HOLY MOLY WHAT THE EFFFFFFFF that thing is insanity. Must be a Polish airplane, oh wait! IT IS!! lol. WITH A CANADIAN ENGINE! EPPIIIIIICCCCC. I flew one Wilga 2000 when I was 17, just for a brief moment to feel what it's like to fly the tow plane that I always admired 200ft behind on a tow rope in a glider. A beautiful bird, made of Canadian and Polish parts married together with an American touch. Love it!

That Wilga is about the sickest thing I have ever seen. What an absolute BEAST.

Holy crap. This video had so much packed into 11:37 minutes I need to watch it again. From Hey look, a sandbar that's never been landed on, lets fix that... to the most badass bush plane ever conceived, backing up and taking off and landing on a patch of grass the size of a (small) golf course green no less... Thanks for doing this...

Few things are as awesome as beta on a turboprop. Oh man Mike's got a cool plane. I love how it hunches down before takeoff like a cat ready to pounce or something!

Variable-pitch propeller. Runs the engine up to full power, holds it on the wheel brakes, puts positive pitch on the prop, and release the brakes. Max power, max pulling power from first movement.

SWEET! I am not just awe struck . . . I think I'm "in love" with that incredible aircraft!!
The Draco just blows my mind (can't go wrong with a PWC PT6A). Enjoy this series of videos and your adventure to Air Venture. Thank you very much for sharing, and much thanks to Mike for the DRACO!

I'm not really an airplane enthusiast but after watching the video on the Draco specs and this one of it flying I have to admit I'm incredibly impressed with the build and capabilities of this thing. It is THE hotrod of bush planes. If I flew this would be on my wish list for sure!

If you don’t do something at least once a week that makes you giggle like a kid and stand in awe of something (like Draco) then you’re doing life wrong. Staying connected with that part of your heart is part of truly being a man. Enjoy every second of this dude, I’ll see ya next week!

Congratulations Mike Patey! Mike your enthusiasm and engineering skills are unlike anyone else I've seen. Thoroughly enjoyed the Draco build series!!! Thank you Trent Palmer for posting this video. I'm an hour flight away from KSPK, hope to fly the Fox over there and see it when Mike is back from OSH. It would be fun to fly Kitfox's with you Trent Palmer someday.

I just started watching your videos as I heard your name mentioned by P1D. I cant fly due to eye problems but my passion is aviation ever since I can remember as a little bot. My father worked for United Air Lines so I flew a lot as a passenger. When I was in Alaska last summer I saw many bush planes and sadly saw one go down in Anchorage. I think you pilots are a very special breed of human beings. Truly an elite group of amazing individuals, you have my utmost respect and admiration. So I live vicariously through all of you by sitting in front of my computer watching video after video. Those planes taking off and landing in a couple hundred feet is amazing. Thats what Bush is all about right. Gotta get into those hard to get into places but you guys do it with such class and style.

Trent your the man, thanks so much for the awesome video I know it's hard work but you don't know how much we all appreciate what your doing, this is only the third time I've missed Oshkosh so this is almost as good as going. The flying there is the best part then a party for a week. I can't say thanks enough I'm 65 and every time I go to the airport the smell of avgas the sight of a plane I haven't seen before makes me feel like a kid all over again.

I'm lovin' this series! That is one SICK DRACO! I'm no pilot (yet) but it seems to me that DRACO embodies everything wrong about bush planes... it's BIG, heavy, has a jet engine... looks like a beast, until you see it fly. That is one graceful, beautiful bird.

  • @EyebrowsMahoney

Trent, I want to thank you for putting up these videos. I've always been in love with flying, I've been flying on and off since 2006 "trying" to get my pilots license but I've just been letting other things get in the way. Stumbling across your videos with Ty and all the other guys just finally pushed me over the edge and I've decided to go and finally work towards getting my license. I had a bias toward LSA/Bushplanes but your channel helped make me realize what I love, and that's going low and slow. I hope this finds you well, and I hope you guys enjoy Oshkosh. That Wilga is SOMETHING ELSE!

Just started my day off with a Bang! Thanks for taking the time to knock out the vids. They are doing a fine job of bringing us along for the ride. Enjoy the Baraboo/Dells airport. That is where the Cirrus factory was originally and it's where my Tailwind was built by Jim Clement. Baraboo has a bunch of very talented airplane people that are a LOT of fun to mix it up with. Have a Good Time!

Hahaha... Yes, I can cruise at twice the speed at the same MPG that they are using BUT, I can't land as short nor on Un-Improved strips. The Tailwind has a completely Opposite mission. I have a Rans S7 Courier for flying with the "Low n Slow" guys. Honestly, the best of both worlds. Thanks Dave for the comment.

Hi Fred! I shoulda said Tailwinds rule, too! Sounds like you have the perfect setup. Trent's videos highlighting the KF, Highlander, Rans et al, have really opened my eyes to the capabilities of these great planes. The Rans' background (company started by a cyclist/builder) gives it some extra karma points---notice my avatar! Fly safe, high or low, fast or slow!!

So on my inaugural journey to OSH I landed at DLL late yesterday. Flew the RNAV 1 “first one without an instructor” and landed. Boy was I stoked until I taxied up to the ramp I was like “oh my gosh” The Freaking Flying Cowboys” are here. I jumped out of my plane before the propeller stopped spinning and went to your plane for a pic. Then I proceeded to inform my non-flying son about your vids and what bush flying is. Shortly a young man comes out of the FBO while still at your plane and says “are you the guy that just landed” I know bad question to answer right, “well,Madison App just called and we canceled your flight plan”. So I blame that one on the Flying Cowboys, Rock On!!!!

Tripped on these various "cowboy" vids recently, who are you guys? Wilgas are one of my favorite planes. I owned and flew both 1/4 scale and 1/3 scale R/C models of the Wilga 35 (tho older radial engine model), and they were a hoot. I could take off climb out to 100 feet dump throttle point down pull full flaps and land where I took off in front of me. Turbo conversion on the 2000 is awesome, didn't realize they had already stopped production of that. As a note the 35 Wilga had a counter clockwise rotation, so on take off rudder input was reversed, quite a surprise if you didn't see it coming. A friend took me up for a ride once.

Also Mike did mention reverse thrust and planning for that on his channel, but I never realized that he was actually planning to taxi backwards. A tailwheel bush plane backing up into position :D And I loved the way you filmed that, and the landing. Chin to the floor. :)

It's got to be FUN for a group of low/slow planes & pilots to get together & go places. It reminds me of motorcycle clubs or car clubs going places. But perhaps a more
congenial group. Damn! That DRACO landing made me laugh with joy. I've seen helicopters make longer landing runs.
