Going to be very unpopular here but Honeyman gets a lot of hate for someone who is being played out of position. But going on stats matches up with de Norre and Saville in tackles and beats them in goals and assists. De Norre and Saville beat Honeyman in blocks but that is all down to positions they play. Feel he is being made a scapegoat as everyone wants Esse in the 10. Don’t get me wrong Honeyman should not be a number 10 but by stats is pretty much on par with the two golden boys. Great show lads!

I agree Steve, GH played well when playing deeper. The hate he is getting is purely because he’s in the 10. With his energy and pressing I think he’d give us a lot in the middle of midfield.

Honeyman is a CM and if you ask him where he would want to play, he’ll say CM too.

@ 100% mate but I’m baffled at the amount of hate he gets. His stats is on par with CDN and Sav and has the same goal contributions as Esse. I just feel he is getting so much hate due to he is being played in the no 10 instead of Esse. Bit harsh when he gives it all on the pitch. Also credit due for not only his goal but also the involvement towards making the 2nd goal possible.

@ I wouldn’t say anyone “hates him” as such. But he has big boots to fill in taking over Zian Flemming’s position. In the 10 you need to be smashing in goals, creating lots of assist and linking up well with the lone striker. To score 2 and get 3 assists in 23 games so far this season isn’t a lot when you’re in the prime position to do better. Esse has only played there twice and had scored just 1 I think (vs Norwich) but seems to be able to link better with the players around him and is much better on the ball to create more chances. Honeyman seems better off the ball and works hard but doesn’t create much. Couldn’t Honeyman do that in CM instead alongside Casper instead?

Excellent show as ever. For me, the reason Esse is a cut above many others of a similar age at Championship level is because he is able to spot a pass before even receiving the ball. Conversely, he is unpredictable with the ball at his feet. We'd do well to remember he is currently performing well in a team low on confidence and quality. Ivanovic showed glimpses of promise yesterday whilst feeding off of scraps with little or no support. Imagine we had spent £2.5m on Esse and all we had to judge him on was last seasons performances; we'd hardly be ecstatic. Fast forward to this season and Esse has improved immeasurably. I can't help but think the Ivanovic signing is being used as a stick to beat Gallen with. Leonard, McNamara, Saville and Honeyman to stay as long as the wages are right for what might be bit-part players next season. As for Wednesday, I'm stunned that Beadle is on the books of a Premier League club given his short-comings; he has afterall played circa 80 professional matches. Perhaps the shaky Wednesday defence would benefit from a steady commanding GK to organise them.

The discussion about the players out of contract and who to keep demonstrates how much needs to be done to get the team to a level to compete in the Championship.
In my view it just reinforces and confirms how much the club has been woefully negligent over the last few seasons or so in the recruitment of new players. With one or two exceptions the age and quality of player recruited has not improved the quality of the team to any great extent if at all. As a result we now have too many players at an age who are either past their best or simply just not good enough.
To me it just illustrates again how critical it is that we make the right decisions and signings in the next few transfer windows, including the current one. At the same time we need to use some of the younger players that are in the squad at the moment together with blooding in any of the youngsters from the under 21's if they are considered to be ready to make the step up.
The board have publicly stated what their strategy is and the way forward for the club and they now need to demonstrate their commitment to this. If they do then hopefully with Alex Neil at the helm we can look forward to better times with a team capable of pushing for a play off place and thereafter who knows.

Wednesday fan tried his best to pretend he was balanced but failed miserably. Gave us zero credit. The Fact NONE of you pulled him up about that “boring Chant” comment is disappointing. Especially when it’s from a fan whose fans use a drum and trumpets. Their atmosphere was SHOCKING yesterday. No noise at all bar a brief trumpet blow and bang of a drum.

Honeyman over Savs, Lennie a one year extension. Time for change as I don’t know another team in all leagues that would still be playing players that have been there 6 years plus. Alex deserves a clean sweep built upon Jenson, Cooper, De Norre, as the spine.

I’m keeping Danny as you couldn’t let both him and Lenny go.
I think Honeyman is an awkward one because of where he is being played. Neil is going to have to work that out and if he keeps playing him as a 10 then I don’t think he’ll stay.
Saville stays as backup for Kelly and for the dressing room.
    Then I’m struggling.
    Great show again

The one would be Danny Mac, we've kept so many older players in the past and it slows down progression from the youth set up.

I think this summer is a great opportunity to clear the decks, let the new gaffer bring in his own players, keep Lenny & Danny Mac as squad player, others can all leave.

What happened to Neil’s declaration that he was going to be looking at all our players, before deciding what positions needed targeting and which players needed to go or be loaned out? I was really hoping that Neil would start two from the three of Mitchell or Kelly or Wintle over Saville and De Norre, but my heart sank when I saw the team sheet and the line up hadn’t changed!
Apart from his free kick contribution that lead to Honeyman getting our equiliser, neither he nor De Norre had done anything up till then to warrant both of them still being on the pitch. Neil could have brought fresh legs on after we’d made it 1-1, but no, he left Saville and De Norre on!
And when is Adam Mayor going to get his chance? With Emakhu and Watmore out injured why didn’t Neil bring on Mayor instead of a not fully fit Azeez, who couldn’t have given us the 100% he usually does?
Surely an experienced manager like Neil knows the benefit of squad rotation, especially when his side has so many games to play over a short space of time? I’d love him to start Wintle against Hull, if nothing else because he can take a free kick better than anyone else in the first 11 at the moment. Our starting 11 has looked bereft of confidence since the Oxford away game, so isn’t now the time to shake things up a bit, and bring in some of the fringe players to see if they can bring that confidence back?
My three to keep would be Lenny (can play RB and CH), Danny (can play RB, CH and LB) and Honeyman (but only in midfield, not as a 10). Yes, Danny will be 27 this December, and both Lenny and Honeyman at the start of next season will be 33 and 31 (almost) respectively, but all three are experienced at this level. We know Neil values experience so I would keep them and maybe rotate them next season with their eventual successors so they all get game time.

In Alex Neil's defence he hasn't been blessed with a great deal of time on the training ground since being appointed. Hopefully the next couple of weeks will give him the time he needs to assess the squad ahead of the close of the transfer window. It would have been peculiar if he made sweeping changes so early on. He even intimated that the first couple of games were too early for him to make informed changes with regards personnel.

    • @andrewroberts299
      @andrewroberts299 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@mjw_S61 I get that, but if Neil wants to assess the likes of Mayor, Kelly, Massey, Leahy etc. he doesn’t need to give them a start. Instead he could bring them on with, say, 30 minutes left (especially if those on the pitch are struggling in the same like for like positions) and see how they fare in an actual game. Neil is going to have a better idea who he can use, lose or go out on loan, watching them in an actual game than just seeing them put through their paces at the training ground.
What was the point of paying Celtic £400,000 to bring Kelly in at the start of the season, and he’s only really got one 45 minutes under his belt in the Cup game against Portsmouth! We could have saved that money and brought him in on Jan 1st for nothing (as was the original idea). Celtic must be pissing themselves laughing having mugged us off like that!
£400,000 could have gone towards buying a new player in this transfer window, or be used to pay the likes of Tango and Esse more money to keep them sweet and show them how valued they are and maybe help to keep them at the club for the rest of the season? As it is, the club has spunked away £400,000 for no return whatsoever!

@@andrewroberts299I genuinely don't understand the rush in blooding the likes of Kelly and Massey. Their time will come if and when they are good enough. We reportedly paid £400k plus add-ons for Kelly to sign him early rather than wait until January and pay £275k or thereabouts. This of course meant we could get the deal over the line before being potentially gazumped by another club. Sensible business, surely? Rewind to Azeez's first few appearances and 'fans' were doubting him and look where we are now. Let's have some patience with the youngsters and trust the judgement of the recruitment and coaching staff.

@@andrewroberts299I don't understand the rush to play Kelly and Massey. Do they immediately come into the team ahead of Wintle and Mitchell? We've not 'spunked' £400k on Kelly. We reportedly paid £400k plus add-ons to sign him in August instead of £275k in January. If we had held off what is to say that he wouldn't have signed a contract elsewhere? We need to have patience with the youngsters and trust the judgement of the recruitment and coaching staff, surely?

If we want to move on and evolve as a team then Lenny has to move on and be replaced with a much younger Right Back who can get up and down the pitch and offer us more in the attacking third with creating chances and overlap the winger. Sav is on the decline and so is Hutch and Wallace, and not good enough for the championship. Wes not up to this level either.
I’d renew Honeyman and offer Danny Mac a contract purely as cover or to be a squad player.
