Cutting out the rotted door jamb, sealing the threshold and replacing the brickmould has never been easier. This repair will keep your door looking awesome another ten years. 20 if you use vinyl. Unfortunately, that’s the thing that stood out for me, distracting me from watching the end of another quality repair.
I’ve relocated so many bugs while working in THEIR habitat that it seems pointless to kill them, but if I believe them to be dangerous, I’ll never torture them with a slow death like that. Just stomp ‘em, man. That’s more humane.

What do you think of this tho. Instead of a butt joint on the patch pieces, what about 45 over laps to hide seam better?
Hey Marty. Great question when I first started out I used to 45s but found the customers really could care less because you could still see the same. If you’re going with seamless I find Bondo to be most amazing. I hope this helps thanks for commenting

Would it be a good idea to add some caulk under or behind the new wood at the bottom, as well as where it touches the sill plate?

Didn't know PVC rots
I need to remove + reinstall a french door to repair the subfloor. Jabs are also soft. Should I replace jambs while frame is out, or wait until door+frame reinstalled?
Hi slip on. When there gets to be excessive amount of damage to the jams it may be best to replace them. I would remove the whole unit repair the floor and then install a new prehung door

Hey Rocky that is a compound miter saw. This one was a ryobi around 125 bucks

Hi Miranda yes. You need to weigh the cost of what the alternative is. We could change the entire door at $600 plus or we could do this repair job. I believe I charged this guy 225+ material
And to think I had a repair man tell me I’d have to replace the whole door framing
Hey Abbie. Definitely not. When it gets bad you may need to but this guy had small rot at the bottom of one side. We saved it! And saved him a few hundred bucks.
Man glad you posted this. I have to do this same repair on a couple of my friends houses and I don't even know what I'm doing 🤣. But if you can do guess I can do it 😜.
What about a lose threshold on the bottom??
hey nestor! of course you can do it!...once you get the new jamb in there, you can seal it with adhesive caulk to the jamb and the ground..you got this!

Where do u get the jamb replacement???? Can’t fine it anywhere. Might as well just buy a new door with all the hassle to find this piece.
Cause you have to buy a “kit” at $100. Add another $150 and I can have a whole new door with jamb. Doesn’t make sense.
Hey nannette. They sell complete jambs in the trim aisle at the home depot. Probably Lowe’s too. They sell individual legs or the complete jamb. They also have them with pvc bottoms. I hope this helps! .
They sell the one leg for 2o bucks in va beach. 😧
I showed them the piece I cut out ( which is just like this video has), and Home Depot clerks looked at me like I was crazy. In Ludington MI. Not at Lowe’s or Menards either.

Hey brother. You may try a mobile home building supply store and replace the prehung door. Otherwise you would need to build a new jam out of lumber. I hope this helps
How do you add a Z-bar above the existing top brick mould if there is no z-bar?
Hey Jesse. You can squeeze it In behind the siding or you may have to pull the top trim off. You got this
Question, how do you get that sill plate up? Everytime it rains I get water running under the my plate. Don't see any screws holding it down. Can't get caulk under there, tried.
hey doug...if youre just trying to stop the water, i would seal the bottom with quad..( hardcore exterior sealant)...otherwise someone may have put it down with liquid nails..or a like adhesive. There should be NO screws in a threshold so it should pop up..

Hey Sandy they usually sell an exterior jam kit in the trim Aisle At the Home Depot. Exterior jam kit, sometimes they sell them in single pieces. You got this good luck!

Looking at this as an option. I think the door is beat and rusted beyond repairing, 20 + years old. We’ll see.

Great video. You are an expert. Be careful though bro with the saw! Use it safely! Never hold board with one hand while cutting with other, also hearing protection! It's not worth it, you get a big hand injury you'll never make another video again.

Most home sales require a clear WDO (wood destroying organism) report before a loan can be issued.
