In order to advance Black entrepreneurship we have to stop saturating the same markets and diversify our repertoires. Everyone can’t sell shea butter and hair extensions. I am elated about this discussion.
In NYC we had all kinds of businesses but gentrification hit the city and all the big corporations ate the small companies. Rent skyrocketed and all these businesses where replaced with white coffee shops and cafe's It's not about hair and shea butter. It's about capital which we don't have access to.
Actually there is so much money in that Chinese & Asians in general have 3 -4 beauty salons in a 10 block radius they just have a pool of people that come together and give each other a 100k each to make a business
They didn't touch on the fact that being an entrepreneur isn't acceptable in black culture for the most part. We think if you don't work for someone else you don't have a "real job". We only respect black entrepreneurs once they are megaballin or appear to be megaballin. There are some entrepreneurs that make 6 figure incomes, while they aren't "rich", they probably make more than your average employee. We need to touch on that. I'm a tech entrepreneur and I'm sick of my family not taking what I do serious when there are millions being invested in people like me in other cultures.

All States should have a Department of Economic and Community Development. From there you should be able to get info on help with a small business. Utilize your states .gov website and take a look.

Small Business Development Center @ Kean University....garbage. Went to my mayor at the time in a nj town...nothing. State rep for the 22nd Legislative District at the time did nothing.
