I used a windsheild wiper motor. A homemade petal for forward and reverce makes it fun to work. Thanks as always for an educational video. Gods blessings.
After over fifty three years as a Plater welder and most of that as a coded welder, I have to ask: Where the hell have these people learned to weld? Idea's are brilliant but the welding technique leaves me in shock!!
I see guys on TH-cam weld with sandals, no gloves or wrong type of gloves, in shorts, and say, gee! They must have tuff skin or are impervious to burns.
I think when u shared the secret of how to make groves or Bend than one must use their brain rather than asking for dimensions, thanks for sharing the trick or idea.❤️❤️❤️❤️ God bless
Okay, the metalwork was great, but first of all, to get any strength to thick metal you need to run continuous bead and crank up the welder. You have almost zero penetration, so the welds are prone to cracking. Second of all, why add any gears, when you can't use them? You should have welded the bearings stuck and added crank to the other side. So much unleashed potential in this project
I initially thought you were hating on this guy but it’s hard to argue with your observations and suggestions. You’re right about his welds. A crank would make it less likely to accidentally twist the metal while pushing it through the bearings. It would definitely make the process easier while adding a level of control. Nonetheless, I’m very impressed with his build. Thanks for sharing!
Perhaps those are for an eventual planned upgrade, though it has to be said that they either need to be keyed or shrink fit on the shafts to actually be feasible. That being said, I do need (and will probably make) this thing for clamp weld patch making for automotive sheet metal bodywork, and it is better than nothing, but of course it can and will be done better.
Thank you for your video. I've wanted a bead roller for some time but can't justify the $3 or 4 hundred dollars for something that will spend most of it's time on a shelf. If the round stock was sized correctly you could add bead roller dies later and buy the louver dies. I think I would add a crank to feed the work though.
I’ve thought about cutting a barbell in half - you find them at the tip or garage sales, good steel that wont bend & has raised part to stop weights from moving.
More popularly known as sheet groove maker, usually used in aluminium sheets (of up to 1mm thickness) for cladding pipelines of extreme temperatures. Great job there kwando. Should've made it a bit more awesome if you added a manual driving mechanism at the end of one of the shafts (where the gears are) for easy feeding in of your sheets instead of pushing them in hard, as well as adding up the U-shaped die (or bearing) aside from that L shaped one you got.
exactly. too hard to push. put a crank on the gear end. but it's not a bad idea, just... not many people have dog gears lying around the house) maybe you don't need them, or half of this tool. just a roller bearing, protruding from the bottom, and a cranked shaft at the top, with a welded bearing on the end. Roller bearing spins as you crank the welded bearing around. less work to build. less weight. no need for gears.
Overall, this is a highly informative and enjoyable video for anyone interested in fabrication. It showcases your talent and expertise while providing valuable insights and inspiration to fellow enthusiasts. You are using bearings for your forms, so why do you need the rods they are mounted on to rotate too....? And what purpose do the gears serve...? Why don't you weld the bearings solid and then put a turn handle on one of the shafts to control your piece rather than push it around manually...? A lot of this project seems pointless...
It's about control of part the idea you have does work if doing repetitive parts but if doing bespoke panels slowness is key ...your way is used for more rolling metal edges both have there own uses but technically do the same job 😂
i don't fully understand this entire build. Since the bearings are doing all the work and turning the cogs would have no effect on the bearings, what exactly does the gears do?
I was wondering what the gears were for. I was assuming that you were using the outer race of the bearings for the bead profile and were going to weld the bearings solid. But I understand now, the gears are counterbalance.
You didn't weld the bearings solid so the crank and gearing does nothing. And you can see the shafts aren't turning at all, you just push the metal around.
The bearings are always going to spin. They are bearings haha. I guess it was future proofed so he could add other wheels one day? I don't know kinda weird
Not bad...I made my own too along with a half dozen different roller dies...as well as a large support plate. it has a 2 foot throat and is made of box tube. Cost me about 150 bucks in materials
@@KwandoTechnic No, not really....I had to buy the 3 inch bar stock to make the dies.....so that is where a very large amount of the money went. 3 inch 1020 bar ain't cheap....if you want to buy new.

I'm sorry but I think you may have misunderstood...the shafts DO turn. The gears are to keep the long shafts level and are to aid in smooth and consistent pressure, while allowing for a large gap to produce larger pieces.
