Great video Grant! It's super fun to see your honesty and effort to explore lakes. Very good skill to catch the ones you set out to find! I just caught the biggest largemouth bass in my life yesterday. Dedication is all it takes!
Wow, an absolute masterpiece of a video. I’ve been fascinated with species of fish (and creatures) that live in the deepest parts of Lake Superior since I was a little kid. Hitting a spot that looked fishable in 350 feet of water is one thing but having the gull to stay on it and drop a 6oz Bondy on it and have it pay off was incredible to see. Absolutely love this channel. It deserves 20x more subs than it has.
Agreed. I’m a dish biologist and this video takes it to another level. I’ve done some subspecies hunting as well in the SW for some of the endangered trout species, there something so cool and special about the subspecies
Take a look into fish descending devices for your next trip. They are highly effective and actually required for ocean bottum fishing in Oregon now to decrease bicatch mortaility rates. One of these tied on to a spare rod will get those fish right back down to where they are happy.
I'm not sure about siscowet's ability to get back down but I know laketrout unlike most ocean fish are actually able to burp air out of their bladder. If you catch a perch in 100ft of water its eyes are popping when it gets to the surface. A lake trout from that depth is fine because it can adjust like a scuba tank on its way up and down.
This is seriously the most underrated channel for fishing on TH-cam hands down you consistently put out the most amazingly choreographed and beautiful video content. Maybe people just don’t have the innate draw to Lake Superior like we do. Thanks for putting these out!
I believe you are wrong on the shape of the first fish... I think it was bloated. You could clearly see the second fish deflate. If that was "just their build" the second wouldn't have deflated. I haven't caught them over 300', only down to around 260' and most were bloated. You can definitely tell when you clean them...lots of air in there. With a slow retrieve, some burp on the way up, some don't. Just stating my experience. You put out awesome content, love the channel. Great work!
He is very wrong indeed! The first fish and the 3rd fish did not release air...they were indeed bloated! Those fish aren't super fat....they're filled full of air! And if they are so fatty, they're meat would be orange....bright orange, not white like you said!! This video is loaded with misinformation!!!😂
@timberkolodejchuk1389 The fattiest part of a lake trout is always its belly which always has the whitest meat. The orange colour isn't fat it's from diet.
Yep, that right there is barotrauma from pulling such a small fish up from too deep way too fast. When you catch one big enough that it can actually put up a fight, it takes longer to get them in and they have an opportunity to burp. That poor little thing was just super inflated.
Releasing lean lake trout caught at 100' on Lake Ontario I burb them releasing some air out before release. If not they strugle some time on a surface before diving. Never saw trout floating long time on a surface after release. You come back to check on them, they are long gone. More important not to touch or injure their gills. Cool video, thanks. Bob, Salmon Catcher fishing charters.
Yeah its hard to say. As far as we know, only Lake Superior has confirmed Sub Species of Lake Trout. Maybe someone else out there know differently and they will chime in.
@@SuperiorAngling We have a couple lakes in our area in Northern BC that reach depths of 600'+. We have marked fish around the 300' mark but we might have to targeting them this summer.
Oh my god…… What an adventure!!!! I hope I will make a trip over there once in my live and fish with you guys!! Here we just get get browns and brooks up to 60 cm…… Such a cool Body of water
Morning Grant, i've been a subscriber for a few years, i really enjoy your videos; this was no different. do you know if there are siscowet trout in any of the other great lakes? i live in Cheboygan, we fish Lake Huron a lot; it'd be fun to find them closer to home. this is the second time i watched this, the first time; i asked the same question, siscowets live anywhere besides Lake Superior?
🔥 video gotta love trout fishing the scenery and those beautiful trout! I just uploaded some trout fishing videos they were a blast to make cannot seem to find anyone else that’s 16 and interested in fishing as much as me!!!!!
Super impressive video, can't wait to get back to MN and on some water. A lot of time and effort to get out there and try this and it could be a bust in that depth... but it wasn't and great work!
Always fun to try something new! Should try some ocean slow pitch or fast pitch jigs! I've wanted to try some while ice fishing! Been eyeing up Johnny jigs for deep water ice fishing!!
Amazing video! Once again jealous of your fishery. We will sometimes troll in the evening on flathead lake in 300' fow anywhere from 180 to 220 down for Lakers eating mysis shrimp that come up off the bottom in the evening. Curious who makes that 1st tube you where using?? A 1ounce would be plenty big over here lol. Thanks guys!!
What do you use when trolling for lakers eating mysis? Those buggers are pretty tiny. Do you get any big ones? I've read the big lakers mostly feed on other fish
one of your best videos yet, i'd drive up to fish with you; I wonder if there are siscowet lakers in Lake Huron, i live in Cheboygan. i think i may have to try and find out i can find 350 feet without having to go very far. this was good, where do you get the big soft plastics?
Hi Grant! Thank you for putting out such professional quality Lake Superior content for the world to enjoy and learn from. I look forward to your posts with "baited" anticipation. (I especially love the classical music in this video). I am heading to Isle Royale (with my boat) and will be there for over 3 weeks starting June 9th through July 2. You have certainly inspired me to fish deep this trip and can't wait to drop my line into the deeper spots to try to get some of those monster Siscowet Lakers. I am wondering, are you are planning on doing any fishing this year around Isle Royale? If so, come say hi to me as I am working the whole season at the Rock Harbor gas dock! Thanks again for the great content. Please keep it up! Rob D.
Thanks for the message Rob! Awesome!! Sounds like you have a great Summer ahead. Yeah we make it out there quite often! If im there during that timeframe, ill be sure to swing by the dock and say hello! Good luck fishing deep! Ill be interested to hear if you hook into anything big.
Amazing video!

A masterpiece film honoring God’s creation. Thank you.
Awesome video

Great adventure. Thanks for sharing.
They make a tool for sending fish back to the bottom we use them for fishing rockfish in alaska
The education on this is perfect
Thanks Seth!

Excellent editing Sir.
You put me right in your boat.
you have to wonder what else could be out there... what's in 500 feet... or 1000 feet. superior is a lake like no other on earth, amazing video
We will find out in the next few years!
I love videos like this keep them up buddy
Thanks Seth!
Awesome video dude!
So cool! Unreal footage guys! Thanks for taking us along!
Thanks Ryan!!
Great video! Great content!
Thanks Will
Been a follower/customer for a while now and this is one of the best videos you guys have put out. Super awesome content Grant!!
Thanks Kevin!!
Is the fat belly not just the swim bladder inflating with the decrease in pressure at the surface?
Wow, cool to see these rare fish, they really look different that your run of the mill laker!
A1 Content at its finest - Keep it Up!
Thank you!!!
17-22 inch can eat normally but 22-28 max you can smoke, but any bigger it too fatty to smoke even.
Awsome job grant very good video
yeah - really cool video. Really makes one appreciate how unique the lake is, and the relatively short evolution at play to fill that depth niche.
I've caught tons of siscowets in 200-250, or 300 feet. Also its like 50% siscowets and 25% leans, 25% redfins. And many have Lambert marks.
Who makes the tunes you are using ?
Where are you purchasing your tube jigs that weigh over 3oz?
wow, two of them in one net, outstanding!
This is seriously the most underrated channel for fishing on TH-cam hands down you consistently put out the most amazingly choreographed and beautiful video content. Maybe people just don’t have the innate draw to Lake Superior like we do. Thanks for putting these out!
Thanks so much for the comment! TH-cam just isn't optimized for professional video. Oh well, less views = more fish for us. 🤣
Lake Superior is a mythical place indeed!
Interesting. We catch siscowets in 600 fow out from silver bay. We target them in the top part of the water with raps. Never thought of jigging them
Jigging them is so much fun!

First time I've ever heard of those. There awesome.
Got my first 5 Bondy bait Lake Trout on Lake Tahoe it was so much fun thanks Grant!
That first one is fucked up looking bro 😂😂
That’s it?
Makes you wonder how many of Canada's huge deep lakes hold multiple sub-species of lake trout.
Yeah its hard to say. As far as we know, only Lake Superior has confirmed Sub Species of Lake Trout. Maybe someone else out there know differently and they will chime in.

@@fishinthenorth You never know what could be down there! Ha. creatures of the deep.
Well done! How do you rig up that spinner and treble at the end of the tube? If you have a video on that or a source please share. Thanks!
Beautiful underwater footage! Howd u get it?
Thanks!! With a lot of time and effort. haha.
Amazing. One could fish lake Superior in 350 feet depth with almost a thousand left to the bottom.
How deep could you go?
We have touched bottom with a jig in 1000. No fish yet tho that deep. Soon it will happen.
Awesome Video! Where did you find those large tubes/jigs?
Thanks!! Look up Staple Baits on Instagram.
what brand of net is that??
i just keeps getting better! great fish! that last fish is telling about an alien abduction.

would a transducer designed for salt water be better for those depths?

Wrong the meat range in a wide variety of red pink and orange caught hundreds they are white as well a lot of fun.👍
Great video-really appreciate it. I’m of a different opinion on Lamprey-at the very least we have learned to live with them.
