- In this video, I talk about my life vest and what I carry in it. I have a Stohlquest Fisherman life vest . It has held up very well and is a well built life vest. Make sure you get a quality life vest and that it fits you properly.
Here is the list of My Gear:

PFD's only work if you wear them. Sadly during search and rescue operations with the father/son kayak related drownings 2 yrs ago in Ocean Springs the pfd's were still strapped to the kayaks when they were found washed up in the marsh. Comfortable pfd's are worn pfd's. Great video, Jack!
I would highly recommend a dive/safety knife with a blunt tip secured to the front of your PFD or shoulder strap. Make it accessible with either hand. Only ever use it if you get dumped and get tangled. The blunt tip keeps from stabbing yourself or your clothing if you are wearing a drysuit or waders.
Great PFD I have the same one and love it
i have the same in orange. i just keep whistle and knife in it. I recently switched to a gas vest.. but still carry the original inside the kayak just in case ..
I have the same vest and the same truck with the same bed cover lol
Awesome! Great setup lol!
great advice we should all wear them,no excetions..Jut a thought on your carrying a whistle annd mirror maybe a knife as well just in case you get hung up on something..Just a thought..Oviedo Fl..fan.....
What are your thoughts on auto inflatable vests? I use one on small waters and a standard vest on bigger water.
If that will allow you to wear it, then I am all for them. Buy rearming kits at the same time, though. In the past the kits have become obsolete and hard to find a couple of years later.
In VLOG #258 his friends inflatable vest that didn't work. Id say hes not a fan.
i want a used hobie to go offshore any suggestions on what type and where to get one
how many videos you have about your lifewest? xD
*life vest ? That would be 3 videos. lol
I need to get a small mirror. Need to steal one from the wife.
PookieMan80 an old cd will work as a signal mirror, too.
I don't want to be "that guy", but I like you, so respectfully dude, your PFD shouldn't be all tackle box. Don't you have a milk crate or something for that? I used to put just what tackle I would want for a trip all in one small tupperware box... saves a lot of weight and tangles... Lol...Your PFD should be your SHTF bail out bag. What if you got separated from your yak somehow? Y'all go pretty far offshore, don't you? Keep the bullet weights and curly tails in the yak where you'll be happily fishing, but put things like food, water, shelter, fire making, first aid, communications/flares, knife, lines, space blanket, wal mart 5x7 $10 tarp, things you might need in your PFD if you are not happily fishing. Say, if a storm came up, dumped you (somehow, in a broach, I don't know how you capsize a SOT), swept your yak away in the wind and washed you up on Perdido Key where your truck might as well be on Mars? WTF then? You gonna eat curly tails and get warm with bullet weights or hydrate with hooks? The mirror and whistle are good to go, but fulfill the bare minimum in comms. But then again, you know where you fish, and what you do and who's out there. A SOT might not get away from you in wind and waves like a sea kayak would, I don't know. Above is what sea kayakers do, but also, we often paddle in BFE. Nice PFD though, I like the big front pockets and mesh lower back and Stohlquist makes quality kit. Really man, I'm not trying to be that "I know better than you" guy, cause I surely am a dumb bass my own self, just sharing a different perspective, perhaps badly, and perhaps worth what it cost, which was nothing. Sticking my neck out on the inner webs with an opinion, hope I don't get flamed. Anyhow. Carry on. Peace, out. : )
