- Finally - PART 2 of the Kyrgyzstan motorcycle adventure! very sorry for the delay - work and real life got in the way, but we are back editing and will pump out our next videos as quick as possible.
If you watched the last episode, we got a little bit stuck trying to go over the Tossor Pass (Tosor Pass) in Kyrgyzstan aiming to get to Issyk Kul. In this episode we pick up right where we left off. We retreated back down from Tosor pass and camped in the valley with the intention of heading back the way we came to Naryn the following morning.
However... Plans change! a local Kyrgy man on his horse showed up and without us being able to speak his language, we used maps and a lot of pointing and he assured us we could continue east through the valley on our motorbikes. If he is right, we would save over a day of riding. Let's just say he might have been wrong!
The next few days were a mix of broken down bikes, plenty of mud, no food, finding random tents, abandoning both our bikes and trekking out to safety. Adventure motorbiking at it's best!
This is the first time our DR650 motorcycles have really let us down. Although I think it is safe to say that we pushed them to their limits. From there we had to come up with a back up plan to get back into the mountains and find our bikes, repair them and then get out of there.

what I like about you two guys is that when everything turns to shite, you don't turn on one another and start working out your frustration/disappointment. I went on a ride to Nepal with a guy and even in India, he spat the dummy when things got difficult and resorted to childish temper tantrums. So you guys are doing it so well being supportive of one another and always seeing something good in the ride.
Yeah mate surprising we didnt fall out much at all but saying that we both knew when to back off or try crack a joke too to lighten things up. Reality is in those scenarios moaning and shouting isnt going to help at all.
Great fun in the end and a nice little adventure. Definitely puts work stressing into persepctive haha

Brilliant series!! This is the best motorcycle travelog I have seen - good enough to be on a streaming platform. I only found it about a month ago and binged my way through all the episodes to date. Lucky me that the wait wasn't long at all before this episode came out. Even my wife - who has no interest in motorcycle adventure travel - won't let me watch an episode without her.

@@Northandleftabit going super budget, so after a 'sleep in a hedge' tour of morroco, dalmatian coast, Turkey and Eastern Europe for 6 months, we will ship to the USA and head to South America...hopefully a whole year down there 🤞

I really liked this movie, especially how you deal with it. I usually travel alone and I wouldn't be able to cope in such a place. Once I took another motorcyclist with me and even though he was over 10 years older, he complained every day like a child. I put up with him until he hit me because it turned out that he couldn't look where he was going when taking turns. I really admire your attitude and the way you get to know the world and what life brings to you.💚
Nice to have you back on youtube. That new editing style with the 3DMap is such a nice touch and really helps to understand the struggle. I am really looking forward to the next episode.

The road which i dream, but u covered nicely with lots of Challenges.... kudos 👏
As much gear as you guys carry on your scooters, a small "just in case" moto- care package is essential for such remote riding, especially in gooey, icey, traction free places where you know your clutch will get a abusive workout especially when packing such a load in those riding conditions. An extra set of clutch plates, clutch cable, throttle cable, extra air cleaner element and/or a washable breathable K&N style oiled foam a/c element cover,(protects the paper air cleaner in wet conditions from getting too damp to breathe) , 2 tyre tubes F&R & tyre plug kit if tubeless (tubes are a lifesaver for failed tubeless repairs on a gash, split or larger than life puncture) & a micro air compressor of coarse. Also 2-3 quarts of the proper engine oil for proper change & a filter. Probably a kilo or so extra to pack but save alot of grief, exposure & walking hungry. Also with the clutch plates, wash, scrub & rinse off the plates with gasoline 2x & let dry completely before sanding with a medium- heavier grit, as sanding the thick glaze off of burnt & unwashed oily plates just creates an absorbent surface & helps those nasty slick additives from the 2 stroke scooter oil used to penetrate further into the dry clutch plate material. Unless you guys weigh in at over a 180 pounds, may want to consider traveling on smaller 300cc ADV set up bikes. Get rid of the kitchen sink & lighten the gear load down to essentials. Double your MPG, much lighter & easier to manage while pushing through slush & mud or uphill, Imagine tugging on a Tuna boat like a Gs1200. Not much difference in top speed on tarmac or dirt roads.By changing sprockets/gearing down a few notches can really make a difference between crawling over terrain with relative ease and kicking up a rooster tail digging in deep & going nowhere. You may lose 10-15 mph on the top end, but whats the hurry? Also creating a quick release totally removable setup for the top box & Panniers & rest of gear is a real clutch saver when it comes to this type of riding or attempting to ride up steep hard scrabble cobble hills anywhere you find serious traction problems you can remove gear as a single unit and plow through. Brute horsepower, lower tire pressure & weight on the rear wheel can help get traction in some instances, but lower gearing will more often than not do the job., keep lower rpm usable torque & power at the rear wheel & prevent it from breaking loose or digging a hole.. Short KM walks to retrieve gear after riding a bad stretch is much more enjoyable than leaving the bike and taking a multi day 100 kilometer walk looking for Russian clutch plates.. Wish I was about 60 years younger, I'd put a 6 gallon petrol tank & a good comfortable seat on a 200cc-300 cc 4 stroke bike built for Trials riding & go see the rest of the world. Having ridden all around North America back in the day, Putting 1.5m miles on & off road for nearly 40 years on vintage bikes. my most memorable bike trips from west coast to east coast and back were on a 1940 Harley Knuckle 750. 1953 bmw r50, 1967 Triumph 200cc cub, 1964 Honda trail 55, 1963 Ducati desmo 250, and a 1978 goldwing with knobby tyres. all those old bikes did a 7k to 10k mile round trip with no major problems. where as I had many other bikes that broke & I had to walk away, Now days I ride an electric bicycle and can barely do that at my age....But you & a few other adventurous Moto travelers are living out that international Moto travel fantasy for me & I really enjoy the adventures.

Physical fatigue would have been one thing, but combined with lack of sleep and food it would have been intense. Then the mental toll trying to make the right decisions over and over in a potentially trip ending situation... I think you did incredibly well to plan it out and get each other through.

thanks for the feedback, im glad you enjoyed it we hope to have more out soon. Unfortunately we lost some of the footage and there was much more that went wrong up there including a flat battery etc but in the end we got down and overall we had a great time.
