I was really blown away by the Echo Studio. I wasn’t expecting the sound quality and max volume. This thing is a beast. I got it because my Echo dot was damaged and I traded it in for a 25% discount on the Echo Studio. At $200, I would highly recommend this well built device.
Hey, enjoyed your comparison, it clarified several questions regarding sound comparison of HomePod vs Echo. But I still have one question. I want to use a device to play music from my iTunes playlists and Sirius/XM. Will either or both let me play playlists directly from my iPod music which is mostly from CD’s ripped to playlists not purchased from Apple.
Can these be used as rear speakers in a Dolby Atmos setup? For example if you have a Dolby Atmos Spundbar and sub. Can these then be added as rear surround speakers for Atmos?

Good video! I am trying to take this decision just now. Got a home pod mini stereo set up right now and i planned to simply upgrade to the full size home pods but I also like loudness and bass so the studio seems to have an advantage. I've got an iphone but also a google pixel and with homepods im limited to use only one of my phones with it. Dang this is a tough one
Think something to seriously consider is the fact that the homepod is at least £80 more expensive. I want to like the homepod more being an iPhone user but the studio is just a lot more compatible with music services etc
Want to try the HomePod with having an Apple based ecosystem but don’t like the restrictions that Apple insist on. Generally I use Spotify or Amazon music and these services connect any speaker with any device I’ve thrown at them. Had the studio for couple of years now and personally think it sounds amazing and with the latest update even better. If the HomePod was just a bit more versatile I’d try it.
I have Echo gen 1 (2014), I have just got the HomePod2 (2023) and it sounds okey, but I am going to send it back… Siri is having hard time in comparison to old good Alexa…
@@loveistheanswer5924 I think that the Echo Studio is a much better value. I also like more Alexa than Siri. I ended up getting two HomePods eventually but spent a lot of time hacking spotify to work over AirPlay2 (to avoid the lag) using some mini servers at home but this is another story.
I was thinking of two echo studios as computer monitors but not sure if they could be hard wired as a stereo pair. Don’t want to use Bluetooth for that. Would be nice to have Alexa built in and streaming services built in. Do t know if using the AUX in with a pair set as a stereo pair would work.
Did you wind up using a pair for your computer? I connected a speaker to my computer via Bluetooth and there’s a slight delay in latency. I gun would go off in a game and a split second later the sound of the shot. Very annoying.
I replaced my computer speakers with an Echo Studio. I placed it in the corner of the room and my jaw drops at the amount of bass output. One thing I don't really like is the treble isn't as pronounced as my bookshelf speakers. Overall I'm happy.
I have both and recently got a studio. The studio is vastly superior. I plugged a record player into it and it sounds amazing. Really may sell the HomePod.

Great video. The Echo is so nosy of a speaker, that’s also constantly making sales pitches, I stopped using it. I’ve had one since it’s limited roll-out stage. We were initially very naive about all of its privacy violations. Amazon even stopped allowing a simple Bluetooth connection and only connected after gaining total network access. The Echo is not and has never been a “smart speaker”, it’s always been spyware with some smart features.
Hey this isn’t true. It has Bluetooth so you can connect to any device with Bluetooth for audio input. Also, there is a mute mic button that physically disabled the mic.
@@Sdot-od8jf that’s bs. I have to set my Echo to search AND my router! “Open the WiFi settings on your phone and select the network that begins with "Amazon". It may take a moment to appear. Stay connected to the selected "Amazon" network even if it doesn't have internet access.” Once I return to the Alexa app it requires I GIVE MY WI-Fi PASSWORD! Which Amazon stores forever btw. @@doctorjames4245 I know for a fact they don’t. “Keychain” you needed to enable to store WiFi passwords, I’m not sure if it’s still called that. HomePods are just a Bluetooth connection, no need to replace your home network name.

I have both the speakers. And have used them quite extensively. In terms of ease of use. That goes to the homepod. But in terms of sound definition in quality the studio absolutely destroys it. Especially when you have it paired with an echo sub. I have my studio paired in a home theater format with an echo sub in some content my jaw hits the floor. The echo studio is especially good at Dolby Atmos content. The echo studio just creates a much better soundstage in my opinion.

Siri will at least respond that the device doesn’t exist. Just getting into the Amazon system and am quite frustrated about this. How do I know that the device I want to turn on is on without physically looking at the device when Alexa says “ok” to anything.
Sounds like you have something set up incorrectly. Alexa always says to me “Sorry, I didn’t find a device named [nonexistent device]” when I ask her to turn something on that I don’t have set up.
I took my homepod 2 back to Apple after 24h. Why? Simple - Forced keychain & forced two factor security. I have many apple devices, ipod, ipad, iphone, airpods and love them all. I noticed the first unnecessary and invasive “obligation” as soon as I turned the Homepod on when a message appeared on my screen “two factor security is obligatory” - I refused. The homepod also requires the “Home” app and that app requires you turn on icloud keychain. If you don’t a full screen block message states “turn on keychain to continue” (Apples stealthy data logging, sensitive history and password hoarding software). Super invasive and unacceptable for a speaker. This is a wireless home speaker Apple, quit the control trip or you’ll lose users/buyers like you did with me. If I am “forced” to adopt your ludicrous attempts of securitization on another device then that will go to and be replaced by android. Keep doing it and I will rid myself of each apple device you do it on.

You can still use the homepod as a 2.1 channel setup with AirPort Express 2. You can connect any subwoofer to it
The AirPort has been discontinued, so I can’t officially recommend that setup. Also, I believe this would ruin the Dolby Atmos setup.
