- Footage from one of the 13 observed sections of the 200 or so miles of the 96th Landsend Trial. This event was first held in the 1910's and each Easter since, just stopping for the war years. The format remains mostly the same, no 4x4, and summer tyres only.
It may appear to some that people are out "wrecking" classic cars, but this is not the case. Older cars are better suited for this type of event as they are lighter with good ground clearance. Cars that would have been bought for peanuts many decades ago when most considered them old bangers, are still lovingly cared for and are still competing and winning on a regular basis. Some years you may be lucky and see original works MGs or Allards, still doing what they were built for, some knocking on 100 years later.
If you want to get involved 2wd X90s, MX5s and a few BMW models are some of the more modern cars now being used successfully and can be picked up cheaply at the moment. For details of how to take part go to the Motor Cyling Club (MCC) website. It is a really cheap , friendly, form of grassroots motorsport that is very easy to get involved in.
I love the older couple at 2:40, giving the valve springs a proper work out and having the time of their lives
7:09 too
It's funny seeing some of those cars that are valued pretty highly where I live get thrashed about in the woods - looks like a fun time
@ do you know the name of the car in minute 10:03¡¡??
Yeah, they're worth money here too, but no use just sat unused. Some of the vintage Bentley might be 100000 GBP.

Somebody once told me, " If you can reach out your window and touch the rear tire... It's a sports car."
This is probably the purest example of automobile sportsmanship I've seen! Looks like so much fun! :3
Love that definition of a sports car! I remember being given this advice when I bought a Honda RS 250 roadster single - after years riding British bikes.
"If you're commuting, keep the revs below 4,000 and she's a pussycat. When you're going for it, and the rev counter hits 8,000 - change DOWN!"
:)) Happy days . . .
From those of us who could not be there. Thank you.
As an American I'm not sure what half of these cars are, but they look awesome and it seems fun!
www.themotorcyclingclub.org.uk/rules-regulations/ Classes and regulations can find here.
Plenty of VW Bugs. I also spotted some Fiats, Triumphs and Fords. I know I've seen those cars that look like a Lotus before, but I can't recall the actual name. They might be kit cars.
I agree
@@cinekodakexp I believe it is the other way around, the Lotus 7 is based on these trial cars.
Beeing born in USA can hurt you so much. You don’t Inowrocław proper cousines, art, cultures, movies and cars
The true definition of 'grass roots' motorsport! Loving the marshal egging them on, highly entertaining!
2:31 the best 13 seconds in motorsports history!
A 70(+?) year old couple jumps their mini car on a trail and then runs into a tree. Laughing and smiling the whole time. "With a puncture!"
Hands down
🤣😅👍
Yes and that's why I'm still single I couldn't find a woman like that here they all been taken 😂
Sorry man 4:54 has it
It was a lovely Reliant Scimitar.
As a child of the 60-70's I used to love the Sunday afternoon movies on tv. One of my favorites was, The Great Race with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon. This race reminded me a lot of that spirit. Looks like fun!
Ford Pops rule! First time I've seen three in a single event. Light, short-wheelbase, easy to hot-up, and a decent-sized bouncer can rock the hell out of them. Perfect!
3:34 Great sound from the MK1 Escort. I had an MK2 for my first car.
7:44 beautiful as well
An mk2.
The old Vw beetles seem to do well , and the open back Landy , wow the Ford Anglian did brilliant, remember my dad had one of those in the early sixties he bought it for £40 and used to travel to Scotland from Birkenhead on jobs . Great fun video , I was willing everyone to make it without assistance, good fun enjoyed it as if I'd have been there .
Personally I believe this is what vehicles were intended for ! Good show of driving skills and proper tire inflation 👍
Real steep and really muddy! That's what I call a challenge
Once I've seen a challenge. Old Wehrmacht AWD vehicle with skinny tires an a steep hill.
The newer car with big wide all terrain tires did not get to the top (very small hill)
Old light small tires no problem
Didn't know this existed, this is amazing
O melhor offroad que já vi. top demais
I watched this at Beggers Roost many years ago, Great fun.
I wish we had this type of event in America!
We do! We have it in Dominican Republic... America is a whole continent dumbass
That blue anglia or popular sounds like it's got a rally car motor! Very cool stuff.
would bet on its been swapped for an escort motor or something like that, something more tuner friendly
That'll be my blue ford Pop,it's a 2.0 litre all alloy duratec engine on throttle bodies 👍
@@clivekalber3889I can see your Pop as a Swiss Army knife of hot rodding. Trials, some strip time, street use, what else? It even looks period.
@@chrishenniker5944 hi there, yes it's done all of that and also towed a caravan with it to Dorset steam fair,it's been a wedding car and I also went to France in it on holiday ,I believe in using a car all year round and with the modern engine and fuel injection it will produce near 40mpg ,I do also like to keep it looking like a proper Ford Pop.thanks for the message.
@@clivekalber3889 I can see Custom Car, Hot Rod Gazette and a few other publications being interested in it. It’s a sleeper, I actually like it.
That's great fun even just watching
2:41 happy how they still can enjoy one of those things
So awesome to see the J2 and PA plugging right along and motor right up that knoll!
This is so nice, i love the engines revving
This is a hidden gem
This looks like so much fun.
This looks like way to much fun 😁
Love it looks like great fun I am into four wheel drive but it is quite surprising what can be done with just rear wheel drive .
Having good tires and especially a rear engine (or front drive) is key
something special about pushing cars beyond theirs limits tho. 4wd would walk up that, no stress.
Perhaps the Suzuki X-90's sole motorsport use?
those beetles with heavy rear end really good with traction
Os besouros que você quis dizer são os Fusca
Looks like my driveway.
Amazing beetles have very little issues.
Great !!!!!!!
But stupid
As a VW enthusiast, I am not surprised at all by the fact that they had very little trouble on this course.
I love this , funny challenge especially with old cars 🚗
These guys are having so much fun. Just driving the crap out of these little cars
Having 2 Ford Pops I would like to know more about the 3 Pops (7.40 ->) - awsome sound! 1172cc sidevalve must be seriously hotted up, or??? Motorcycle engine perhaps..?
The red n blue pop did have a bonkers 2.0/2.4 duratec in it. All limiter n right boot!!
Yes the red/blue and blue Pops are Duratec, the black Pop is Ford X flow
I was driving the work Toyota hiace on roads like this two weeks ago no problems east coast forestry roads in Nz
Nice to see the Rover come up first and take rescue position.
Only 2WD drive cars are allowed to participate. Land Rover was car of organisers to help other not block the stage
I live in the ozarks in Missouri and this looks like the road i live on.
Do the crews get disqualified if they receive outside help on the track (such as towing)?
As for "wrecking classic cars" - perhaps some of them were in too poor condition to merit a full restoration, so it was decided to let them "go out in a blaze of glory" on the race track?
My eyes are blessed watching this 👀😇
Right! That's it! Where are the Dyane keys and my copy of Ici comence l'aventure?
Am surprised to not have seen a Citroen amongst them. The Africar used Citroen running gear off-road to great effect!
7:45 sounds amazing
Now this a motorsport I have never ever heard of 😦
In fact, quite a lot of these old cars weren’t cut out for this type of terrain
I beg to differ. Cars used to be built for abuse. Roads weren't that great in the old days.
Nowadays, manufacturers assume your average passenger car will never leave the pavement, and build them as such. T^T
Did you notice those old Ford Populars? Back when they were being built, it was NORMAL for minor country roads to be unsurfaced. That's why the 'Town & Country' tyre was invented.
It's always the older cars that make light work of it
Beautiful! Lovely site, too. 👍😄
Very interesting only 2 wheel drive vehicles, low ground clearance and very limited tread tires, are these the rules of this activity or are there classes with the different vehicles that participate? It would be rather fun to try it once!
You have a few suzuki x90s and a vitara which have a good 4 wheel drive system but must not be allowed to be used in this event 👍
@@slavwillisalmera9692 then any AWD would be banned from race?
The X90s used here are the 2wd version. I would image the Vitara has had the front prop shaft removed.
@@ApocGuy - yep; two wheel drive only, and no knobbly tyres.
If you'd do this in a Morgan 3-wheeler I'd be truly impressed!! Nevertheless, a joy to watch!
Thanks for sharing
A serious trip down memory lane
I would love to go to this where when next one looked great fun
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕🙂🤞✌
Have a look at www.actc.org.uk to find out more about Classic Trials
The Anglias re incredible.
@9.35 a Dellow, they were good on these type of trials
Normal roads: "you can't make a turn that wide"
This road: "I'm wider now"
great video!
omg. here are the cars as God want them to looks like!

@@amund9173 What doesn't?
What are these cars (blue & black) around 7'50 ?
Um dia normal voltando da chácara no domingo a tarde
Kkk e tipo isso mesmo cá Minas Gerais
Got so hyped looking at all those vw beetles making it.
Except this silver one at 6:20 he let out the gas a bit too early and the back wheel hit the slope at the wrong angle :/
-Other wise he would have made it.
What do I need and where do I sign up
is it a rule to fit Road Tires instead of fitting proper off roading tires?
Yes it is, summer tyres only.
The eternal universal winner of all times: VW Beetle
What a beatiful cars!!
Seems like fun... love it
Dunno what they are but I liked those open cockpit RWD cars with the guys sitting basically over the rear axle, and if it weren't overfenders, the tall skinny tires would probably chew up their arms.
What's up with all the two-wheel drive Suzuki x90s?
@tecdessus Hard to believe they sold any at all then. Four-wheel drive was the only thing it had going for it.
very interesting event!
I've never done a long distance trial. Do you walk the sections first or drive them blind? I have a 2wd gravel rally car with plenty of clearance, might have to have a crack sometime.
hell of a turn
It's fake taxi car?
Anyone know why most carry a couple tires on the back? I'll give you a hint: You'll see air hoses on mos.
And if you have a rear-wheel drive car, that extra weight over the back wheels gives you just that bit more traction.
I don't have a clue of what half of those cars are.
0:20-0:30 What's the make and model of that car?
i want to know too.
@@19tem Just found out! It's a Salamander Class 8 Special. Here's the details: classictrials.wordpress.com/2017/09/05/salamander-class-8-special-for-sale/

I second this comment
I watched the whole thing cause o that pop lol worth it want to do it yes

@Nick B - come up with evidence to PROVE that accusation, or STFU.
The blue and red pops have 2:0 Duratec engines and the black pop is 1600 crossflow, Blue Pop is mine and black pop is my dad.

Are those Vauxhall's?

We are from Canada whare do we sign up
Great stuff. I was wondering about the lack of remotely appropriate tires (outed myself perhaps?) until I read the rules someone posted. Seemed like everyone was running appropriately low pressures. I know these are very low power cars but seems like a lot of people should have gone for the next gear to get more wheel speed on the slick section before the big ramp. About the only one spinning em fast enough to clean out sounded like it had a zingy bike engine?! Anyways, looks amazing and I'd love to do something like this!!
The trouble with that camera placing is that it really doesn't show the gradient clearly - it's an optical illusion, but when you take a camera shot from that position, the slope always looks flatter than it really is. Not that I blame the camera operator - there's really nowhere else to go!
If the drivers had changed up a gear, they'd have stalled at the top.
@@jackx4311 Spoken like a man who's enjoyed the sport or the venue firsthand. Either way, color me jealous.
@@jackx4311 Bang on Jack about the gradient, you get so many comments about using a higher gear, but like you say most will stall as soon as you get grip in second. I drove my Subaru Outback up there during the clear up after all the competitors had gone through and even with 240ish BHP it wouldn't carry it with the traction control turned on, flew up though once I turned it off and got the wheels spinning a bit.
Lovely.
Epic! We should import this to Holland. We've got the mud. ;-)
But do you have hills ? hahaha
@@radiocontrolled9181 Damn, the highest point in the province of Noord-Holland is a 55,4 metres high dune. That's serious competition for Mt. Everest!
