Nice to see Microsoft taking such a pro-consumer move, after previous Surfaces being some of the hardest machines to repair.

Most buyers aren’t going to open up the device or upgrade it or repair it, it’s doesn’t effect most users even if it was hard to repair.

What’s the point of a repair video if they don’t even sell spare parts and they charge you 500 for changing battery?

@@deloller2452 i think you can just replace thermal compound and clean it inside

good job microsoft, It would be even nicer to correctly indicate how to disassemble the device, especially proprietary connectors such as the Surface connector(Surflink): 5:32

As a person who owned a Surface Pro 1 which scored a 1/10 repairability score on ifixit I am glad to see this video and how far we’ve come.

I appreciate the transparency with all the new products guys! Though I personally would love to see the adhesive to be removed entirely in the next model, replacing it with a few screws and magnets to get the display off. Maybe something similar to the surface laptop

Kudos Microsoft. An official DIY repair video when the industry has moved away from self repair.

I think this year is the year I'll finally get myself a Surface Pro, now that I know it won't be game over if a part breaks. So glad to see the design moving in this direction!

I think it's very cool that you can change the ssd on surface pro devices. I mean it's a tablet. Good job microsoft!
Edit: Didn't think it looks like a laptop inside... Cool!

It would be awesome if the screws were color/shape coded. As someone, who has a dying surface book 2 battery, I would more than welcome the availability of replacement batteries, possibly tools/guide on disassembly. Also: feet! I doubt any surface book 1 or 2 has any feet by this point.

Are we able to purchase replacement screens from Microsoft? I've looked all over and can only find replacement displays from questionable third parties. If we can't, this is a nice gesture but falls flat.

Really good Video, but I still have Surface Pro 7+ with bad repairabillity, but anyway it´s a good device. Maybe I will upgrade to Surface Pro 11 or 12.
Edit: Keep going this way! It would be great, if I can put the Mainboard with CPU and RAM from Surface Pro 10 into the Case from Surface Pro 9. So I dont need to buy the Case, screen...

    • @xNaceryx

Don't want to sound too bitchy but literally you only need to lift the screen (there's no need of debonding tool either, a plastic guitar pickwould actually do the job just fine) and the battery it's just held by few screws wich is rare by today standards as every tablet in the market uses doublesided tape that damages the battery once removed.
This is by far one of the easiest repair jobs I've seen in this form factor.

I wish microsoft surface pro 10 or pro 9+, will add extra thunderbolt, so it becomes 3 thunderbolt. So without the headphone jack, it's not a problem.

    So easy, love the repairability

  • @andyvan5692
    @andyvan5692 ปีที่แล้ว

good start, but for some of the parts, lose the adheisive and add more screws, as this is more sustainable, as to use tape/adheisive you do need to clean parts of residue, which involves alcohol, and WHY put the battery in first?, dumb, as for safety you want it out FIRST, so you are SHURE the power is OFF, so make it removable, like an Li-on camera battery, have it slide out.

"dear" microsoft why we(users!) can NOT do ourselves:
    change dislpay in Surface Pro?
    why screen it is GLUED?
why you can't use small bolts for screen?
why we can NOT add more RAM by SO DIMM modules ourselves?
or you - Microsoft think that instead of 8GB RAM to have 32GB RAM USERS MUST PAY +1700$?
do you Microsoft think it's "FAIR"?
I have many more complaints, but these are the main ones. but YOU Microsoft "CLAIM" that you have increased the possibility of repair! And at the same time, in order to get inside Surface Pro - we need to tear the GLUED SCREEN!!!
Don't you think it's stupid - glue the screen?
Or in your reality there are no exists small bolts?
    like - to up this

Another reason to not buy this. Microsoft needs to get out of the laptop business. They do a horrible job.
