This album proves Gaahl is the best black metal vocalist. Hes uses so many different styles and it all works and fits into one. Best black metal I've heard in a long time.

Saw them live yesterday, I was a bit apprehensive at first because I saw Gaahl as a bit of a meme but they put on a hell of a show. Gaahl also shook pretty much everyone's hand in the front row and stuck around talking to people for a long time after the show, pretty cool guy.

What a wild trip this album is. So much to discover, it definetely needs some turns to get into it but its worth the time. Very, very interesting album.
Really didn't know what to expect from this album, but this turned out to be one of the more original, dynamic contributions to 'Black' Metal that I have heard in a while. The melodies are strung together really nicely, and stick out beautifully, almost to where they sound a bit cacophonous, but in a tasteful manner. Will definitely be coming back to this.

I can already see this being in so many top-of-the-year lists. I know for sure it will be in mine, as this is an outstanding release. The composition and emotion of this album is really something unique. At times it reminds me of early Emperor while still sounding fresh and modern. Gaahl wrote a masterpiece here.

Hm, so after ignoring the band for so long, thinking it may as well just be a repeat of Gaahl's Gorgoroth days (I liked Pest and Hat more, personally), I must admit, this was completely unexpected, and so different from what he's done before. More melodic, atmospheric, it's almost got a trance-like atmosphere that, of all things, reminds me of Aptorian Demon, Borgne, and some Blut aus Nord for some reason, and the vocals? Well, again, after Gaahl was so one-note back in Gorgoroth compared to this, I would have never expected such a performance. He's a beast here, just amazing. Will be definitely watching their progress more carefully from now on, this sets a high bar as far as I'm concerned, and it's incredibly refreshing due to its uniqueness, despite getting reminded of other (great) bands. Black metal truly works wonders when it's slower as opposed to aggressive. Unsurprisingly, that also tends to work better for death metal, too.
Really, this is up there with Pink Floyd or summat on on the grandiosity scale, no matter how many times I listen to it theres always so much more I"m missing.
No me cup of tea, but refreshing in constrast of all Black/blackfolk metal in these days. It has its own spine. might be crooked (from my perspective) but its own unique and solid.
i would love to hear some recommendations in that particular genre. I've found that as of late I'm more into ambient black and funeral doom as I've grown bored of death doom to be frank.
In all seriousness, brilliant , innovative and genuinely dark. The only album that if I fall asleep listening with phones on gives me nightmares. Only from the mind of a murderer. I'd challenge Pantomime dame Dani Filth to ever achieve that!

Didn't know black could have so many shades, this is darkness at its best.
I haven't been into black metal for many many years, but this album brings back the sounds I used to enjoy and makes me relive those emotions again..
