I've been binge-watching some K-drama over the holidays and decided to look up how to make this before bailing out to a restaurant- so happy I did! This looks simple and delicious, I am going to make it for dinner!
I was looking for a recipe to try out soft tofu, this was so easy. Korean ingredients arent always easy to find so having just a few ingredients meant i could make this right now. Its fabulous.
So exciting to see you in action! My favourite is Soondubu Jjigae! When you said secret ingredient, I thought it was fish sauce but salted shrimp is so much more flavourful!!! Thank you for the recipe!!!
You make Korean recipes less scary for this adoptee! I didnt grow up learning how to make Korean food so it is so intimidating to me but your recipes are so wonderfully easy to follow! Btw, your voice is lovely, you could do ASMR too ❤
Hi, just made my first batch of Kim Chi. I really enjoy your videos, You are excellent at showing and explaining everything. I'll be trying this stew just as soon as my kim chi gets fermented. Thank you for the great videos.
I wish I could show a picture of mine 순두부 찌개!!! It was my first time trying a korean recipe and it was so tasty and I felt so happy that I did it that I want to try more recipes!!!! Thanks for share your recipeee!!!! I loved it because is tasty and easy to make! I used some mushrooms because I don't eat meat!
Yum!! Can't wait to make this recipe, picked up all the ingredients today ... including the salted shrimp. Love Korean Bapsang you make Korean cooking fun, delicious and my husband loves my Korean cooking ... well I do admit Korean Bapsang is my 'secret' ingredient. Thanks for sharing your love of Korean cooking with all of us.
So happy that you are making videos now. I feel confident to try out more of your recipes because you make everything look so delicious and simple. Can you please do a video on doenjang jjigae.
This was a lovely recipe! I loved the silkiness of the sundubu and the flavours in the broth. I didn't have any meat to put in it but I used some prawns/shrimp I had and a handful of sliced shitake mushrooms and didn't miss the meat at all! Thanks, too, for the tip about using the salted shrimp instead of salt -- it really adds lovely umami flavour. I served this with "purple-tinged" rice and used several leftover dishes as balchan. I really love your recipes they are easy to follow and always delicious! Thank you.
If I am honest with myself, 순두부 해물 찌개 is my absolute favorite. With some muscles, scallops, large shrimp or crawdads, even some crab if you want to get fancy. Or with a some shrimp and well cut sausage it’s like sundubu gumbo! Add an egg and noodles to it and you have a super filling comfort meal - perfect for a long day of work in the winter time! 순두부 찌개 is so diverse, and that’s probably why it’s a huge staple meal!
I have some kimchi and tofu on hand so I think I’ll make this! Thanks for the recipe~ Though I think I’ll be using olive oil and turkish paste instead since I’m turkish and that’s usually what I use LOL
Lovely video! Thank you for this recipe! I'm so excited to this. My favorite is definitely the kimchi beef but it's too expensive to eat out every week so I'm looking forward to gathering all the ingredients and trying to make it at home. Cheers!
great recipe! i usually just grab some silken tofu from the grocery store but now i know how to use those tubes of tofu! to make my non traditional kimchi jjigae i also usually brown the meat - marinated in ginger, garlic, scallions, salt and gochugaru -remove- then cook an onion and combine that with my chopped kimchi to sweat a bit. then i take whatever stock i have in my freezer ( chicken stock most likely) and pour that in along with dried anchovies or dashi stock. i love the soup but i was always disappointed with my tofu!
this recipe looks delicious. thank you. my first time seeing your channel was your post on Mandu. Are there many recipes that "Don't " contain wheat, rye or barley? I have Celiac disease and would love to be able to find a kind of food that is generally safe to eat. I love Kimchee and Mandu and Bulgogi.
I use premium gochugaru from Korea. They are not usually big name brands. I've added links to a couple of different brands in the video description. Otherwise, look for HACCP Certified and Korean grown at Korean markets near you. A bit more pricy, but a bag of gochugaru can last long if you keep it in the freezer. Hope this helps!
Can this be made in a dolsot? I bought a dolsot recently and, being a newbie to Korean cooking, I'm a little intimidated to start using it. I have never seen one in use, only for serving food, so I'm worried I'll do something to mess up the dolsot.
That's gochugaru, Korean red chili pepper powder. It's not shrimp sauce. I think you're talking about saeujeot I mentioned at the end, which is salted and fermented shrimp Koreans use in kimchi and other dishes.
OMG! I just had breakfast and now I'm hungry... . Looks like I'm having Korean today. Thank you....I think? Any who. ....they open at 11, it's 8...&*^#% that's four hours! Huuummmm. It's peanut butter sandwich to da rescue.
This main part of this dish is tofu, so this probably is not a good dish for someone doesn't like tofu. How about make kimchi stew instead, omitting the tofu. You can find my recipe on koreanbapsang.com. Hope you try it.
It looks good ! But tofu is a japanese term ! This is korean food so using korean terms/name is correct !!! It's called Dubu !!! 두부 Dubu in english is soybean curd it realy look's good 🖖🇰🇷🎎🙋♂️
Dubu is known as tofu in English. It all originated from the Chinese term 豆腐, which every Asian country pronounces slightly differently. Not exactly a Japanese term.
Kimchi adds quite a bit of saltiness. Also, starting at 3:35, I say this needs a little bit of salt, but I'm going to use salted shrimp instead, a secret ingredient that adds umami while adding saltiness.
Your recipe is the most simple and my family loved it! Thanks!!!
So happy to hear that. Thank you!

Yes it is very diverse, and I love seafood version as well.
I tried this recipe but instead of pork i use beef and it turned out amazing. Thank youuu 😋
beef better than pork?
Idk, i dont eat pork so i cant really say
Thank you! I just made a portion of 3. The salted shrimp is a must. It tastes reallyyy bland without it. I also added a little bit of soy sauce.
Great! I'm sure it was delicious!
So glad you are making videos! I’ve followed your website for years😄
I tried this recipe for the first time and it tasted so yummy! Thank you for sharing this recipe!

I have some kimchi and tofu on hand so I think I’ll make this! Thanks for the recipe~ Though I think I’ll be using olive oil and turkish paste instead since I’m turkish and that’s usually what I use LOL
Great that you adapt the recipe with what you have. Enjoy!!
Lovely video! Thank you for this recipe! I'm so excited to this. My favorite is definitely the kimchi beef but it's too expensive to eat out every week so I'm looking forward to gathering all the ingredients and trying to make it at home. Cheers!
Thank you for the kind words! So easy to make it at home. You won't be disappointed!
I think the salted shrimp may be the missing secret ingredient for our home cooked sundubu jjigae! Will have to try that out next time ☺️
May be! Try it and let me know.
yum yum! One of the best Korean stew dishes!!
Indeed!
great recipe! i usually just grab some silken tofu from the grocery store but now i know how to use those tubes of tofu! to make my non traditional kimchi jjigae i also usually brown the meat - marinated in ginger, garlic, scallions, salt and gochugaru -remove- then cook an onion and combine that with my chopped kimchi to sweat a bit. then i take whatever stock i have in my freezer ( chicken stock most likely) and pour that in along with dried anchovies or dashi stock. i love the soup but i was always disappointed with my tofu!

You're welcome 😊
Wonderful recipe! Thank you

I always use anchovy, kelp, radish broth instead of water in my jigae.
Sure makes it better!
very helpful thank you
Great! Thanks for watching!
Thanx from Russia! :D
New sub. Yes a match made in heaven 😋👍
What brand of Gochugaru do you use? Would love if you would post the brands of Korean seasonings that you use in your recipes. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this recipe... I’m ready to try. Can I ask if the sesame oil at the beginning is roasted or unroasted? Thank you
Korean sesame oil is usually roasted, but you can use either one. Hope you enjoy it.
Thank you
thank you, this helped a lot!!!
Great! Happy to hear that! Thanks for watching!
Can this be made in a dolsot? I bought a dolsot recently and, being a newbie to Korean cooking, I'm a little intimidated to start using it. I have never seen one in use, only for serving food, so I'm worried I'll do something to mess up the dolsot.
Yes definitely! Dolsot is stove safe.
Awesomeness
thank you!
Can i use chili powder to spice up my sundubu?
Yes!
Please also make radish kimchi and bibimbap
What was the red powder added to sesame oil? I'm new at this. Also shrimp sauce? I need a recipe for that.
That's gochugaru, Korean red chili pepper powder. It's not shrimp sauce. I think you're talking about saeujeot I mentioned at the end, which is salted and fermented shrimp Koreans use in kimchi and other dishes.
WOW
love it
Thank you!
You make me want to go to supermarket and buy the stuff for Soondubu even it’s almost mid night😭😭
ps. Bibimbap pleaseeeee
Is there something else you could suggest beside the salted shrimp? for someone who is allergic to shrimp...
Just use more salt as necessary
sundubu jiggae
Why you're not making content anymore, we need this :(
Working on it again. Stay tuned! Thank you!
YUMMM Soondubu is my favorite!
Mine too!
Hi, I accidentally bought superfine hot pepper flakes, is it suitable to make the stew?
Yes fine to use in the stew! Enjoy!
Thank you for the recipe. You are so beautiful omma-nim. ☺️
Thank you!
OMG! I just had breakfast and now I'm hungry... . Looks like I'm having Korean today. Thank you....I think? Any who. ....they open at 11, it's 8...&*^#% that's four hours! Huuummmm. It's peanut butter sandwich to da rescue.
I would love to make this sadly my boyfriend doesn't like tofu, can i use something else?
This main part of this dish is tofu, so this probably is not a good dish for someone doesn't like tofu. How about make kimchi stew instead, omitting the tofu. You can find my recipe on koreanbapsang.com. Hope you try it.
I'm in the middle of cooking this and realized, what happened to the garlic? Was it added with the green onions?
2:35 she added the garlic
I luv tofu!
Me too! Hope you try this soon.
Thank you for posting. I just make it without the pork since I don"t like pork
It's still good!
I wish I had kimchi and soft tofu in my city, hard to findo in cities in brazil :(
oh sorry to hear that!
It looks good ! But tofu is a japanese term !
This is korean food so using korean terms/name is correct !!!
It's called Dubu !!! 두부
Dubu in english is soybean curd
it realy look's good 🖖🇰🇷🎎🙋♂️
Dubu is known as tofu in English. It all originated from the Chinese term 豆腐, which every Asian country pronounces slightly differently. Not exactly a Japanese term.
Watch your finger when flexing your knife skills! 😊
of course!
Where did you get the black stone pot? I’ll be in Korea soon and would love to get it
Korean Version of Martha stewart
when you say a little secret and it's not actually a secret, i thought it would be msg 🤣🤣🤣
haha nothing wrong with MSG but I don't use it.
What are your bowls/pot called and where can I buy
An earthenware called ttukbaegi (뚝배기). Some Korean markets carry them, or you can definitely find them on line. Just Google ttukbaegi.
Why You don’t add salt in it? I am surprised
Kimchi adds quite a bit of saltiness. Also, starting at 3:35, I say this needs a little bit of salt, but I'm going to use salted shrimp instead, a secret ingredient that adds umami while adding saltiness.
taste like iths
😋
😍😍😍💯
Where have you been all my life
Aww that's so sweet!
The salted shrimp is KEY. Do not omit this ingredient. Maangchi’s soondubu jigae recipe is horrible bc of this missing key ingredient.
Yes it's a must!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪👍
Too bad d video looks blurry.
