As someone who played A LOT of battle of incantation while staying w/ my relatives for thanksgiving, I find that it helps to delay best discards by 1 draw if the discard is the drawn tile. this lets you maintain a continuous discard from hand chain all the way up until you no longer have enough tiles to do so, and then you pivot to draw discards which take less discards to rack up quickly. this also synergizes with riichi to maximize the value. the downside of doing this is it makes it very obvious when you are in tenpai, but that is kind of just this game mode in general
Ooh model UN was a great experience for me, met a lot of great people and the parties were nuts yeah. The conferences were genuinely stressful though, basically a 9-5 job draining my social battery. I get your sentiment. I did it in Uni and I got to rep Kahakhstan in the Security Council. Hmmm, now that you mention it, I dont think our somewhat low key Uni got one single signficant nation to rep 😂
I'm completely new so excuse my ignorant question, but why discard the 8 Bamboo to destroy the 7 8 9 meld? West had one discarded and you didn't Chii from East either, leaving only one 8 Bamboo in the pile at best? (Game 1 of the video)
This is a great question! What I'm doing here is folding, and I'm no longer trying to win this hand! The player across from me has called Riichi, so we know they're 1 tile away from winning, and the 8 of bamboo is one of my safer tiles (but in retrospect the 9 of bamboo would've been safer/better to throw). I don't want to chi because then I can no longer throw the 9 bamboo! And I don't want to go for the win because this hand has a really hard time "winning". The only way this hand is valid is if I get 7-8-9 mixed triple sequence, which is already dubious, and I would have to discard a TON of dangerous tiles to make this happen (including the Dora which is the Green Dragon!)
