    My man, you've outdone yourself on this one! The information given is spot on as usual, but the video production and editing is in my opinion your best yet. Well do e Papa!!! 💜

    I've watched a lot of shoot outs and downloaded files to compare and I'd say the WA-87 does sound similar to the older model U87. It doesn't sound so close to the new U87Ai because the high frequencies on the U87Ai are much more present. When comparing the U87Ai and a WA-87 together on a female vocal I actually preferred the WA-87. The U87Ai has this annoying frequency that I really just can't stand.

    Great review I really like this and got my interest on this mic, also on 2:17 Yeah had that feeling but even though it doesn't sound the same I can say it is still a nice mic and seem like a great upgrade, I might get one in the future on my next upgrade until then sticking with my at4040.

      Hey man you ever use one yet? I also have a 4040 and well I used a ton of different 4040s noticed they all sound so different, some are exciting some are boring but they don’t have great mids! Which is a bummer lol I was thinking maybe this wa87 might have some mids to it

    Comparing cost is no argument... look at where the microphones are made

  • @enriquekahn9405
    @enriquekahn9405 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know it's dumb to compare this to a "real" U87 but I can't help myself... it has 87 in the name. Blame the WA marketing team.
    So my first thought is: It doesn't sound like a U87. But my second thought is, it does sound pretty nice. But my third thought is, in a world where my King Bee cost $100 and you can get a new CAD e100s for $200 if you just wait for a sale, is this mic worth the $600?
    I believe a $600 mic can be a bargain if it's just right for someone but... you'd kind of have to see for yourself if it matches your voice perfectly. That said, I think it was very pleasant on your voice, although I was not especially fond of the prox effect. Keyboard test on this kind of mic is kind of ridiculous but I did talk to a guy who says he's buying a TLM-103 for game streaming so who the hell knows. I -really- want to like this, but, again, need to test it myself before dropping this kind of money on a mic.
    Just a few more subs and you'll break 6k, woooo!

    • @AudioHotline
      @AudioHotline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait, first question...where are you buying the CAD E100s? It is $500 consistently everywhere and that is what I paid for mine. The CAD E100s is actually one of the mics I had in mind and pulled up recordings of when I was listening back to this mic to decide how much I liked it, because I do love the CAD. I do like the versatility of the WA87 and I do think the 3 polar patterns are a big bonus on this mic... especially for people that plan on using that a lot. I actually feel like this would fit a decent amount of voices, considering the frequency response is pretty modest. I agree though, not every mic is perfect for everyone, and if multiple polar patterns isn’t right for you, you may be able to find a cardioid mic in this price category that is better sounding.

      @@AudioHotline B&H had the e100s on sale for $200 in early April. I only found out about it a couple days after it was over but I know a couple of guys on the Podcastage Discord who did get one.
      I don't doubt this mic would sound at least OK on my voice, and I really like this mic and it's on my short list of mics I wanna test, but my point is more that for that kind of money it had better sound REALLY good on me. Budget mics have gotten really dang good lately.

      @@enriquekahn9405 trust me TH-cam videos don’t give you exactly what it will sound like when you record... this mic cuts through anything, it’s on a pro level for sure and takes eq nicely, I want to try to new r2 version though

    You know you can’t return a mic if you fart at it.
    It sounds sibilant but did sound better than the U47jr FET I bought.

    • @AudioHotline
      @AudioHotline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait? Really? That’s a rule?!? So dumb!
      I do think it accents where my personal voice has sibilance, but I have heard a lot of other recordings of this, and I notice that doesn’t come through as much for them.
      Also.... Toward the beginning of this video my mouth was SOOO dry, so I put a piece of gum in my mouth. I noticed that my sibilance is worse at the beginning than during the testing and review sections (I took it out at that point). I think that it made me talk a little different than usual and almost made me sound a little more sibilant.... I don’t know though, maybe it is just in my head.

    • @gutpunchnews4000
      @gutpunchnews4000 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Audio Hotline of course the gum was in your head or at least your mouth. I notice when my mouth is dry, my ess seems to whistle a touch. For me, if I back off the mic an inch, it stops. Plus, you live in the mountains like I do, and altitude changes the mics performance on a condenser.
      You’re new catch phrase,,, you don’t shut right. I crapped myself laughing. 💩

      @@gutpunchnews4000 Yeah that is true! Condenser microphones, just too damn sensitive for me! My new motto: DYNAMIC MICS FOR LIFE!... EXCEPT ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS WHEN I AM RECORDING SINGING VOCALS OR VOICEOVER AND THE VOCALIST DOESN'T SOUND GOOD ON A DYNAMIC MIC... YEAH!
      It's a pretty catchy motto...

    Nothing similar to a real U87, just sounds as cheap as other cheaper U87 styled mics.

    • @AudioHotline
      @AudioHotline  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Leo_Vulkan I explained why this mindset is wrong in the video. Yes, it has 87 in the name, which I think is stupid... but it’s 17% of the cost of a U87... but if you only think of it as a $600 mic, and not a mic that can magically sound 83% more expensive, it actually performs really well.

    • @Leo_Vulkan
      @Leo_Vulkan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AudioHotline Check the market for U87, take a batch, it could be cool. 3U Audio, Tech Zone, Advanced Audio, Microphone parts ... according to my tests the only slightly similars are the ones from 3U Audio and the are around 300-350$.
