      @@TheRadioGarage The only “bad” part is you have to hook it directly to the battery right?

    • @jordanjacobs2440

      Yes hook up directly to battery! To put out power it needs power!

      @@jordanjacobs2440 I figured…🤦‍♂️. It’s just a pain in the ass in the big truck. Regardless it’s such a nice radio. I have a 955 Stryker. It’s a beast too. It’s too menu driven not that’s a bad thing. Pretty sure I have it sold for $550.

    Wow! I am impressed and depressed. Impressed, because the ranger line always disappointed me. The worst thing; the old boards would crack. They could not take the pounding of a big rig. Then there was the quality control issues. Looks like they have begun to address these shortcomings. Depressed, because I cannot justify another radio at this point. I really like this one. Quickly becoming a radio of choice for this old timer. You are progressing. Gaining usefull and valuable knowledge, by a willingness to fiddle a little. Altering the routing on the power wires was radical, but righteous, Matt! Still smilin' and dreaming, I'm off the key. 😑🦗

    Is the installation going to be similar to any other RCI? They don't have the installation instructions for the x9 on the website

    • @TheRadioGarage

      Similar yes but must be able to do smd soldering

    Nice looking radio but, it only has a five digit frequency counter. A six digit frequency counter is preferred for SSB operations. I would seriously consider owning one of these if it had a six digit counter. Anytime I see a SSB radio with only a five digit counter, I move on.

    What do you like better the x9 or the 99 n2 ring to decide between these two

    • @TheRadioGarage
      @TheRadioGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tough choice. They are very similar. Comes down to if you want that extra output power of the n2

    Why is this one doing more average power even with a lower carrier than the RCI99n2’s you’ve done? The 99n2’s averaged like in the mid to high 30’s but had more peak by like 100 watts, shouldn’t they have more average power also?

    • @TheRadioGarage
      @TheRadioGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Has a top gun md-1 installed. That's why it's doing more avg power.

    Do they have mosfets or bipolars in the amp section? And how stable are they on sideband every Galaxy mobile that I have owned in the past I named it The drifter because it will not stay on frequency on sideband

      I don't see any reason why you would have a problem running it as a base.

    What does 300 percent modulation sound like compared to normal 90 to 100 percent modulation?
