The fact that the both of you encountered hardships in your internships definitely speaks volumes to how this field is not ready for us black social workers. I was in tears onto occasions during my internship and several of my MSW classmates had to change their internships because the entities that they were placed with were not accepting of them so they put in extra time and effort to make their experiences miserable. So sad🙄 but we will stay in the fight so that our people can have Advocates that genuinely care about them.
I can tell you about an interview I had an interview at a school and ask the principal about the diversity in support staff unit they didn’t have any diverse support staff. As the panel went around the principal shoved off his hand as if he was disinterested they don’t want to see people of color especially BLACK folks
@@MillennialSocialWorker I am sorry also, I endured the same types of experiences. The internship lacked supervision and did not provide Master level training to prepare me.
Right now I am in a rock and a hard place. I am in a master's program, and I have to choose between where I want to do my internship at hospital or a School. And I want to do both fields!!!!! But I love your videos.
Well I am a woman of a particular age and just entered the social work field officially this year 2022. I have the LGSW and the LMSW. I want to stay in line with medical social work..both of my internships were in a medical field..so thats a good start... I am looking for employment know...for about a month but no success as off yet...I am only going to get about 20 years in this field so I need to work in settings that build my skills quickly so I can move up on my salary as quickly as possible if that makes any sense.. I am a new subbie to your channel..if you have any tips you can provide that would be greatly appreciated..Thanks❤
Good Evening! I love this video! I start my MSW program in the Fall and I am super excited. Thank you for taking the time to provide future social workers with useful information. I only have 5 years of management experience in the restaurant industry and 2 years in an urgent care setting. Do you have any recommendations for jobs to look into while pursuing my MSW? I want to ensure when I graduate I have social work experience on my resume. Have a wonderful night!.
Congratulations and thank you for your kind words. Regarding jobs, it will be based on what field of social work you are interested in. Keep in mind that during your MSW program, you will complete field placement/internship where you will gain experience you can put on your resume.

Try Direct Care position or working as a social worker assistant.
