Holy shit, I have never seen a Let's Play of Democracy in which the player managed to push +60% of the population under the poverty line! Luckily the game currently does not connect the dots between your policies and mass poverty or both the poor and the socialists would be rioting. I honestly don't know what your goal is this series as reducing the National Debt can be done in many ways but one of the worst is just implementing austerity until your country is the poor house of Europe. Even Greece says it feels sorry for your population!
As one of those countreis with unemployment of some population at 50% (I think 20% as a whole), I slightly disagree... The goverment is hiding the number well.

I went with a fully Socialist/Liberal government and managed to essentially eliminate poverty outright. The largest part of my population was in the highest disposable income bracket, and the very poorest person in my country was solidly in middle class.
I'm pretty sure there are balancing issues in this regard as of right now.
@Combine Yeah some of that stuff is definitely overpowered.
Which is weird because the creator calls himself an "environmentalist capitalist", so you'd think capitalism is the thing that's being biased towards.
That being said, this alpha generally needs intense balancing right now, and he knows it. If you want to, you can tell him either on twitter or via the game's forum.

I had a look of complete disgust when you lowered NHS spending
One of the best ways I found of playing the "politics" game is to dramatically increase policing efforts to eliminate unecessary spending from Organized Crime, Crime, Violent Crime, etc. as well as increase spending in health related policies and commuting practices. This way your overall GDP will increase to the point where it eclipses your spending. This comes with the added bonus of having more protection against extremists groups from your policing policies. Another way you can go about it is to increase taxes to almost max in the first 2 years, removing any debt and giving you a big cushion for the future, then you implement the policies I suggested previously without worry of going into debt. Later on you can reduce the raxes and remove the negative opinion modifiers that comes with increased taxes. Have fun playing the game man!

In one run I actually ended up outright cancelling pensions. Had UBI and Social Care maxed though.
@@Kram1032 my trick to run an effective country is first enacting Flat Income Tax and then repealing (or turn to 0%) the Income Tax and start overturning policies that increase socialism and implementing others that increase GDP and capitalists. Then, to acount for the fact that you have less tax money, you increase police force but repeal others that diminishes liberalism. The best ways to play are conservative/religious/patriot/socialist or liberal/patriot/capitalist. Later on you will have to choose between motorists amd environmentalists/commuters/parents(because of asphma epidemic). I usually choose environmentalists because it increases the environment so much that GDP stops being q factor and the health of your citizens increases drastically, even without state healthcare
@@nunosilva187 I went liberal all the way, more or less organically combining socialist and capitalist policies on top and got to all sorts of bonuses and a mild surplus. My poorest person is solidly in middle class and everybody loves me.
GDP Health and Education are maxed, Poverty, Homelessness, and Crime do not exist. The only red thing I have (and don't know any way to get rid of) is the Rare Earth Crisis. I also have Egalitarian Society, Private Space Program, High Productivity, and Technological Advantage. Environment is maxed too.
The only voting blocks I didn't get 100% for are Motorists, Religious people, and Poor people. Because they do not exist. Zero people belong to those groups.
I'm pretty sure any playstyle can make this possible though.
@@Kram1032 for the Rate Earth Mining Crisis there is a Rare Earth Mining policy and I think Climate Addaptation Fund reduces it as well as Mars Mission. I think international trade reduces it as well so I always go for max foreign aid because it also reduces the amount of times and severity of global market recessions

I would watch your content much more gladly if you had some sort of indicator for chronological order within series. Much as I like this game and enjoy your work with your colleagues in the Wholesomeverse, the time taken to find which episode to start this series at makes it easy to give the other series a pass for now.
I always reshuffle cabinet on turn one. You would always need to as its too random. Might as well do it at the start to get the team happier and more experienced.

You can't increase income tax in brackets? So high earnes has % income tax while low earners has another %. Of course I want a high income tax on low earners to create incentive to be rich
You can implement flat income tax, which is basically just everyone pays a percent of their income without caring about how high that income is, and abolish the progressive tax IIRC, or was that democracy 3?
Something new in D4: Don't underestimate the usefulness of Quantitative Easing. Its cheap, doesn't require a lot of political capital, and stimulates GDP quite a lot. For a quick fix to help the blow during a low part of the economic cycle. It causes a slight amount of inflation, but if you are smart about it, it shouldn't be much at all.
Also, don't forget about Public Tax Returns. If there is any policy thats OP, that could be considered one.

When reshuffling a cabinet, it is generally a bad idea to select ministers who are initially loyal over those who sympathize with loyal voter groups since the latter will become more loyal over time and remain loyal as long as you don't realign yourself with new voter groups.

Is there no inflation measure or central bank function? Total government spending as percent of GDP should be able to be monitored too.
There is inflation, but it is only mentioned sometimes, i.e. when you are dealing with some economic policies, like "quantitative easing".

Basically because it's not on steam yet, it'll be on steam in like 2 weeks, at which point the workshop will be the source of mods (I don't believe there are any now) no doubt they'll be loads when it launches!

The definition of a barebones "video game". Playing this with actual paper sheets would have been the better solution.

If you think about it your opposition party is moatly conservative, religious voters, them having a woman as their candidate is a huge win for liberals and because you're the party candidate they are pleased with your policies
Instead of lower government spending, you should invest into education and encourage start ups, increasing government revenue on the long run. You don't run a government like a company and cut spending in times of global crisis. Ideally the government has to act opposite to the economic cycle. Neo liberal policies is what you do and this is the reason every country is in a similar mess right now.

The problem with investing only in the long run is that the changes wont come into play before you get ousted. The game is called Democracy, fixing the country is second place to winning the election. Otherwise the other guys just wont continue your policies and you achieved nothing.
@@bobsickle2336 exactly. It's a balance. Sometimes you even "fix" the country but they outvote you anyways. That is the beauty of the game, although I wanted them to let us play for more time than the actual re-election term, in order for us to see what happens in the long run.

Honestly, bud you're real close. I'm glad I'm able to provide a challenge. I am Scottish/born in scotland, but was somewhat uniquely exposed to a variety of accents (including many american/Canadian accents) at a young age through schooling. I like to say I have a messy "international" accent, hope that answers the question!

It looks disappointing tbh. It just seems like they overhauled the UI and that's it.
For an Alpha build it's looking pretty good so far imo and is still in development.

The original plan *was* to just collect up all of the content from the Democracy 3 DLCs and D3: Africa, fix up some technical issues (I recall Unicode support being a big deal to the developer since they needed that in order to make a Chinese or Russian translation), and update the most outdated political issues. They ended up doing that and then also making a bunch of changes, including a UI rework. I'm pretty definitely going to grab the game soon, once the worst pre-alpha bugs have been fixed (though there don't really seem to have been many in the first place, based on dev diaries).

The main problem with Great Britain is people like you. Brexit is a last chance to put GB back on track. When the extreme left wing parties of Labour, Lib Dums or the Nationalist SNP take over then it is game over.
I hate how fgb makes conservatives hate you. Conservatives would support this; the ones who would hate you is ethnic minorities specifically muslim males(they have no gender equality in muslim countries barely gets better in western countries where judges let them get away with more. Because Minority.). And before you call me racist look up the muslim female rights advocate(I refuse to call her a feminist because she really isn't (atleast modern feminist)) that is fighting for the same right women fought for in those same countries decades prior.

In my country atleast conservatives would approve, because despite 'popular' belief(democrats) conservatives in my country have mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters that they care about. In my country a female genital mutilation ban(if not already present or falling under another law) would get anonymous support.
