Having played the violin for over 20 years, I never knew you could expand the violin's sound so much with these techniques.... Now to get the money to afford these neat additions :)
Sent this to my 11 yr old son. He is learning violin. Absolutely the hardest instrument to learn. Zero margin for error and so easy to make awful noise. She plays beautifully and makes it look effortless
Hi Adam...I've realized that you made this comment 2 yrs ago. Is your son still learning the violin? Yes it's hard, but lots of fun! I started 3 tears ago as an adult with no teacher whatsoever. Figured out how to loop and electrify, which kept my interest sky high (so much fun!) I use different gear though. Anyhow....if your son still plays, tell him to check out TwoSetViolin here on TH-cam. Cheers! 🙂
I realize this was 6 years ago. But was waiting for the Big Muff pedal to kick on with that delay and reverb. And maybe a slow phaser. And then a pulsing tremolo. Time to show my daughter all my guitar pedals for her viola!
Awesome video. Watched it so many times. On the back of it I brought the micro POG and the line6. Both are awesome. Use both in all my violin loops/tunes etc. Great for ambient music. Great new sounds to explore and play with... Thanks for posting.
OMG! I have an acoustic violin and it's my first pedal board...I am doing the same with the reverb but I didn't knew why I was doing it!! I was feeling by ear the richness of my EQ without knowing the reason. Thanks for that hahaha
Great video! I'm trying to make such set but What about using an audio-technica atm350 mic or dpa mic on violin instead of pickup? Do you think you would get a more acoustic and characteristic sound from your violin?
A good trick with octave pedals is to make the dry and sub octaves at full volume and the octave up with some volume but not too much, make it hard to notice but make it be y there... It makes it sound like the octave up from the violin is actually the harmonics ringing out naturaly, and if you do doublestops it sounds so f*ckin' awesome
such a beautiful amplified violin sound ive heard a lot of set ups/sounds.. and yours is wonderful ..and have decided to go with your.. SHERTLER STAT V..or..B.. bridge pick up/preamp.. set up...can you please tell me which one it is.. and which bridge pick up you are using....as it does not seem to be the typical one that comes with the STAT V or B set up... the video doesn't show the pick up that clearly..so im not sure ...thank you
which effect on the Lime 6 M5 is Rebecca Faber using ? i like it a lot ? which setting or effect at the end of the video is it ? Was it "Seeker" preset ? or ... ? Thank you ! Philippe
Hello ma’am, this video was very informative and I was amazed by it. I would like to know if there is any processor/pedal or sound sampler or a combination of both that could produce a string ensemble sound through a violin.
Loved this video! :) Everyone needs to listen to the band 'Doctors Of Madness' for the pioneer of electric violin. The violinist in the band is known as Urban Blitz. I recommend them to everyone. The song 'Mainlines' is my favourite, but I also would encourage people to listen to 'Brothers', 'Suicide City' and 'Out' as well. Happy jamming everyone! :)
Wow , the 4th minute sounds like 3 violins .I've got to do this .People would love to hire a trio for the price of one ! Electrin violin or acoustic with pedal can do what a pianists's left hand does. It's tme for me to do these great things ! Exciting compositional and playing world is opening up !!! She has a great german instrument the sound is memorable and luscious !
Use the harmony on the Digitech Whammy, add reverb, and do swells on a volume pedal (I don't know for sure, but that's how Ed O'Brien makes his guitar sound like a string section).
Hi! awesome video! I would just like to ask if this setup can also be done with this Cherub WCP-60V Violin Pickup. Here in our country it's really difficult to find the pickup that you are using. Thanks! and I hope to hear from ya
Cherub is really low-quality pickup. This is not worth it. You can buy your Schertler via amazon, ebay or something like that ;) I'm using the LR Baggs pickup, works well too
I had absolutely no idea that violinists use pedals??? I’m a guitarist and I thought we were the only cool ones using pedals. Violinists got into the act too?? 😮 Wonderful video and you certainly can play, Thank You! (After 28 years on guitar and always preferring just to plug straight in, I finally bought my first pedal a few weeks ago, the BD-2 Blues Driver pedal.)
Some types of pedals don't jive well with a violin (ex. chorus) but generally speaking, reverb, delay, octave, and distortion are great. I use the same pedals for my guitar as I do for my violin.
A bass pedal will be voiced for the frequencies more than a guitar pedal. A guitar isn't quite as high as a violin but it will do better than a bass pedal.
A few friends of mine have been using guitar pedals on violin since the late 70's. The mainstream has been very slow to catch on, probably because the guitar was so dominant for so long. Now that the guitar is passe, many kids hate the sight of it. I asked some kids why they hated the sight (and sound) of guitars, and they said, "They remind us of those annoying bums in front of licquor stores," aka buskers. The industry is still pushing the electric guitar, but the public has pretty much moved on. I played in bar bands from the 70's until the 90's. Today? All the venues are gone, you couldn't BUY a gig if your life depended on it.
it's an instructional video. If it really bother you that much, just skip through the talking. It is way easier and quicker than putting a complaint comment about talking in an educational video.
this is one of the best Reverb vids yet- so refreshing to take a break from blues riffs.

And the toughest learning curve. Guitar is easy to sound good in a month. A violin takes years.
As a violinist I can confirm. You never stop learning and improving!
Hope your son falls in love with it!
*laughs in oboe*

don't forget the whole family of violin instruments.
wow, the sub octave on the POG worked much better than I expected!
+Kelvin Reynolds Yes, it really works well!
+Kelvin Reynolds i would love to see it with a POG2 tho, the all-up organ sound must be interesting!
Rad!
Oh Hi, +Rob Scallon !
Tha hell are you doing here Rob? :)
The guy's a compulsive multi-instrumentalist, he just can't help himself. ;)
Rob Scallon Lol rob searching for another instrument XD you play learned 100 instruments
Rob Scallon shut up
2:01 OMG I want to see her play the whole thing of this. sooooo freaking beautiful. Such a talented Violinist. amazing
This makes me want to learn the violin..
This video is such an inspiration. I find myself always coming back to it.
I realize this was 6 years ago. But was waiting for the Big Muff pedal to kick on with that delay and reverb. And maybe a slow phaser. And then a pulsing tremolo. Time to show my daughter all my guitar pedals for her viola!
Just starting to incorporate some pedals and distortion into my electric fiddle repertoire... This vid is EXACTLY what I was looking for
I bought a micro pog after watching this. Really excited to use it with my DL4!! Thank you

You're just Amazing ! Wow.

Sounds great...going to get into this...Thanks Rebecca
Best electric sounding pickup I've heard.
This was so cool, I didnt know you could electrify an acoustic violin like that
I do feel the same! Super inviting demo
I want to try this with my violin now.
Put a fuzz on it.
+BioFeld the demo video for Jack White's TMR Bumble Buzz record has a violin demo and its just sick, check it out!
no thanks. listening to this.
Put a...gated velcro fuzz on it...so no noise or feedback, but huge tone
Jessica Pavone puts fuzz on her viola
Electrified violins already sounds too fuzzy if you ask me. That G string sounds like a fart on a rubber band.
I really like the way you explain; clear cut. I need those equipments, where do I get it?
this sound so epic!
So many bags of awesome in this
2:50 sounds like the beginning of an epic movie.
4:37 I really love that.
its really superb ideas for the violin player...

Does the pedal have to hook to a amp to work

Hi! the sound with the pog, is the same with pog 2? its any difference with the new nano? thanks!
There's a new where she explains the difference between the 3 pog pedals that exist. Search "Using ehx pog with violin"
Cool instrument for Post Rock.
I would love to have one. It is not available in India.
If I was to attempt to make a violin sound like a full orchestral strings section how would you suggest going about this?
Use the harmony on the Digitech Whammy, add reverb, and do swells on a volume pedal (I don't know for sure, but that's how Ed O'Brien makes his guitar sound like a string section).
at 3:03 is that an actual song or something you made up?
Can u plse tell me the cost if buy buy while in Qatar or if want to buy while in India. I too have a Jerman violin. Thank u
Great Vid!
Are you Using an acustic violín ?
which model Shertler Pickup are you using?
Can the non-effects driven acoustic sounds coming naturally off the violin be heard while playing?
Hyde G. Depends on how loud your amp is. Otherwise of course.

Get bad snacks on a Reverb video.
what kind of effect is on minute 2:09 ??? please someone help me if is only reverb ??? the kind ????
Hey Eric! It's a combination delay on the Line 6 DL4 and also reverb from the amp.
How much money this item
pretty cool.
That was so cool.
Love!
is that guitar pedal eff ? can i use guitar reverb pedal for violin? please answer my question thanks
Yes it is technically a guitar pedal effect, but you can try out any pedal on an electrified violin, especially reverb!
Thanks for the answer...i appreciate it...
Some types of pedals don't jive well with a violin (ex. chorus) but generally speaking, reverb, delay, octave, and distortion are great. I use the same pedals for my guitar as I do for my violin.
+Alex Price And, coult it work the same way, with a bass guitar pedal? Or is a bass too different from a violin?
A bass pedal will be voiced for the frequencies more than a guitar pedal. A guitar isn't quite as high as a violin but it will do better than a bass pedal.
Brava!!! WOw!
get an octaver delay on that. Like the canyon.
why bow so tight? Need to have curve
What guitar is that hiding in the back, I need to know!
Yeah! Great!
That's sick. Electrifying and putting effects on a violin from the 1850s??
love it

amazing my man, the rock is pretty much dead cheers from Brazil!
Dam she got great sound! We were going to offer our audio controlled synths but it'll be a shame to replace such great acoustic sound.
She is beautiful 😘
The Australian Upward Inflection...
Put a korg miku
If you thought this was cool, check out Andrew Bird's live performances.
no thanks..this is very good.
Man, can he whistle!
That intro, lol
$10 to whoever uses a violin with the misty cave pedal
There is phfff sound on that pedal.
damn line6 sponsored...
sacreligious
She needs a pedalboard setup class. If you only have 1 delay/loop you aren't going to put it at the end of your effects loop.
too much talking

Cool stuff!
