    Really this series is underappreciated, this is probably the best piece of fiction.

    This what remote war means. A war is going on but removed from most of the population so basically only soldiers and people in the conflict zone suffer it directly. This kind of war can go on for decades.

    • @otkanime5232
      @otkanime5232  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      With the paradox of it being a kind of abstract concept for most of the population while simultaneously being perhaps the most visceral experience possible on the part of the troops.

      @@otkanime5232 Hi there I am Central American here we suffered from remote warfare from the 60s to 80s when the USSR and the US duke out their "cold" war it was pretty hot in El Salvador and Nicaragua with lots of back stabbing in Honduras and Guatemala. While relatives in the US barely noticed what was happening.
      Although Vietnam for the US is a better example since they never sent that many soldiers to C.A.

    • @otkanime5232
      @otkanime5232  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, thank you for sharing man. I’ve only ever studied what happened in Central America but it’s an entirely different experience to hear about it from the mouth of someone whose family directly experienced it. I’m Puerto Rican and we’re ignored and dismissed by the US too, though in admittedly different ways that haven’t been so war-driven. Anyways, thank you for your thoughtful comments on our video.

    This movie hooked me and made me watch the whole show. Story, music, spase, Bolero, CHARACTERS! Everything feels perfect! Thank you for the video, now I'm going to watch everything you have about LoGH.

    Was a great watch. I definitely liked the analysis of the multifaceted meaning that silence can embody. I always feel that some people think that dynamics in movies/shows are always "let's get louder! More action scenes and blow it through the roof!" but often times the most impactful changes are when things go from fortissimo to pianissimo. There are beautiful changes in tone that can only be made with silence. Akin to a virtuoso playing a song with immaculate pausing and phrasing. Silence adds depth. It adds meaning while also being empty. Beautiful.

      Bass: Thank you for the feedback!
      Everything you mentioned added to that operatic nature I talked about in the video. Even though I knew it was all animated and drawn it really gave me the same feelings of seeing live actors on the stage. In fact I think it would translate extremely well if someone took this plot and made it a full on play.

      Really late reply, but LOGH is one of the strangest book to adaptations to judge imo because the OVA mirrors the books so closely. At least if you're reading the original untranslated versions. It's one of the most faithful adaptations I've ever seen. The OVA straight up lifts entire scenes and conversations from the books word for word. The speech Trunicht gives at the beginning of the show is a prominent example but it's all over.

    Not gonna lie, this is my Favorite anime. It was Steins;Gate but after the first 26 episodes this cemented itself in that position. At one point I had to limit myself to two episodes a day so I didn't get through it too fast.

    Great video! It's interesting how you interpret Bolero, thinking of it as silent and calm until realizing at the end that it has been steadily rising in volume, intensity and complexity. I'm sure many viewers feel the same way if they haven't heard bolero before or listened to a lot of classical music. For me who already knew how bolero goes even the very first calm and quiet measure of the music created loads of tension in my first viewing, since I knew how the piece ends. It still does and it's one of the most brilliant uses of already existing music used in film I can think of. It's also worth noting that in the days Bolero was written people thought Ravel a bit crazy for making such a strange composition. It just repeats the same melody over and over, adding instruments and intensity linearly with a steady rhythmic beat, in its contemporary setting it was almost insane. In some ways for its time, it was "noise", I think Ravel didn't even call it music but more of an experiment iirc, which is kinda funny to note given your own view.

    Akira was amazing for it's time and comparing it to Logh animation seems just weird. This is a movie that also goes with another movie and 110 episodes. Also the fact that it is so political and such might have made funding harder to get.

    Conflicts going on for so long are not common, but they happen, England and France went at it for 100 odd years. The religious Crusades between Christianity and Islam also lasted over 150 years over the Middle east and Jerusalem. The 30 years' war between protestants and Catholics in Eirope as well.

    Would you consider documenting your experience with series as you progress through? The OVA is 110 episodes, but it is separated into four seasons, so you can finish a season, take a break and go back if you prefer. I couldn't stop watching though once I started XDDD I had to stop myself from binging because it PAYS to slowly chew the long dialogues about political philosophy.

    Says you don't like mundane and slow things... shows a clip of Korra. One of these things is not like the other, one of these things is a horrible series that not only doesn't hold a candle compared to the OG series, but is actually a vile piece of garbage totally anathema to the OG series. Seriously! Watch the Avatar Wan episodes and just how they totally and completely butcher the carefully crafted world building and lore of the OG Last Airbender... even more than the show already did before that point.
