    Nice! Good to see something about science and engineering of welding and not just techniques

    Very nice lecture sir. This type of teaching not doing in our college as you will do for us. Thank you very much.

    So no need to calculate the normal and shear components of the force going through the area and comparing with normal as well as shear stress capacity?

      Please let's discuss this. I think you are right, my calculations aren't doing well with the video alone.

    Wow , I have been considering going to school to be a welder for a couple years now. And looking at this it all seems so complicated. I have been working on my math skills , but to be honest Ive never been the best at math. I wonder if i could learn this..

      +Christina Parker This is mostly for engineers to calculate, not welders. Welders on the work site will be given the specifications.

      I'm 2 years late, but a welder would almost never need to know this.

      This is stuff a mechanical engineer learns in their senior year of undergrad. A welder would be given the weld information needed to make it: weld length, weld leg height, and weld pitch (center to center distance between welds). Then they go make it.

    Why didn't I find Moodlemech when I started my welding courses at TAFE.

      Kain McKenzie he had only just started the chennel while I was doing the course with him. Before that we would take photos of everything on the white board before he rubbed it out.

    For butt joints, the weld strength is 90% of the the weaker material, either the filler or base metal, correct?

    • @faolan1686
      @faolan1686 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      marsdog No, it 90% of the base material. The filler, as I understand it, never stronger than the base material.

    why are we taking the cross section at the throat area for calculating stress?

  • @daxur89

    Can someone tell me why the stress strain formula uses the throat of the weld and not the height?
