Cool video love the little Roller , I must say I generally prefer my double bands ,but I have a 700mm that I like to go shooting in the kelp with just so much easier to move around in the kelp so it might be good to convert that. What you think?
I think that would be a great idea Dominic. My mini roller is a convert 500, cool gun but bit of a gimmick. At a 700 size it would be a really effective spear launcher. If your converting a rob Allen the process is very straight forward and easy but you will need to make your own bands as you likely won’t find any 70cm roller bands off the shelf. Would be a great project for a lazy afternoon. Let me know how you get on ✌️😉
Spear width is 6.6mm and length is like 59cm. Short shaft doesn't need to be 7mm as it is very unlikely to bend at that length. 14mm bands from memory or maybe 16mm, 14mm is my preference nowadays.
Hey dude. At the time I was working at a dive shop so got the equipment at a discounted rate. The spearg*n was $250 retail and the roller head $200 retail so approximately $450 before bands and labor. Nowadays rob Allen sells 700 rollers but some thing this size and your doing it yourself. Not a cheap toy but good fun. If your looking at doing it yourself it is much easier to align everything if your barrel has a rail. This one does not and getting it dialed in was a nightmare lol, many missed fish. Thanks for the comment Orca, all prices are in NZD
Thanks mate. Mini roller is a conversion I did on a rob Allen scorpia 500, barrel length is approximately 50cm. Something different but lots of fun to use
Hey mate. I came across your video today. I've got spear guns and curious about pole spear. Would you recommend or stick with just speargun?? I shore dive only. Cheers
If you want to refine your technique and challenge yourself get a polespear. It is extremely rewarding but equally difficult and can be very frustrating. I would say give it a go with something cheap before getting some proper equipment because it’s not for everyone and you could hate it. However given that you asked the question you clearly have a budding interest so follow it and see where it takes you!
Yea dude, I love mine. For what I use it for it is usually more than enough room. It's big enough for all but kingfish, that said I have put one in mine on multiple occasions. The tail sticks out but buoyancy is no issue. I have been offered to swap for a larger model but I declined, it does everything I want it to do and isn't a hassle to drag up the beach
@@BlueNeoprene ahh yep. I was looking at the larger one but it’s 5kg heavier and the smaller one would be much easier to take around rocks for a shore dive.
It depends what you are hunting and where. Heavy for bigger fish, harder to use. Lighter smaller fish, less hassles. That pole is reasonably heavy, overkill for I fish I hit that time around.
@@BlueNeoprene Thanks. I'm thinking I need 14mm ish pole for small fish when I can't get out and use my gun--but not sure if the same spear can be used as a back up if I shoot bigger fish that runs (or just a bad shot). 18mm might be better but that one is also 230cm long and I don't know if I can deal!
Hello, the rubber on my polespear was certainly too long. I since made adjustments and it worked better but I no longer have the back section so it doesn't get much action nowadays.
Great video and advice. I like how you keep it real.
I believe 1person can make a difference awesome video bro
Thank you, I believe so too! Even you comment has made a difference to me, much appreciated.

very good bro, nature brings the sea
Nature does indeed bring the sea, the sea brings the nature also?
What is the spear width and length you are using and also what width are the bands - 14 mm?

Where was this, it looks like an awesome spot with great visibility and some good fish.
East Coast Coromandel, if you want a more specific answer you should send me a private message ;)
Premo bro just wondering how you remove the flesh from the cooks turban?
I boil the whole shell in water first and then use a tool to remove the snail from the shell. Can be tricky at times
@@BlueNeoprene sweet bro I'm gonna give them a try
Yo, I loved your vid, you earned my sub. How much did your original gun cost before turning it into a rollergun and how much did the conversion cost

Nice video my friend ! 🤙🤙🤙
The sneals are quite tasty 😋.
What is the size of your mini roller ?
Thanks

@@BlueNeoprene Thank you very much for you reply my friend 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻it seems indeed a quite accurate and fun little roller speargun 👍
I subscribed 👍

How do you like the mini float boat? Is it big enough to hold a decent amount of fish?

heey.. how thick is your pole? I can’t decide if I want a heavy one or thinner one.

There is a problem with the pole spear being either too heavy or the elastic string too long
Hello, the rubber on my polespear was certainly too long. I since made adjustments and it worked better but I no longer have the back section so it doesn't get much action nowadays.
For more success with the pole spear add a roller and a longer pole
I would love too! Dream set up would be a 9ft carbon roller polespear with a slip tip 🤤
I choose speargun over polespear
Interesting, why is that?
🤣🤣🤣
your rubber band us too long
Yeah, you're not wrong hommie. Video was a while ago, might have to redo it at some point
