But what about the feature tha Cdbaby offers to administrate with collaboration of the local Performing Rights Organization almost everywhere?? I am talking about CDBaby PRO distribution releases. Do the others (Distrokid, Soundrop, Tunecore, ) have a similar kind of distribution&royalties collection for authors/composers/producers that are signed to a local Performing Rights Organization? In Italy there is SIAE; in Canada SOCAM; in France: SACEM ; and so on....... Cdbaby recognized the SIAE in italy; the SOCAM in Canada; the ASCAP in U.S.A....Sacem in France, and so on... What about the others distributors?
I would like to see data on artist results between distribution services. It's interesting to hear keeping 85% of publishing royalties being described as a negative when huge bands whose songs we all know have signed over half, most or ALL of their publishing royalties as part of their deal with record companies and they toured off of the albums releases and sold merchandise before eventually signing a better deal. The band Kansas did that for one example. The publisher owned all of their publishing and then kept investing a lot of money into album production and after a few albums they eventually scored huge with Carry On (my wayward son). The publisher made the investment money back and plenty more and the band went on to sign a better deal when the contract expired and they came back with Dust in the Wind and Point of Know Return which were huge hits and they then kept touring on those hits. A Current lineup still exists. Now, obviously, I am not suggesting that anyone reading this sign over 100% of their publishing! What I am pointing out though is that when people or organizations profit from your success, they are more inclined to help you succeed. I am not putting down this video in an way though. It presents some things that should be considered when making these decisions about who to work with and that includes publishing, but it would be interesting to see if there is any trend between artist results when working with different distributors. Do the ones who have more to gain from your success actually bring you more success?
Exactly right. I mean as for me? I'll take 70% or even 50% of something over 100% of nothing any day. So, for me to be convinced that any Publisher would want my songs to succeed. Common sense would tell you there has to be something in it for them than just the upfront money from releasing a song. Yes. CD Baby probably makes a good amount from those upfront costs. But look how much more they would make if even a small percentage of users had hit songs.
It's very good compared, but you need to mention this to those smaller composers/musicians! A hobby composer who doesn't pump out that many songs and is nobody in the music world, the yearly income could be less than the annual fee, so in this case, negative income is generated every year. 69$ one time forever on the other hand can hurt a lot and with that extra commission, but the hobby composer doesn't have to care about it after distributing the music. Another alternative is ONErpm, but I don't think it's that good than CD babe.
Cd baby offers many license like youtube id in one time payment which is not available on distrokid unless you pay additional 9.99 but after you pay for that you still encounter hidden charges made by distrokid
One thing I absolutely HATE about CDbaby is it’s difficult to view total streams for each album! They will give you sales for the whole album but not streams. You have to choose the drop down menu 500 (to show 500 transactions per page) the problem i have is I have an album with 190 pages i have to click every single one and write down how many streams per page! Its a pain 🤦🏽♂️ i wish it was like tunecore where it not only shows you total sales but also total streams so easily! I been with CDbaby for 20 years now you’d think they’d be better! I have 20 albums on cdbaby trying to find out how many streams will be a pain and time consuming trying to figure it out! I did one so far and it took 4 hours to do it! 3,348,587 streams! Now 19 more albums to do 😂 Be better CDbaby 🤦🏽♂️
Here is the deal, if you want to pay 10 dollars for each of your valuable songs to stay in shops forever than go with CD Baby, They will take 9% of your income but you will leave a legacy. Your children, grandchildren and so on will be able to hear your music. And you won’t have to leave a $20 dollar chain for you family. If you want to pay the $20 for unlimited songs and no income is taken (which is good,) go with DistroKid but you will not leave a legacy and every song and everything you did in life was just for the money. So I personally take CDBaby. (You can also pay extra 20 dollars I think on DistroKid to leave your song forever) (Who Does That)
I’ve heard so many horror stories about Distrokid so I won’t even touch them. zero complaints about CD Baby. After watching this video, I guess I need to look into Tunecore.
Here's your first complaint about CD baby. I submitted my song to CD Baby for distro. It restricted me from using the name that I wanted unless I could prove substantial social media presence, when I've fulfilled the requirement, it hasn't responded for 3 weeks. I submitted my song to Distrokid, submission was immediate.
You overlooked legacy. If you'd like you songs on streaming services ongoingly, even if you die, CDBaby seems the choice. If you stop paying your annual fees your music disappears. Seem like a pretty huge perk to overlook?
It's simple. As a massage therapist, I pay Soothe and Zeel like 35% of what they charge the client, but they take care of so much crap that I don't feel like doing, that it's worth it. Same for music. I'd rather focus on the elements of the music creation rather than how much money I can squeeze out of it.
He doesn’t mention that you pay distrokid $20 to upload your music only. They don’t give the extras that any other company gives unless you pay more. They’re no help with playlisting or post release. They don’t do sync licensing at all. If you pay for all of the “extras” on distrokid it’s almost $80 a year for a single when you could just pay $5 to cd baby and get the things distrokid calls “extra” also, you can’t pick a release date on the $20 distrokid plan. Distrokid is more expensive unless you’re getting the absolute basics or unless you generate hundreds of thousands of streams.
distrokid fucking sucks lol theyre withholding 30% of my royalties ($600) and i have no way to file a tax return via e-filing etc. for someone in college this is a lot and ive never made a more expensive music decision
CDs sell good when you have a nice Fanbase. CDBaby also has they own licencing "store" for all Songs. The thing is that there are maby Stores you DONT get payed by, we ourself must get active to get this Money. Also please remember that the Baarcode Costs also Money when you need one. To put out Albums also on CD/Vinly it is the best Deal of all few Distributior that offers a physical Distribution. The other once I know of charge you up to 100$ a year for one Album to Distribute on CD. When you only want to distribute Digital go somewhere else like Ditto or so.
I have been albums on CD baby one of them is pro distribution and I just signed to albums on tunecore I have one more album I'll see you baby I think I'm going to sign up for a pro publishing because the album is already there I was wondering if I could accomplish an album on tunecore
Great video. What is the process for pulling your music off of cd baby if you already have your music with them. What is the best way to sell your music personally(website? Other app service). The reason I ask is I would like to just play my music on TH-cam (slide or picture videos with the music played with the video). Then leave a link so they can buy the music directly from me. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge.
Lol ppl are so blinded by the whole unlimited music trick. Wtf uploads dozens of songs every year? Plus last i heard once u decide to cancel your distrokid subscription theyll take ur shit off all DSP. And the legacy option is a scam. Theyll only honor that feature If you die not if u decide to just cancel the sub. This was years ago it maybe not be the case anymore. But im weary of that company
I don't know about having to do a subscription for my music. I like the one and done and I'm out. Cdbaby been my go to and when marketing really kicks in, it won't matter how much they take out in one avenue as long as I'm still making money off my music through other means.
Serious question, with distrokid & tunecore you have to pay the annual fee right….?….so what happens if you die and you are no longer paying the fee? Do they pull your catalog? Cos one thing that def matters to me is having my music permanently online no matter if I’m here or not….

I've been with cdbaby for years I don't think cdbaby is a bad company but what I will say is they take forever to pay you...and to monetize your music on TH-cam....especially when it comes to paying you publishing royalties I didn't see my first check until this year in March n I've been with them for 2 going on 3 years
Personally I've used all of these distributors and only CD Baby actually collects and pays. The others say they do but my royalty statements have been drastically different.
doesnt mention all the other yearly fees per song you have to pay to distrokid for the discovery package or if you want them to add your songs to future DSP's and oh lets not forget legacy. all that adds up and ends up costing you more than cd baby's cut they take.
sorry but i can not afford yearly or monthly payment on music I CREATED and who cares about how many sales you make and how much they take what matters is being heard and also 9% really!? oh so scary you do realize every single sale adds up they may take $9 but you'll be making way way more then that once you get a good following everything adds up no matter how much your album is and yes there is a good amount of people that by CDs and vinyl and i plan on releasing a digital and vinyl exclusive i know that may sound dumb to some people but it's my music and I'm going to release it the way i want to and CD Baby is as self-published and independent as you can get
I’m an independent composer artist. I do epic instrumental type music. I would like to get a music publisher but unsure what would be the right one. I almost went for cd baby what do you recommend for my genre?
CDbaby is more reliable, you can release your music as a Pro title if you want a publisher but you'll have to pay per release so keep that in mind. If you make a lot of music and don't want to pay 10$ per song then just go with something like Distrokid which gives you unlimited releases for like 20$
Hey Ladon...could you do a video on why CD Baby does not pay Tik Tok royalties for streams but only for every new video that uses your music. Coz, I think I have been played...I have over a million Tik Tok collective streams of my songs, yet CD Baby records $0 for all this, it's in the fine print as well. And is there any other distributor that pays for Tik Tok stream royalties? My brain is really struggling here, kindly help.
first I distributed the song on spotify and then uploaded it on youtube.. BUt the video on my youtube channel got copyright claim from the same distributor who published my song on spotify. Can anyone explain?
What about customer support? I've been with CD Baby for a couple of years and have released 10 songs so far. A few months ago I added two-factor verification for my login and ever since I am no longer able to access my artist account. I am neither able to manage my existing songs nor can I release new ones. I've written to CD Baby customer support a couple of times but haven't received any response so far. This is just unacceptable... Does anybody know what I can possibly do in such a situation?
I am sorry to hear that! All in this fucking life has become a lie and scam! It is just to be lucky to get a good service here or there! Good luck to you, greetings!
Hard to believe your sincerity when you have to links in your description to Tunecore and DistroKid with discounts smh. Meaning you have some kind or sponsorship with them and make money every time someone's using those links WOW no wonder you "never use CD Baby".....until they offer you twice as much as those 2 then it'll be "why I had an epiphany and LOVE CD Baby now."
Pay once for CD Baby and it's up forever, no annual fee. Being a long term artist that does not release a massive amount of music, that is valuable. Very slow customer service though.
I got a email saying I got editorial discretion. What does that mean? I owned everything I uploaded. Why doesn't distro kid have a phone number to speak to a real person?
distrokid becomes much expensive when you add in the discovery content id and others which is a must thats like 6 dollars per song on top of your membership fee that you pay each year and those numbers stack up during my research i found that alaw takes 15 percent and landr also takes 15 percent and 30 percent of content id royalties if you choose the pay per release distrokid also takes 20 percent cut on top of the yearly feee i think cdbaby with the 9 percent cut is quite fair if you do make it big i mean you can jump ships but cd baby as of now makes much more sense also the legacy fee is a myth if your card stops working lol
Actually if you think about it how these distribution companies are always changing everything that it's better to pay a per album or per song because if you ever are unable to pay every year for unlimited uploads they will just take down your music whereas CD baby your music will stay up permanently they won't take it down.
Yeah this clown shit, I'm staying on the pay once forever vibe. Cdbaby is dope and this goon our here like "yeh I've been approached for movies" and sooo focused on royalties most artists don't see instead of the ease of use in releasing your art. I'd rather get it out there easier and better than get nickels on the dime just to say "haha statistics"
I thing the worst part is that CD baby they support is 0 from 1 to 10 is terrible so if you have an issue you are on your own they have a robot machine answering your question with its not helpful at all .
The customer service of Cd baby is so bad.. I need to change my artist name in the platforms to release my new music and they made it a nightmare. The first time I contact the customer service they just responded me 2 weeks later with a generic email telling me that they can't change any released song. So they never read my email cause I ain't talked about any released.. I tried to contact them 3 more times and they just ignore me.. Conclusion: They can be the best company but If their customer service ain't good, the company ain't work for me..
Cd baby has constant website issues. These sites won't provide timely help. The chat is moronic. The email case ticket is painfully slow. But.....none of the companies are user friendly...a real kitty litter box

Yo How to upload music video with cd baby?
06:35 This comparison doesn't make sense.
You should count with 12 songs album for 5 years.
Now 19 more albums to do 😂
Be better CDbaby 🤦🏽♂️
Jesus Christ if you have 20 albums then no wonder you're upset
@@GavinBryce That's what I'm saying 20 Albums lol ... he getting it in
Here is the deal, if you want to pay 10 dollars for each of your valuable songs to stay in shops forever than go with CD Baby, They will take 9% of your income but you will leave a legacy.
(You can also pay extra 20 dollars I think on DistroKid to leave your song forever)
(Who Does That)
U can leave legacy on distrokid. U just have to pay like $35 per song.
Oh shit. I just see the bottom of your comment lol. My bad
Legacy in Distrokid costs 49 dollars, not 20!
I feel this a lot. That’s why I went with CD baby.
I’ve heard so many horror stories about Distrokid so I won’t even touch them. zero complaints about CD Baby. After watching this video, I guess I need to look into Tunecore.
TuneCore isn't worth it. I'm a slave to it myself.
@@GHJ_Music I actually decided to go with DK and it’s been fine for the most part. Glad they accepted your band name
Can u answer distrokid charges 30% withholding & cd baby also??? 🙌:)
Distrokid is more expensive unless you’re getting the absolute basics or unless you generate hundreds of thousands of streams.
distrokid fucking sucks lol
theyre withholding 30% of my royalties ($600) and i have no way to file a tax return via e-filing etc. for someone in college this is a lot and ive never made a more expensive music decision
Is there any other one time fees music distribution platfrom like CD Baby?
Emubands. Expensive one time fee but you get 100% royalties.
Distributed have a 'Legacy' add on that makes your release permanent with no ongoing fees.
How about should I pay every year forever or I’ll pay one time? Please it’s so hard to decide if you don’t know if your songs will be heard or not!
CDbaby, pay once and you don't have to think about it.
Tunecore and Distrokid don't distribute Classical releases to Apple Music, unfortunately. That's why some musicians are still working with CDBABY.
I prefer cdbaby pls ...well all are cool but cdbaby is d best
any update on what your using now? what about ditto?
Wrong! CD baby is fantastic.
Agreed
I also agree. His comparison is absurd.
Serious question, with distrokid & tunecore you have to pay the annual fee right….?….so what happens if you die and you are no longer paying the fee? Do they pull your catalog?
Cos one thing that def matters to me is having my music permanently online no matter if I’m here or not….
distrokid charges 30$ per song to keep your songs up forever. bs to me
If you don't pay your records will not play. There is a legacy upcharge you can pay on one of them though. Cd Baby one time payment covers for life.
Здравствуйте.. У меня есть аккаунт cdbaby но не могу зайти так как я сменил номер телефона и без сообщений не могу зайти.. Не подскажите что я могу сделать?
i see you delete my comment for telling the truth and i understand you are paid by distrokid, not nice what are you doing
Nice info. Can you turn off the autofocus on your camera?
Please say me CDbaby have Royalties split option..?
cd baby Pro publishing is not applicable in my country( Turkey) so I published my song with standard package . Can't we earn from streaming and downloads with the standard package?
I have added my music video to my youtube page, there is no warning about copyright and cd baby is not mentioned. Will I not earn from youtube views?
I have waaaay too many songs for Distrokid to be taking $5 per song every year. 150 songs.
Its far better than suecore and distrotakeyourrent
DISTROTAKEYOURRENT LMAOOO
Hilarious!
The others say they do but my royalty statements have been drastically different.
doesnt mention all the other yearly fees per song you have to pay to distrokid for the discovery package or if you want them to add your songs to future DSP's and oh lets not forget legacy. all that adds up and ends up costing you more than cd baby's cut they take.
sorry but i can not afford yearly or monthly payment on music I CREATED and who cares about how many sales you make and how much they take what matters is being heard and also 9% really!? oh so scary you do realize every single sale adds up they may take $9 but you'll be making way way more then that once you get a good following everything adds up no matter how much your album is and yes there is a good amount of people that by CDs and vinyl and i plan on releasing a digital and vinyl exclusive i know that may sound dumb to some people but it's my music and I'm going to release it the way i want to and CD Baby is as self-published and independent as you can get
CdBaby getting roasted for 12:46 Minutes straight.
I keep reading about cd baby paying out quickly whereas distrokid takes months! Is that true?
Which one monitors the royalties after the upload?
Also, avoid Ditto Music, which steals royalties. There are so many victims. Ditto Music is a vicious company that does not pay royalties.
If you make a lot of music and don't want to pay 10$ per song then just go with something like Distrokid which gives you unlimited releases for like 20$
You’re better off doing the publishing yourself.
Been using cd baby like for 5years + now! Everything is amazing about it! The payouts are awesome too! CD Baby all the way! 🚀🔥🌟
Hello, how long does it takes for our music to be live on all platforms? How’s your experience? I’m planning to release with them. Please reply😅
Tune core is just stupidly expensive. It’s in no way viable for beginners
Can we whitelist in cdbaby
I use CD Baby and I think it's perfect for me, unless you are a huge star there's nothing wrong with them
if you die and cant pay your membership.... your musical legacy disappears.
except cdbaby, i think they keep it forever? can someone confirm that?
first I distributed the song on spotify and then uploaded it on youtube..
Still cd baby is better 😊
Hard to believe your sincerity when you have to links in your description to Tunecore and DistroKid with discounts smh.
Meaning you have some kind or sponsorship with them and make money every time someone's using those links WOW no wonder you "never use CD Baby".....until they offer you twice as much as those 2 then it'll be "why I had an epiphany and LOVE CD Baby now."
Is this still righ as of October 2022💃🕺🏻😢good info 💅🏻trying to find out how to release music is a headspinner 🏃♀️thx JT
”30% of your youtube royalties” If I have understood right DistroKid doesn’t even collect these royalties and that is why they don’t take any %?
Pay once for CD Baby and it's up forever, no annual fee. Being a long term artist that does not release a massive amount of music, that is valuable. Very slow customer service though.
I got a email saying I got editorial discretion. What does that mean? I owned everything I uploaded. Why doesn't distro kid have a phone number to speak to a real person?
Thanks very much for this info! I'm going to check out other platforms besides CD Baby! #CdBaby
This video is misleading
So if I sign up for cd baby pro
Do I still have to sign up for BMI?
I have about 200 Tracks on CD Baby on Distro Kid I have to pay 5 Dollars Anauly per track for synk plus anaul fee?
Can anyone tell me how I can delete my CD Baby Account? I dont see a "Delete Account" button lol
Bro I got a copyright claim from them on behalf of Nb records like I have never herd of them but I got claimed
I wish the gov only charged me 9% taxes like Cdbaby. Instead I got a raise and am making less because my taxes increased.
What happens if Distrokid goes bust.. ?
distrokid becomes much expensive when you add in the discovery content id and others which is a must thats like 6 dollars per song on top of your membership fee that you pay each year and those numbers stack up during my research i found that alaw takes 15 percent and landr also takes 15 percent and 30 percent of content id royalties if you choose the pay per release distrokid also takes 20 percent cut on top of the yearly feee i think cdbaby with the 9 percent cut is quite fair if you do make it big i mean you can jump ships but cd baby as of now makes much more sense also the legacy fee is a myth if your card stops working lol
Actually if you think about it how these distribution companies are always changing everything that it's better to pay a per album or per song because if you ever are unable to pay every year for unlimited uploads they will just take down your music whereas CD baby your music will stay up permanently they won't take it down.
I only get a fraction of a penny for streams, can someone help understand why? It's almost impossible to reach cdbaby
Thank you do much just was finna sign up for cd baby not anymore
Who you signed up with?
i need you help for distribution my music
Yeah this clown shit, I'm staying on the pay once forever vibe. Cdbaby is dope and this goon our here like "yeh I've been approached for movies" and sooo focused on royalties most artists don't see instead of the ease of use in releasing your art. I'd rather get it out there easier and better than get nickels on the dime just to say "haha statistics"
TH-cam collecting is a yearly fee on distro per track
With all due respect this video is extremely biased.
They do respond to me!!!
You TH-camrs should be telling the truth rather emphasize on the Legacy part when it comes to distrokid
Don't even mention TuneCore, that's the worst of all of them...
Do a 5 year spreadsheet and look at your numbers
hiphop artists cant monetize (via Distro Kid ) - thats the only genre they dont cover
True that, that's why I use CDbaby when I release original music and Distrokid when I buy a leased beat.
I chose CD BABY AND I AM GOING TO REGISTER WITH SOUNDGROUND SONGTRUST FOR MY MECHANICAL RIGHTS AND MLC IS FREE TO TEGISTER
So are you going to be uploading 20 albums every year? That’s what I thought.
30% Instagram, Facebook, youtube is huge number. Have to research if this still is the case in 2024, heading to cd baby.
Now they created CdBaby Boost
I left distrokid because when you add extras, in the second year, they hit your account all the time, for a buck here, $5 there.
Cd baby has constant website issues. These sites won't provide timely help. The chat is moronic. The email case ticket is painfully slow. But.....none of the companies are user friendly...a real kitty litter box
