    Like many said, now you need to nourish you hair, trim the dry ends and also invest in a satin pillowcase because it doesn't suck out the moisture from your hair like cotton does. This is a new journey for you, maybe you can go natural, no heat and good hair products. I'm looking forward to coming along with you on this hair journey.

    *You were never just the girl with dreads*
    Your an amazing person. Anyone that judges you solely on appearance should be excluded from your life.
    I'm not sure why you did this, but I hope you'll still be happy later. You deserve to be happy.
    Also I know this doesn't matter, but I've never seen anyone look as good as you do with dread locks.
    I'm sorry people don't appreciate your personality. There are a lot of shitty people in this world.

    Using conditioner or oil would’ve helped immensely with breakage. I have taken a few dreads out and was able to keep my length with minimal breakage. I’m sorry you’ve lost much of your length.

      Jade Detamore same! I started in June and decided to go with partial dreads because of Elise. This is a sad day for me too. How's your dread journey been going?

    • @jadelynn8655
      @jadelynn8655 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cherryka 213 it’s going great! I only did partial dreads.. I have about 40-45ish smaller dreads and left some of my hair on the top 😊 I absolutely love them!

      Jade Detamore I counted 33 last night after watching this video. After washing them, I blow dried them in sections and palm rolled them since they were getting super lumpy. I joined 2 into 1 and took one of the top ones off to make my undreaded hair look more even. I'm loving them! Today I'll be adding some decorative string and beads (if they still fit) to them and straightening the top :)

      Elise, darling 💛 what a lovely video this is! It took me two weeks to comb out my 3 year old semi-freeform dreadlocks (took me forever because I'm a full time mom to a toddler) & after they’re out, you’ll feel brand new for a long while.
      If you do miss them, you can always get them back!
      it has been such a lovely journey, thank you for sharing with all of us!
      Your hair is absolutely beautiful with and without your matted hair (♥ó㉨ò)ノ♡

      Why didnt you use conditioner to brush out you would probly have lost way less hair

    • @soniabethancourt1398
      @soniabethancourt1398 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Elise , next time,damp your hair in conditioner or even fabric softener. Cover it and roll it in cling film. Leave it for 2 days. After that,wet it ,start brushing from ends to root and you'll see how easy and less hair loss it's going to be. That's how I removed my sister's 5 years of dreadlocks, in just 3 hours , and she has wavy hair and a lot.

    I love you, Elise and think you are beautiful no matter what your hair. So much hair appears to be "falling out" partly because hair that has fallen out naturally (a normal thing) has wound itself around the original dreadlocks, that's how they got fatter. I think changing your hair is fun, though the dreadlocks are cute. You are going to look very modern and change is good.Treat yourself to a trip to the beauty salon for Christmas, maybe? Whenever they condition my hair at the salon it's amazing.

Your hair may have been what first caught my attention (I love your dreads) but you are so much more and truly a sweetheart and a great gal. I'm so curious to see your hair all brushed out. I'm sure it will be fabulous :) Thanks for including us in your journey.

  • @Ka_Mia
    @Ka_Mia 6 ปีที่แล้ว +67

    You should wet your hair first, then put a lot of hair conditioner (could be a cheap one). Your hair is brakeing because you damage it too much while brushing it out when it's dry. Also use a crochet hook intead of a comb. Good luck! I brushed out four heads full of dreadlocks and it is a real pain but it's worth it. But please don't damage your hair like you do in the video.

    • @mindycat1972
      @mindycat1972 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Kej Dżi wet hair snaps and breaks easier than dry. She's doing the right thing.

    • @Axeo19
      @Axeo19 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Brushing wet hair is a HUGE no no.

    • @Ka_Mia
      @Ka_Mia 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      mindycat 72 Jessica January no she's not. If you don't believe me, then try it on your own hair. It's a bad thing to brush wet hair but when it comes to dreadlocks it doesn't work the same. I tried both methods and I believe I am far more experienced when it comes to brushing out dreads than most people. My friend herself decided to brush a coupe of dreads without water AND conditioner (it is really important! Without it, it surely would be a disaster) while I was using my method and very soon she discovered that she was wrong. Such a waste of hair but everyone is allowed to do what they want after all. Go watch other videos like that and the results. Most people do it the way I do.

    • @mindycat1972
      @mindycat1972 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Kej Dżi I've combed out a fair number of dreads in my day, and wet hair snaps. It just does. Ask any hairdresser. Technically you're not even supposed to comb your (loose) hair while it's wet. Conditioner is mostly water. If you need lubrication, I would use coconut oil, but NOT water.

    • @Ka_Mia
      @Ka_Mia 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      mindycat 72 no need to ask a hairdresser, I work in a beauty salon. I know how things work, and lots of people find this method the best. You have your experience, I have mine and it's okay.

    reminds me so much of when we brushed out my boyfriend's dreadlocks in june, it took us a week to brush out his 82 dreadlocks and we lost 4 combs on the way by breaking them and the lost hair could fill up two trashbags it was so scary to see all that hair fall off! But he has thick curly hair just like you Elise so he looked amazing afterwards 😁 good luck!

    You look simply gorgeous without the dreads! You were super beautiful with the dreadlocks, but we all need to change something in life, experiencing new things. I think your decision was perfect and it will bring tons of compliments to you and in the future, you can get new dreads if you want. I'm very curious about the final result!!!

    Your dreadlocks were a part of you for a very long time, and they always will be. You are beautiful with them and beautiful without them! It is going to be a major change for awhile since they were a part of you for so long, but your head is going to feel 100 times lighter and you can now curl it or straighten it when your hair becomes healthy again! I really liked the dreadlock look on you, but here is a new beginning and i'm sure you will love it! (:

    I don't use any product on my hair aside from hair conditioner twice a week. And every third day I have to spend four hours detangling my hair. Never before in my life when I had 75% more hair have I had to deal with this issue. My hair grows probably anywhere from 10 to 15 centimeters per year. In The Last 5 Years I have lost more than 75% of my hair and the growth has slowed exponentially. Does anyone have any recommendation on how to prevent dreadlocks from happening? I have an issue where I am not able to lift my left arm to even brush the left side of my head so this process is extremely painful lifting my left arm since I had someone tear my arm out of the socket in August 2018. Are there any type of supplements you guys can recommend? I have lost all of my thick black wire hairs and I'm pretty much left with very fine kinky hair.

    How are you combing them out so fast?! Mine are so thin and no even really matured and I’m spending like an hour or 2 on each.

      Probably lack of patience 😅

    Either way, definitely conditoning mask, morrocon oils and maybe sleep with a silk scarf for a few nights :)

    Gosh it would have been easier and less damage to your hair to put a lot of conditioner in it before combing out. It makes it easier. I love your hair either way, but I will say that you were my biggest inspiration in getting my dreadlocks again (had them 20 years ago)! 😘

    I’m not an expert but it could be the weight of the dreadlock that’s made it break so it’s shorter than you imagined. Looking great though nice and thick.

      pretty sure it's from her crocheting it.... hair naturally dreads. That tool is not meant for hair.
      I've heard it rip while she was doing matinance many times.

    A cat comb would be good, because it's for cats with fluffy hair that gets matted. It's like that one but the tines are a bit moveable... It helps to not pull the hair.

    I know it looks like a lot of hair you brushed out because it would just fall out but its locked inside the dreadlocks for yeeaaars.. you look beautiful either way
