      Stéphanie FORT あと、細かいようだけど、箏に対して正面ではなく、左斜め45度に座るのが正式なのと手と爪の角度が自然と弦に対して垂直になるので試してみてください、もう直してたらごめんね

I'd never heard anything quite like this. A western white woman playing a Japanese Traditional Song. I've heard it played many times by Japanese Musicians on Koto, and they are pretty much copacetic for the Japanese Genre. This woman has a very western style of playing and is adding rhythm to the song that isn't there. This really changes the mood and the structural sound of the original song, which I prefer. She has added a "Western White Accent" to the music and it doesn't sound Japanese. At least, not to my ear.
The Japanese people playing Koto do NOT respond to their music the way that westerners do. They play the music without interjecting or adding their own flare, their own ego, or their own emotions. Their goal is for the music to speak for itself. Any emotions contained in a piece of music were put there by the composer, who had a preferred method for how his or her composition should be played, and perhaps more importantly, how it should sound. Japanese Musicians always did their best to play the piece as intended, and worked hard to keep their own ego from being a part of their performance.
They have, or had a deep love for music and the composers of their music. They held the music as they did many of their customs with a reverence and tempered ego.
I've gotten to know a few Japanese People from Japan, and had very close friends who were Japanese Descent, aka "Japanese Americans." They have tremendous egos. But they all have something in common. A reverence for their traditional customs, culture and music. To them, adding their own flare and improvisation to an old and well established piece was something they seemingly abhorred because it meant they were putting their ego ahead of the music. They approached and played music with respect and a reverence that is rarely seen in musicians, especially musicians of today.
This woman's performance of this venerable old song was heavily tainted with her personal ego as she tried adding her own style and interpretation to it. Her playing was good, but her interpretation was awful, and it did not sound Japanese. The only things Japanese about her playing were The Koto she used, the finger picks and the song itself. The rest was all her, and I was not impressed.

Are you sure about that? Because if that is the case, then you would NOT like the works of Tadao Sawai or Dai Fujikura, who are JAPANESE composers whose works do not use traditional Japanese ways of playing. There are many renditions of Sakura, Sakura that have been improvised upon by Japanese musicians on the koto. Is that a bad thing? Michio Miyagi also incorporated western musical influences in his works too. Was he evil for that?
Now, instead of race-bating and focusing on this talented woman’s skin color, why dont you quit being a weeaboo and open up your heart a little and realize the fact that art is ever evolving and always receives influences from outside cultures. We are more connected nowadays, so even Japanese people incorporate western musical styles in their art, vice-versa. All you do is make baseless and thoughtless criticisms that have nothing to do with art, and yet you have nothing to show for-no works of your own! If you dont like it, you dont have to listen to it. You see, the joke is on YOU for forcing yourself to listen to this performance that you think is awful, therefore undergoing such an awful experience for yourself. You are in desperate need of mental help! No sane person would ever put themselves through self-induced torture.
I also think that you are a fool if you think that Japanese people do not “change” their musical culture. Traditional Japanese music today is drastically different from Japanese traditional music 1000 years ago, and even to get to where it is today, it went through drastic changes throughout its history. Your psychological problem is belittling others just to feel better about YOUR ego. The fact that you engage in this talented woman’s color of skin is already enough proof that you have nothing valuable to offer.
As for you Stephanie, this rendition of Sakura, Sakura was lovely! I enjoyed it. I wish you the best in your musical journey!
