- I am exploring this Historic 1800s Mansion. I have visited this mansion once before. But it was quite difficult to get a good look, with all the brush and overgrowth. I was heading back into the City. And just thought I would make one more visit. Just in case it was my last chance to do so.
I Explore all parts of Manitoba.When I drive by the farms, I can see them sitting out in your field. I would love permission to explore your old Homestead. Maybe get some of the stories if you wanted to share. Just private message me on my about page if you think you might have something interesting from the past that we can experience in the present.

It's really sad that these old places are left to rot.
My century home was built in 1863 with all of the original tongue and groove walls and ceilings both floors and almost 10 ft ceilings for the first floor and 8ft ceilings second floor. Original hardwood flooring both floors; 5 bedroom house with the large stone basement and cistern. I love my home.
Your home sounds so amazing! Is it a designated heritage sight? Those are my fave homes the ones built by hand. 1863 that is an old one!

Such a shame to see someones dream back then when it was built , how people lived and raised their family there only to slowly crumble into the ground. So much history just seems to keep being erased forever. So Sad, but great Video. Thanks

This is the Lyons house in Carberry, Manitoba. You can find pics on the net. It has been abandoned my whole life (I’m 45) but it was always a monument in my home town. Thank you so much for sharing this video. As a teen I always wanted to go through it but was too scared of getting arrested lol

Amazing old house, I love how you take your time in getting even the smallest of details, it actually tells a lot about the house. And you have a good eye about it. That's what makes a truly good explorer, that's what it is all about. Abandoned SC, is also very excellent at capturing the history this way. 10 thumbs up on this one!

I can see in that rounded room with big windows a baby grand piano for music. Ideal place!

From a distance that place looks fairly decent, but as you get closer you can tell the state it's truly in, it's unfortunate that beautiful brick work is being destroyed.
+ARednecksLife That place was done. More likely going to be a cleanup and not a tear down if they wait much longer. Sitting on it's last 2 bricks that's for sure.
What a wonderful old place ! And you do a great job filming,even walking it's not shaky like some I watch. When you came to the old vehicles It made me wish I could show it to my husband, he loved old vehicles. He passed away a year & a half ago, he was bedfast for last couple years & I'd go in there to show him stuff on tv or my phone.
That tin ceiling pieces were beautiful. Just imagine how beautiful it was back in the day when it was all whole,together.
I wish some parts of the house could be saved, the stenciling, even the tin ceiling pieces, window frame. One of my nephews took an old window frame from his grandparents house & made it into a picture frame with old photos of them in it. It looks beautiful in his home.

My mom died in 2001. If she were alive now we'd watch these videos together. When she got beyond living alone my sister's & I took turns going to stay with her (in another state) & we'd watch tv shows/movies over & over. But I wish we'd had these to watch, they're better. She was born in 1921,so she'd be telling me what things were that I didn't recognize.

I wish I could have seen it when there was a family living there. It's still beautiful to me but it's been let go too long and would be considered a total loss now. So this is in Canada I guess since you mentioned Manitoba and it may have quite a bit of land with it? Who knows here in Texas they would possibly tear it down and put in a subdivision which is always sad to see. The houses down here that are newly built are like boxes, the two story ones, and I would never want to live in a house that all the other ones on the street looked the same as mine. People like to buy old cars like those and use it for a project to make new again. Thank you for showing it, it's absolutely beautiful!

I cannot begin to imagine how long it took to stencil that manse. So glad you captured it.
Very sad this place had to be torn down but it's way beyond saving once a better view inside is had, they really loved their wall stenciling back in the 1800s. I love turrets on houses and that's an architectural design you almost never see anymore! The sever structural cracking is a clear indicator the foundation of the house is beyond repair, absolute shame it can not be restored. Thanks for sharing.
Lot's of people ask why it is not being restored. I just say it is just in such bad shape. Thank you for that information. Now I can be prepared to give them a more accurate reason as to why restoration never happened. Thanks Max!
Great too see you again with a explore, the black and white picture on google looked very nice. It was a very nice place back then.It was a beautiful house once. But now ehr a huf and a puf and its gone, Majestic ore not. You were right not too walk everywere. Eager too see if you explored the goodies found while you were running around in winterwonderland lol.

Drove by this house yesterday. Recognized it from your videos. Its still standing. Wanted to stop and take a closer look but it was raining.

Thanks for sharing, Manitoba sure does have some nice hidden gems. I love the large round windows in the houses. I'm sure by today's standards they would be far to cost prohibitive for a lot of people such as myself to heat. I live in an old house in River Heights and just had my roof replace and the roofer said that these old houses were build really sold and that my beams were still really solid. My house is almost 100 years old. I also like the old paint colours which I still have him my home. The paint is being to chip but it still looks great, rather "regal" if you will. Stay safe in your journeys!

It was looking restorable till you see the subsidence at 4.55. The lack of any modern junk like detergent bottles suggests it has been empty 50 years or more.
I really think there was so much history built up into this home that hey just did not have the heart to tear it down even when it was in such a state. But you have your dates right I think.
Interesting mansion, too bad they are not tearing it down instead of restoring it. The old vehicles are a nice find too. Great job on the video. Those floors were sketchy, but what an awesome place to explore!

Those rounded window sills were amazing. Think about how they did that back in the day. I have large round doorways in my old home and they are solid wood. Amazing.

The second visit to this house was even more interesting than the first! I'm so glad you went back, Cindy; an outstanding exploration and video. As I watched I was thinking that maybe someone would copy the stencil designs and use them then you mentioned that wanted someone to save the stencils. Actually, Cindy, with your close, careful documentation YOU have already saved the stencils. Thanks to you there is now a record of them for the future when this house is gone.----The car behind the house makes me think of Grey Gardens, the dilapidated, overgrown mansion on Long Island where the Beales once lived and became the subject of a documentary and HBO drama. That was another place with a car sitting outside.---In the back room downstairs there seems to be a ladies dressing table (my mother used to use the term "vanity table") that makes me wonder if an older lady once lived in the downstairs so she didn't have to or couldn't use the stairs anymore.----I agree: this exceptionally fine house needs to come down; it's now too dangerous to be left standing. I'm glad you were able to go there one more time while there was still an opportunity to do so. Documenting buildings from the past is important and your excellent work is not just entertaining but is a service to the community.

I have done a few of those houses where all their belongings were arranged together on the main floor. I think I would want to do anything to be able to stay in my own place for as long as I could. +PrairieDodgers As I'm listening to this video and reading the comments, I can't help but think of how I loved to explore all the places I used to visit when living in France. I've been blind all my life and live in my own condo, and I love what you said about how important it is for some people to be able to stay in their own home. It's such a prrivelege to have a house of my own and have paid for, and now that I can't work, it's also tough, because I so want to be able to remodel my place, because if I don't, it won't be sellable. I wonder how those who lived in these beautiful places wondered if anybody would keep the place beautiful or if it would fall into disrepair and abandonment? I lived in France for two years, (from 9 to 11 years old), and I miss exploring like I used to over there.Now, here I am at 51, and I'd love to return back to work if my medical condition would make it easier, but I also would like to be independent until the day I leave this world. What you're doing is such a blessing. It would be so nice to be able to do more exploring with someone, because I don't think I'mwilling to do it completely on my own now. I was a lot more fearless as a child. Too bad Guide Dogs don't talk, either, Haha.
But isn't it wonderful that you have those memories of France? I know most likely I will never get to explore Rome or Egypt. So instead I explore where I live. And each one of these small adventures I do is a fond memory to sock away for a day when I am unable to get out and about anymore. I hope you get your placed fixed up. Not to sell but for your own enjoyment and comfort.

I really think they would restore it if there were any chance that they could. This is one of those places that if you pulled a brick the whole place could come down. You are right though it is sad that they could not maintain it.

Lord have mercy, it’s called a porch and a staircase not a deck and a riser. That being said it sure was an incredible home for someone and the stenciling is amazing. At least you have it on video for posterity. Thank you for an amazing find, it’s such a shame they let it fall apart.
As the years go by in my adventures I have slowly learned the structural terminology for the buildings I explore, still lots to learn. You are right though Charlie, the stenciling was spectacular.
While I was watching the video I realized that you are knowledgeable about architectural terminology. You mentioned the riser. I thought “Yeah, that’s where the staircase used to be”. I subscribed to your channel and I look forward to watching all of your videos. Someone else commented about your accent. I love it. When I started watching the video I was thinking that we were in the Midwest of the United States. That is what your accent sounded like to me, but then I realized that you have a little extra accent that is Canadian. Excellent! I look forward to watching all of your videos.

This house is sooo beautiful and I cried a little thinking such beauty was left to be destroyed. The curved windows, stencils are just my style and I would have loved to live in this 100 year old house. Maybe if you leave a note for the demolishers they could cut out some stencils for you. If abandoned houses can not find a renter it would be good if they give rent free just tax and utilities so the house would not rot. The historical society should have saved this house as soon as it was abandoned. I love the time you took in filming so I could see it well. No quick shots. I took photos of barns off 95 from ny to FL

That stenciling was majestic at one time. I could see a soft green, the burgundy stenciling, etc. I'm sure there was some stained glass in some windows too, that coordinated. Loved this and I just had to sub to you!!!! Also, I loved how slow you moved the camera, that each little detail could come into view. Thank you!

This made me so happy. I was on a cross country tour this summer. I camped in the area, even had breakfast in the little town close to this. I wanted to stop and check it out but I was on a solo trip and promised loved ones I would stay on the beaten path

+heythereitsmindy Hello Mindy dear. I think I spend just as much time outside a house as I do inside. This house would have been seen in the field for miles in the Prairies before coming up to it on horse and buggy. I think the immigrants would have seen this place and thought that was going to be the future for them in a few years in this new Country. I hope a few of them achieved their dreams for a new life. I think the people that had this place built were already well off when they immigrated here. Have a Great Day!

Reminds me of going to my grandparents in Saskatchewan, so many old empty homes. They don’t build homes like this anymore, it took tradesmen with skills to do such beautiful work. So much nicer than today and we have all tools. Love these places.

Hi Cindy, I agree with you about trying to save some of the stencilling .This video had me searching Victorian stencils online :) Shame the house is such a state.
researching Victorian stencils online never even crossed my mind. Now I want to find out more too. I know almost nothing at all about them.
There are a few books I've seen in Barns & Noble that have nothing but Victorian era stencils and clip art from that time period. Used book stores can also be a treasure trove of almost forgotten histories and home décor details for nearly any era when looking for ideas if re-modeling.
I just love your videos. You look at what I would look at. . .all the fine details like the wallpaper and wonderful stenciling and that tin ceiling. . . just love it! Thanks for exploring and taking us all along with you!

These are monuments to be cherished and respected .... where is the Love ?? For 12 years and counting restored an 1862 Victorian to pristine condition built like an ox and will last 500 years. When a home is exposed to the elements it quickly deteriorates, the roof is the most important to replace first and foremost and any broken glass. Next, replace all old wiring as house fires are common with old homes with knob n tube. The wind and moisture does a considerable amount of damage to any home. Follow up with replacement of any old plumbing and the cosmetics follow. SAVE A VICTORIAN!

Do you know what kind of trees those are? They are so different from anything we have here, they all split low to the ground almost like a bush. Is it the kind of tree or the harsh climate?
I love this explore. I am glad you're getting back before she is torn down. I love those three arched windows on the one side of the house, I imagine they're following a staircase up. Ooh, you're in and seeing the windows from the house. I love the round rooms, I've always wanted to have one as a library/sanctuary....

Thank you for sharing with us. Each time I think I wonder what that is you zoom in! You take your time and show the architecture and woodwork and peeling paint that so many of us love. I really like your style.
+Lottie Faith Hi Lottie. What Great questions, you bring to the table. Those are Manitoba Maples. And really what you are looking at are all the roots/shoots from the main tree that are now taking the house in it's grip. Maple syrup and Pancakes Yum, Yum! And I also like to use these branches for carving my walking sticks. They twist and turn and the wood I think is pretty nice to work with. I am the Queen of ZOOM! ha ha I just view the screen when I am zooming instead of using binoculars. Nice to hear from you lottie!
This reminds me of seeing images of the Titanic as it slowly disintegrates in its cold, watery grave. If you blur your vision just a bit you begin to see its former beauty; all it requires is a little imagination... Of course James Cameron's detailed recreations don't hurt either. Thank you for documenting this wonderful building so I could imagine how beautiful it once was.

+Lolly Ann A large mansion in this area wood be very hard to keep heated a 100 years ago . It can get in the -50s c in the winter here. But your right that would be considered a guest house today.
This is gorgeous! Superior craftsmanship I sure! When you were walking to the out buildings at the back of the lot it sure looked spooky! Very foreboding looking! Very high ceilings! I guess typical of that era! Very ornamental! Nice find! Thanks for the adventure!

The Lyons mansion still stands!!!
This is by far, one of the most interesting places I've ever seen on TH-cam... I like the way You describe the specifics of this hundred year old house like; the history of the bricks used to build with, the fact that the kitchen would have been an add-on, the awesome hand painted stenciling, and the layers of the wallpapering... Great job video recording this once grand mansion home... Too bad, You couldn't give a copy to the historians of that area for posterity... Sometimes, do You ever find out about the history & pervious families of the older houses like this one? Would be a nice accompaniment to the video... I've subscribed & looking forward to seeing more in the future... This is way different type of house than here in Phoenix, (metropolis), Arizona. ; D

I love old houses. When I was young I would explore old houses & barns. I could c hear & feel the sounds of the houses in full swing. I could feel if they were happy people that lived there. I could also feel vibes of depression & sadness, loneliness from the people that lived there. I cn an elderly man @ a big fancy old yellow farm house carrying fire wood. He tripped & fell in 2 a storage shed 4 wood in side the house. He was knocked out & bleed 2 death from a gash from falling & cutting an artery in his upper thigh. He wasnt found 4 several days. I could c him laying there. Another old farm house right as I stepped on2 the property I could hear an Oregon playing. As I looked around the grounds I could feel a smiling older lady trying 2 talk 2 me. I just couldent tune in 2 her. She would leave & I would hear the orgon again. I stepped on 2 the porch I felt her again smiling. Then she opened up her life 2 me & I cn the property & house in a celebration people were every where laughing talking. Kids were running & playing. A handsom man was bring out a saddled up horse 4 the kids 2 ride. It was wonderful. I blinked & it was gone. I couldn't get in with out breaking in so I called the realtor on the 4 sale sign. I met him the next day acting like my husband wanted 2 buy it. As i walked thru the house i opened a door & there was a dusty broke down orgon. I gasped & smiled 4 the elderly lady that played the orgon 4 me. I have cn a few spirits in my life but shes was the only spirit that cn me. She loved her life there & all the memories, & she showed them 2 me. She must have liked me.

If you look up the Lyons house in Carberry, Manitoba there is a lot that you can read about this home. I’m 45 and it has been abandoned my whole life. It’s a monument in my home town and everyone wanted to check it out. We were afraid we’d get caught and arrested lol!
Very stylish people used to live there even down to the car they had driven that was left out in the back. Would love to know more about them. It's such a shame they would leave a beautiful home to decay this way. Thanks for the tour! :)
+Dawn Renae After it comes down, I will be able to give a bit more info. This place is not safe really to explore. I would not want to lead anyone there. But I can say you are good at picking up the details and your assumption is right! Can you imagine finding out where they dumped out their garbage and picking through it for all the fine containers from all over the world at that time. Or even little things they thought were junk. Just tossed into a pit in the back, somewhere. What a great way to get to know who really lived there. Thank you Dawn, for taking the time!
PrairieDodgers Completely understand and am so looking forward to hearing their story. I owned two very old homes, one a wedding cake of a Victorian that was the biggest house in town and had porches wrapping all of the way around and would dig up shards of fine china while gardening and an even older Salt box style home that had been the founder of the county I lived in. Kicking myself to this day for being too busy while living there to think of buying a metal detector. It would have been so fun to see what else lay beneath the earth in those old places. Love this one....and the stenciling....my great grandparents in Chicago owned a big mansion that had the most amazing art....and my Grandfather used to do it to the homes he owned even after. You could definitely tell that this family had exquisite taste by the style of the home and even the wallpaper they had chosen. Truly loved it and your channel.

Thanks for this beautiful video, what a shame this place was let go like it has. I love the 3 windows in the main staircase. That is amazing, the stenciling. I have thought about doing some stencils in our own house, which is a brick Italianate similar to this, but I can't imagine doing the ceilings. I wonder why they cemented over the brick? It's weird, but I kind of like it. This poor thing has been beyond repair for a long time it looks like. Once the roof goes they are just goners, and it makes my heart hurt for this poor baby.
It makes me imagine back when there was a family and children and holidays and pets, you know, this was someone's pride and joy. 😭so sad to see the end come for a once beautiful home.
Why did we stop building these? Why can't we do it again? Now we have these awful mcmansions with their weird rooflines and nonfunctional pillars and mismatched windows.
Even our own house, I am just taken aback at things, the curves and trims and fancy things, done without the benefit of power tools.
The second floor piping in the bedroom walls...is that from gas lighting? We still have the hardware on our walls, I am fascinated by it. Talk about a giant bomb.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and write such an interesting comment. One of the stencils on the ceiling was an Egyptian revival design that was popular in the 1st decade of the 1900s. I think the flower designs might have been the original stencil. Thank you again!
I just feel there's going to be a ghost going jump out, maybe a little girl waving at you from the top part of the roof. I can hear the voices growing louder and louder, and so I could see the highway in the back before a moment there it sounded like voices moaning loudly, getting louder. I just feel like I turn around and something is going to be there.
It, I think this would make a great horror movie. Will you zoomed into the old car I could imagine the radio to start turning a music from the past this blurring can hear laughter but there's no one there is just the past. And when you step into the kitchen, you can still see the cooks try to prepare meals. I can feel the ghost all around the mansion. I could hear the young girl laughing. The cooks scrambling to make a meal for the guest that's about to rise and each of them being greeted by the owners.
Can anything be recycled? Such as the BRICS are some of the wood you know? Tiny house movement is becoming very popular, you know, and having to be able to recycle anything to go into a tiny house would be proudly remarkable, so is there anything that can be salvageable from these mansions? Or is it really just too late? Please check out tiny house movement if you haven't then you can stay and what I was saying about the transfer of something old into something new and cute please let me know in the comments
PS wood back in the 18 hundreds was much more sturdier than probably today the treatment of it was probably better so bricks wood maybe even some metals could probably be restored and recycled and pro would hold up a lot longer since it was treated with a better upgrade back then that's what you call real masters of carpet
