Carmen, that's true they are 5 voices so they always bring songs to a different level. Did you know Mitch covered Power by Billie (not with PTX but by himself)? You have to check this one out! But be warned - you won't be able to pause. It's a masterpiece
Done during Covid lockdown. Mitch also entertained the entire neighborhood by singing "Your Power" on his rooftop. Voice of an angel floating on the air . . .
During Covid. Mitch wanted to honor Billie by singing “ Your Power” on his roof top. It’s astoundingly beautiful. I cannot recommend it enough. ❤❤❤❤. I cry every time I listen to it
I had to laugh (with delight) at your comment about Mitch's cover being "astoundingly" beautiful. Now, we've all been Mitch-slapped, like, 3,000 times, so how can we still be "astounded"? It CAN"T be a surprise anymore, can it? We know exactly how good he is, we know that voice, we know what he can do, so we're not astonished anymore, right? And then--Oops, he did it again. Unbelievable.
I really adore their upgrade of this, and I agree, there's just something about Mitch's lower register (although, honestly, there's just something about hisnwhole voice, really). The way he and Scott switch off in is too is so good. Some songs where you get to hear Mitch with that gorgeous mid-lower register: The Graveyard (just Mitch) Find You (Mitch with Evan Duffy on piano) Amazing Grace Ride Royals Where Are Ü Now My Heart With You (stunning 5 part harmony) La La Latch (all around awesome mashup imo) Happy Now (original) Take On Me (no music vid, not one of my fave covers of theirs, but figured it needed mentioning because there's a moment where Mitch's voice just tingled spine) Mad World & Cheerleader (You've already reacted to) (Three PTX originals with no music videos) - Bored Side Never Gonna Cry Again New Rules x Are You That Somebody (no lead for Mitch but lower backing vocals, and some stunning bass & percussion work from Matt & Kevin) Honorable mention: Praying (lower ranged Scott in a far too underrated song, no vid.) There's also a few Sup3rfruit (Mitch & Scott's channel/group, sadly dormant for a few years now though) originals, when you get to the point you're ready to dive into them. They're not a capella at all, and all the tracks except 1 have music videos.
Those of us who were Leonard Cohen, Queen, and/or Simon and Garfunkel devotees were also nervous to hear PTX covers; that ambivalence of loyalty yet hope for artistic rebirth is what makes watching reactions of covers, in particular, appealing. I trusted your honesty - did not think you'd judge either the original nor the cover harshly.
Mitch's cover of Power by Billy will blow you away...hauntingly beautiful!! Another song Mitch uses his lower register is in Mad World. Another one that will have your eyes going wide and mouth dropping open!! The harmonies are insane!!
Hi Carmen!! When they perform 5 part harmony (no beatbox), Kevin also sings 1st tenor down to bass, so Scott can sing his normal baritone through bass range. We get exquisite harmonies we don't normally get to enjoy. This is a COVID lock down song, it was arranged (by the ensemble?), then each person performed their track and recorded their video in their homes. Their sound engineer brought the audio together while the video editor put the visuals in place. Their At Home EP is worth a listen from beginning to end. I'd enjoy seeing you react, even to songs you've already heard.
SAME girl, SAME!! I absolutely ADORE Billie and FINNEAS but also am a diehard Pentaholic, so I totally felt the conflict you were battling before watching this. I went through the same thought process, but I also know PTX are ALWAYS so respectful of every piece they cover and yet again through this cover, they displayed why I love them so much. GREAT REACTION!!! ❤
"... can do things Billie and Fineas cannot do ..." *having watched some behind-the-scenes (Carpool Karaoke) of their mixing techniques* What Fineas would say if he heard the challenge: "Hold my beer ..."
Hi. I don’t comment often to people but just wanted to say I love watching your reactions as they are honest and heartfelt and I can feel you really appreciate the music and what Pentatonix does. Thx
REACTION ALERT: You should definitely check out Home Free. They are on the level of Pentotonix. They are an acapella country group. They do a great rendition of Elvira with the Oak Ridge Boys which is just fun. Tim Foust, their bass, has worked with Avi Kaplan and is spectacular.
Actually Kirstin is singing the highest parts- she is harmonizing though so our minds want to focus on the soloist and melody. Mitch’s lower range is beautiful and I actually prefer it to his high notes
Wonderful reaction! This was done during the pandemic, and they were all in their homes recording their parts, which seems like it would be very difficult, especially when there is such tight harmony. By the way, I believe that was Kirstie doing the higher range in the second verse, not Mitch. She can reach those notes a little clearer than he does, but it can be hard to tell sometimes. As other have suggested, please be sure to react to Mitch's cover of Billie's song Your Power. It's wonderful.
kevin is not doing bass matt is only doing bass only scott doing bass when matt sings. kevin can't do bass matt can do beatboxing parts on havana and joyful joyful when kevin rap matt beatbox the same in butter x dynamite mashup.
Kevin does not do the bass at all. He is a tenor in Mitch’s range (more or less). You are confusing things because his most common function is as beat boxer.

Someone else just commented that as well, I’m so curious to see that one! 😊
Yes, yes !! Carmen ,please do react to Mitch’s cover of Your Power.

Billie has seen this video. Apparently Kevin knows Billie's brother who showed it to her and said she liked it.

Just gorgeous 🔥❤️🙌
This has always been a top ten PTX song for me. I’m so glad you enjoyed it.

This is one of my favorites so so good

As a fan of both (no disrespect to Billie) but the different tones in the PTX version just brings me to tears.

Exactly, they make it their own and it was beautiful 💛
💯
have you seen that mitch did a solo cover of your power?
This is my current fave PTX song...which means I listen to it every day. Incredible! Thanks for reviewing it Carmen.
And if you would like to hear Mitch in his lover register check Find you (with Evan Duffy) ❤
"... can do things Billie and Fineas cannot do ..."

What Fineas would say if he heard the challenge: "Hold my beer ..."
This performance was my entree to Billie and Finneas' music. I love PTX for many reasons. That not least among them. Thank you for this reaction.
Dear Carmen!
Youneed to watch Mitchs solo cover of YOUR POWER!

Not an easy song...apprehension is expected.
You should check out Diana Ankudinova,Vanny Vabiola, and Angelina Jordan.

I know Kevin doesn’t do the bass, I just meant them together are the base of the arrangement 🙂
Id like to suggest Neverland, by Zendaya, official video. Beautiful.
Kevin does not do the bass at all. He is a tenor in Mitch’s range (more or less). You are confusing things because his most common function is as beat boxer.
I meant the base line. I’m not talking about the bass in singing terms, but the foundation for the song to build on 🙂
