    Two important details he missed.
    - The game is cross play
    - The game has rollback netcode

    Looks like a fancy Pong remake. Which for someone who was around when Pong was new is hilarious

    I remember playing this at PAX West 2019, it was a ton of fun for the 10 minutes I had with the game, though it also sounds like I may have experienced most of the game in that time.
    Might still pick it up for some couch party play though.

    I believe it is also supposed to release on Stadia a bit later; it was actually announced at the platform's launch 2 years ago, but was recently delayed.

    I love the gameplay, but it really needs extra modes like the minigames being separate from the story mode, more minigames, a season mode and extra unlocks like characters or new outfit colors. Hopefully, Dotemu will keep adding content to make it even better. It could easily be a 10/10 game for me.

      Windjammers 1 is a very bare-bones game, so is Windjammers 2. All the fun you get from these games is from mastering the characters and their mechanics, so I wouldn't rely on Dotemu to release new content, especially due to their small size. Maybe a few patches, but that's probably it.
      I've already played 5 hours, and it feels so refreshing having nothing but the game to enjoy. I don't think they need to add anything else.

    For someone who didnt played the first one
    I really miss a good tutorial..
    As you mention there is a how to play guide.. But there is a difference from learning it in game and just read and remember.. It wouldve helped with just a small level to get the hang of the controls.. I spend the first hour just trying to find out how to block, how to counter and so on
    It ended up being more frustrating than what it had to be..
    But when you first get the grib of the controls then you clearly have a solid and fun game.. I will give it that.. I had a few fps drops at times which is a shame in a fast paced game like this but nothing too big that you cant ignore..
    Also agree on the content
    Could need some unlockables like clothes
    Discs, characters etc. Or more game modes.. Else even with the addicting gameplay it will dry out a bit fast and having no reason for you to come back

    This game only survived as long as it did in people's hearts and minds because of the competition element. Everything added would have just been fluff

    • @View619
      @View619 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True, but if the new game is going to move beyond the small group of competitive players from the first game (and it needs to for success) then it has to pull in newcomers expecting more from their games. I enjoy it, but it is very sparse and appeals to a specific group of gamers.
      I'm actually surprised that the arcade mini-games aren't their own mode, just for variety sake.

    Ah, the classic complain that a game GIVES YOU THE WHOLE GAME UP FRONT. So if they gave you less at the start and then made you work for the rest, you'd be happier? What kind of opinion is that? "Give me Skinner boxes and limit my access top the game, thank you"

    • @theescapist
      @theescapist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ah, the classic comment that doesn’t understand progression in games, giving you a reason to keep playing to unlock new characters and stages or modes, and has nothing to do with money.
      Smart ass.

      I paid 700$ for the Neo Geo AES version of the original a couple of years back and don`t regret it. If this is your cup of tea you are in for a treat.
