Even beating I always wear a tie, think it just pulls the whole thing together. For certain events I'll wear certain ties, usually my pheasant tie but around rememberance I'll wear my old school tie to remember the old boys who passed in war.

Shooting is more than just discharging your shotgun at every moving thing. In Britain it is highly codified and based on ancient traditions. Dressing for a formal shoot is both good mannered and fun, and needn't be expensive. A lunch served from the tailgate of a Landover is one of life's great pleasures.

Basic shooting kit need not be OTT or ridiculously expensive. The goal is to be comfortable and well presented. Most UK country people have 75% of the recommended items in their closet. A full on duck shooting camo kit is rather expensive as well and looks just as ridiculous when taken out of context. Good on Mr. King for setting the bar high.

Just been on a simulated game day with my local gun club, we all got dressed up as if we were on a driven day, shirt tie mole skins made the day even better for me, good to look smart once in a while.

Absolutely no different to any other sport if you take that sport even semi seriously. Football = football kit and boots, Cycling = Lycra and cycling shoes. More likely that the negative comments are because the gentleman in the video is well spoken. Inverted snobbery.

All seems very reasonable to me, I shoot up 8-20 days a season all walk one stand one and rough shooting, while it doesn't really matter, someone's going to take the piss if you rock up in jeans " didn't you know we are shooting" or "have you just got in from your night out". For me cheap tweed breeks, socks, boots, shirt, tie and jumper, coat for the rain, hat if the dog hasn't mauled it. Whole outfit probably cost less than £100 quid. Wouldn't be up to scratch for a dandy but good enough for farming. Splash out on the boots just because I think it's worth doing so, boots cost over £200 as I need the ankle support but wellies did just fine for years.

All very sound advice and Mr King comes across as a thoroughly likeable sort…….personally though, I'm a little worried by this trend for ladies to turn up on the Gun-line with what appears to be an enormous stuffed fox on their heads, often complete with tail dangling down their nape. As most shoot instructions include "no ground game"…..what to do?

I know this may seem a highly silly question but... Do you think if I can book myself on a rather pricey shoot, I would be look at oddly as I'm a young non-white male? It's a question I've wondered about regarding racism. I'm sure everyone would be a gentleman/lady but it's something I'm worried about. I am an experienced shooter.

Race doesn’t matter anymore, in fact there’s a fair amount of people who would want to promote shooting and fieldsports to ‘non-white’ people as generally black people are cursed with being born in the city and get screwed from birth with growing up in a culture that promotes crime.

I cannot see myself "dressing up" to go shooting. It is interesting but seems conceited. However, I still find this tradition attractive.

    • @Hawks1980
      @Hawks1980 6 ปีที่แล้ว

No, although it depends on the shoot. Some are enormously expensive (thousands per person) if they are on prestigious estates and full hospitality etc. Other smaller shoots might only cost £200 - £500 for the day. Still relatively expensive but if you only go once or twice in a year it's certainly affordable if you want to do it.

well I guess it's all about tradition, however some of the people paying to shoot are complete wankers.
I used to be invited on a few shoots as I helped control foxes for the gamekeepers.
Some of the shooters were incredibly wealthy and very ordinary.
On the other hand some shooters had lots of money and were complete tossers.
you can wear clothes that blend in with the countryside and no-one takes any notice.

Hmm. So, you're saying that if you were not fortunate enough to grow up in a traditional British shooting environment (where you learn simply by being inundated and don't need it explained), you're not welcome? That if you can't "get it right" intuitively, you shouldn't try?
      Right. Got it.

alot of people that shoot are normal and ordinary country folk. I for one walk up hedgerows with a dog and wear a £10 shirt, cheap fleece and hiking trousers. On formal days, a shirt tie, breeks and wellies and a decent coat is the attire though 99% of those who live/work in the country will already have most items needed

PuddinJr1993 this isnt true british hunting imo, this is rich posh ppl acting like there something special, they pay a lot off money to have ppl chase the game (that 9 times out of 10 has been raised especially for it,) to them, that isnt hunting. getting out in your camo, stalking your prey, learning your pray and ultimately bagging and eating your pray is true hunting.

    • @elcranstinoo3259
