I have one of these in silver with an Ortofon mc30 moving coil which uses a step-up transformer. I haven't used it since the 80s (boxed up in the attic). I need to get a good set of speakers and a good amp. (previously I had B&W 801 speakers and Pioneer spec 1 and 2 power and pre-amp.) You have given me the push I needed to get it back in action again. No doubt it will have issues being in the attic for so long. Good informative video.
The Sony PS-B80 is the first deck to offer the technology of electronic damping (1978), and I believe the DP-47F may be the last. It was still offered by Denon in 1999 and perhaps even later. Enjoy and thanks for the comment.
Hi dear, very good video and beautiful turntable. I have a option to buy one of this B80 and the seller only show the energizing and turning the platter. Could you advice me about some question on this buying? Is the calibration too complex to do? Thank you!
Hi Marcelo, It is rare for a PS-B80 to function properly in "as found" condition. Most require a full restoration at this point to get them back to top function and reliability. The calibration is very complex. To have the best shot start with a PS-B80 that can "auto balance" - the tonearm moves to a horizontal position and the light at the base of the tonearm goes out. Without auto balance the turntable will not play. Good luck, these are amazing tables when done right! Bill
@@Round2Audio thanks man. I bought the XC-65, which apparently is in better condition. If i can fix and calibrate then, so i will go to a more complex Sony in the future. Regards 🤟
Boa tarde sou Leandro Taubaté SP sou fã do aparelho toca disco Sony legal gostei muito bom aparelho demais 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
That's a tough question as the PS-B80 can get the best from a very wide range of cartridges from budget to very high end, and is also a cartridge swappers dream with the auto balance and on the fly tracking force and VTA adjustments. Let me know your price range and I can think about it a bit more.
HELP!!! Does anyone have contact information for Round2Audio (I was able to get in touch with “Round Two Vintage Audio” but that’s a different repair shop).

hello, this Sony is very interesting and it is nice. I hav a Denon DP 47F and mine can almost do the same thing that yours can do and I love it.👍👍

How I wish Sony could do what Technics did by bringing back some of their great turntables.
We can only dream!

What kind of needle do you recommend for this type of turntable? Thanks for sharing.
