I’m glad Sherri has that experience because the cashier’s that ring me up don’t want to talk at all. And as someone who suffers with social anxiety, I’m totally cool with a hi and bye and “have a good day”. I hate small talk. I’m not a GenZer but I can see why some of them don’t want to talk. 🤣

I hate checkout, I enjoy talking to the cashiers. These businesses are trying to make jobs redundant, shame on them.

I’m Gen X, and LOVE the self checkouts. Lol! I can get along my way and not have to have small talk. Tho, I don’t want to take away anyone’s job, I’m just not the chatty one when shopping.

I love self checkout bc it’s faster. Plus not everyone cares for small talk. If i have a cart full of groceries i will go to a cashier and I actually like the small talk sometimes.
As for going to the mall and paying for parking yeah i wish there was someone working there to help out when the machines act up.
Small talk is one thing. The worst are the people who chatter away hand waste other peoples' time. What's most aggravating is that these people are oblivious to the people around them or if they are, don't care one iota about the sensibilities other people. I know this is quite a negative statement but in my experience, this is scenario is more common than it should be.
100%!!! I say that all the time. These Gen Zers are so detached. When you talk to them they look at you in total terror.
I agree with you 100% and on top of that another important thing it keeps jobs .like you said the toll takers are all automated no jobs and the funny thing is the prices are high and keep going up while they're cutting corners even down to the automated phone services people went with them because they were free of charge and if you talk to someone they punish you buy charging you now they're charging you for the automated service I'm getting rid of jobs

Thank you, because I can’t stand the self-checkout. Plus, I’m not getting paid to check out my food so why should I do all the work. I pay enough by going to that store in the first place. Then to top it off, I always seem to have a problem and need help. Again, what’s the point of doing it myself. I’m yelling and punching the zero just like Sherri is saying. I love talking to people, and being able to (just maybe) make that person’s day. I’ve worked customer service, and I always love to be nice to them and ask how their day is going and make them laugh.

That happened to me when I had to call about my cable I kept getting the machine.I told them if you don’t give me a live person you can cancel my cable they gave me a live so fast.
Exactly, that's how I got a live person on the phone.
I'm gen x, I could use either - or, whatever is going to get me out the door the fastest. But having to call customer service is torture for me. I hate to be that one, but when I call customer service and I hear a foreign voice, my heart sinks. Although, I have to say that Chime's foreign service reps do a pretty good job.
Side note: Norman Baker loss is our gain. 😆

I was at Taco Bell and an older gentleman said " I'll wait as long as it takes for a human I don't know how to use the kiosk and I only have cash" the manager said " We don't keep cash and you need to get with the times its 2024" Wow Wow and Wow.
Yeah, after the pandemic a lot of places don't take cash anymore...smdh...
I prefer paying cash so go to a regular check out.I work as a cashier but use the belted tills I get to speak to customers.
I’m Gen X and I am fine without all the human interaction. Some people out here in these “human interaction” jobs act like customers owe them their paychecks when the job does. Not to mention it seems like proper social etiquette has gone in the toilet where people won’t say hello, please or thank you.

That’s so true Sherri I’m Italian and when I was growing up when we would visit our relatives it was young and old all conversing with one another .we knew how to interact .I call this new gen robot nation one word answers and zombie eyes darting back and forth .

I have gone to Walmart (Jacksonville Florida) and they didn't have any one on the register. All were self checkout 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️

I for one, hate, going through the line when there is a cashier. Where I live some of them have the nerve to thicckk. A lot of times chec You always have to call someone anyway. The entitlement of some of the customers will stand right behind you during the self checkout. And tap you if they think there's an open check out. I do love to hear a real person on the phone..

I go through self check out all of the time because I just want to. There's nothing wrong with that and it has nothing to do with age. I still have conversations when I feel like it and when I don't feel like it then I don't. Stop making everything seem wrong just because you don't do it. Some people just like talking and there are those who want to just get their purchases and leave. I don't see anything wrong with that. To each its own. There are more important things to worry and talk about whether someone chooses to use self check-out or not. Doesn't make them bad people. Stop with the nonsense.

There’s always a person in front of me at the cashier chatting up a storm with the employee. Or there’s always someone who needs additional help with something. I don’t have time for that crap! So I use the check out machines for a speedy exit.

At first I didn't like self checkout. Spending time and money in the store while also working there without getting paid for it lol. Now I've grown to like self checkout most of the time. I do like texting with people I don't really wanna talk to but I'd rather talk to people I enjoy talking to. I only watch TH-cam gave up Facebook going on 2 years ago and so glad I did.
I like talking to other people in the line, that is where I find out about the specials that I might have missed, and they will watch my cart while I go get the special. I NEVER use the automated checkout.

Cashiers be subconsciously doing way too much with their hands, I prefer self checkout. There was an elderly lady at self-checkout at my local grocery store. She confronted someone stealing, they punched her in the nose (breaking it by the way) and ran. When she finally did return to work, she was there for a few weeks before they fired her for stealing.

I like Self Check Out.
Gen Z here I HATE SELF CHECKOUT 😂 I go to either or and I still pack my groceries up. They charge each plastic bag you use at the store, so I bring my own.
Also, the Gen Z’ers I know hate not being able to talk to an actual human when we call support. I pressed 0 and scream Operator, CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE 😂 I hate it

Self checkout speeds up the process. I don’t mind small talk but I do mind waiting on ppl who want every discount, don’t have money, wanna argue about sales, etc.
I’m not an employee and I don’t work for free. On the flip side the cashier was so tired and rude and he was a youngster.
