I live in the south and was blown away at the dealers in my state that would not call you back, not give you a price, and when I went in to look at these boats talk about a cold shoulder , boat dealers here just acted like they were too busy to deal with me, I am a skeeter guy and I sure do think it hurts the boat co with these dealers that just don't care;;;;;;
I was 20 when I bought my Harley. I went to 3 dealerships before I got treated like a person and not a kid getting ready to spend 15k on a bike. Hope it goes a little better when I hopefully buy a boat next year. Great info thanks Lou
I just placed a deposit on a new Nitro at Palmetto Boats in Greenville SC. This will be my 3rd boat from them and the reason I keep going back is because of the great reception and willingness to help the first time I bought a boat from them. My first purchase from them was a Skeeter but they are no longer a Skeeter dealer. I highly recommend them. I hope you are enjoying your Skeeter. They are great boats. Great video!
Great job explaining the process of purchasing a boat, dealers, financing and cost of maintaining your bass boat. Most new bass boat owners don't realize the expense of owning one. I noticed that you failed to mention depreciation after letting go of your boat after only three years. Your mentioned that bass boats hold their value to a certain extent, but depreciation and condition of the boat/motor is considerable. Many people will not realize that they will be "upside down" on their loan and end up financing the new boat loan, plus what they own on their existing loan. Not to mention that the price of a new boat will have increased, increasing the size of the loan. I enjoy watching your videos, good luck this coming year and I'll look out for you on the Potomac or Upper bay.
Great advise man, its always best to be upfront from the start. I acctually just bought me a 21 footer, found a 2006 Ranger Z21 with only 10 hrs on it for 22K. Its practically brand new lol
man! thats a crazy deal!! holy crap! I got a buddy that paid near that with 500hrs on a 2007...and the boat was mint! you are lucky those types of deals aren't common
I bought my first bass boat in Md. It was a 19' Javelin with a 175 Fast Strike, an older boat at the time, but ran great for me for years and I made a little money over what I paid when I sold it. I waited 2 years to get the right deal for an purchased from an auction yard that was right by the Bay Bridge, I believe it was under the Kent Narrows Bridge, but it was the late 90's, maybe even 2000. They were super awesome! I paid $2500.00 cash at the auction, it had a couple minor things wrong, and I paid the guys that knew what they were doing at the auction yard to fix "everything wrong with it" and it cost another $500.00 and they were great, did what they said, one thing went wrong on my first trip out, of course, and I took it back and they had me up and running in an hour at no charge, and for 3K I had my very own, pretty nice, bass boat. It can be done with patience and research. Had the boat a couple years and ended up selling it for about 1k more than I paid and still gave that guy a heck of a deal, so like Louis says here, be smart, and firm, and it can work out for ya. I hope this helps all the subscribers and viewers. Tight Lines!!
Sales and buying is almost always a relationship experience. I talked to 7 skeeter dealers prior to buying my boat. The first key for me is their web site and pricing info. The second key is how is their first contact with me. Is it warm and friendly or are they rushed and don't care. I bought mine from a Pa Skeeter dealership. So why did I buy from them? Well first they had exactly what I wanted. Great if not the best web site with far more than enough photos. We met on the price, makes for two happy parties. Communication by phone and email was great. They were quick to get back to me when I had questions. They didn't waste my time as it was a 7 hour round trip to check out them on the boat. It was an extremely cold day and the dealer uncovered the four boats I was interested in. When I closed they gave me a date for the pickup and a time. Paperwork maybe took a few minutes. I was given a full blown over view of the boat, I had a lot of questions so that took an hour. When we went to hook up the boat I brought the wrong hitch. I did not have a 5 connection wire hook up. The owner who was hooking up the boat said well wait and I will be back. He came back with the correct hitch. I had a drop and I needed a straight. Not only did he bring the hitch but it had a new ball on it. Plus he brought me the correct wire hook up. He put it all on and hitched the boat. I asked how much so I could pay for the extras. He said habe a nice day no charge.
I just a few weeks ago drive 12hrs round trip to buy a 2022 boat on order. Got they with agreed on price, options. Salesmen wasn't there. Dealer would make the order. Texted salesmen. He replied he was sick. Said his dealer would take care of us,they wouldnt. Week and 2 days latter this salesmen text and say i have your deal ready, have your new pricing and build slot ready just need your down payment. New price was $2500 more than agreed on price. Showed him our agreed on text price. He said out of his control. Not even a apology for all my $100 in gas down and back 12 hours round trip and not making the boat order when the prices were cheaper before the boat company raised him prices two and a half percent. Ive had many examples just this bad. Sad business. They flat just see you as a number. Now when i see a nice boat at the ramp, i think what battles did he go through to buy it
Just purchased my first boat, and I really relate with this video. I ended up getting a Skeeter Zx190. I was looking at aluminum boats mainly. Blackbeard Marine here in Oklahoma has been great! They treated me so well. Super happy with my purchase. Btw Nitro is nationwide pricing so no negotiations there!
Im in Mustang Okla, did blackbeard budge on pricing any? I wonder if they would throw in a power pole with the sale? Ive been looking at the ZX200 & 150’s.
@@mp5kfisher241 ya they worked with me on price. I did also buy the last 2020 Zx190 they had so dunno if thats why they worked on price or not. This was also before the economy went into the gutter and you could still find boats. Good luck!
Taco Bob ahh ok they were getting rid of old stock to make room and took the lower offer. Ive been watching their web page closely for new stock. All the new 2022’s are being shipped to Tulsa and a few to kingston, i have not seen one 2022 arrive in okc, unless they are already spoken for. They did say i would have to put a $2500 deposit down to hold one. I also went to shawnee and checked out S&D boats for bass cat. They said if i put in a order for one it would be a May of 2022, seven months for delivery. This crap is just crazy man! I wished i would have bought one a few years ago LOL Thank you so much for replying buddy!
Taco Bob is that TZX190 a pretty stable boat? Im a big guy and wonder if i should go with the ZX150. Of course the ZX200 isnt that much bigger but it has the 200 hp.
I bought a boat last fall and I am disappointed I bought from the dealer, everything started off well, I took delivery of the unit then 2 weeks later I find out they are no longer carrying manufacturer, so the add on pieces I had requested were no longer available through them. I could get them but I would have to drive father to another dealer. I was extremely disappointed in the experience and now I am without the other features I wanted added. the whole experience was a letdown. All they wanted to do was move the inventory out to bring in the new manufacturer. I will say when I contacted the manufacturer to inquire about the options, they were very helpful but could not sell them to me as it would go against their dealer agreements. I understand but I don't want to drive 3 hours for service. I am now looking to sell this boat and start the process all over again with a dealer closer to me. I had a gnawing feeling in the back of my head that I should have walked away. I would not recommend that dealer to anyone. I don't know if its a Canadian thing, but I didn't find most boat dealers staff friendly or accommodating. There is one dealer I would recommend in Ontario Canada and that is Northern Leisure Marine in Bobcaygeon ON.
Helpful advice Beyond. I'm trying to help a friend buy a bass boat, and we looked at 4 dealers, went to Palmetto too for Phoenix. All dealers we visited were good. He plans to buy soon I think, and I'm his English interpreter. His English not so good, but the old boy can catch fish!
I bet if you would've went to Abernathy in Tennessee you would've had 2nd thoughts about takin one home from there because they're the cheapest in the country at least in off road vehicle sales so I know they're not gonna change on their boats
Fun n sun is just trying to help you. They get really really busy here so they probably had a customer doing something and said “hey let me go check on this guy real quick” they are the biggest dealer around so they have to do that or they would get complaints that no one helped them.
Good video, unfortunately, not all dealers will negotiate boat prices. Case in point, Lund boat dealers will not negotiate prices. I was told, if I didnt want to pay MSRP, I should go else where.
I know this was 4 years ago. I did not have the same experience. Inquired about a Zxr19 and never got a response. They posted on Facebook about how they are the top marine dealer and I commented saying how I’d agree if they responded to inquiry’s and commented how I was willing to travel from Louisiana and was blocked from their page. Very unprofessional. Went to Plano marine and was treated like family
Can I ask if you had any specific reasons in choosing the length of your boat? I have been researching my boats and have looked at every manufacturer and the one hold up I’m having is not spending the extra $$ on the 21’ over the 20’. I’m actually trying to find a good reason or any reason to go with a 19’ or 20’. I can afford just about any boat I want but I still wonder if the $6k difference from the 20 to 21 is worth it. Did you do a video on why you went with the skeeter or was it strictly the deal you got? I’m loving this new nitro 21 with the elite package. It’s fully controlled by the console 16” . Did you look at Legends? Thanks for your help.

Great video! I wondered how the sticker price vs actual paid price worked. Is it like a car where you can offer substantially lower (a.k.a. I gotta talk to my manager) or the price is pretty much the price. From what you said it seems situational. Used boats have more wiggle room and last years model new boats may have some as well. Did you find that dealers would budge on a new current year model in the off season? This is the only arena I've seen this discussed. Big ("Fury") props for going there! ;)
Pricing on most boats is not like cars. Unfortunately the prices are set by the manufacturer. For example, Ranger Boats has "MAP" Pricing (I believe thats the term) which applies to that Boat year. You can go to ranger.com and that boat price is the boat price. However, if its a non year boat (2017 in 2018) they can do some dealing. Hopefully that makes sense.
I got my 2016 z521c for a ridiculous price. I stole it for what my insurance company rated the worth at. Brand New this rig would've been over 100k for a 2018
why when people are selling boats they don't take proper picture all around the boats of the imperfection and damages, they take the best side of the boat and hope someone drive hundreds of miles to at their boat it and buy, come on people you need to be honest and you will get a better buyer and less problems in your life.
Do you wish you had a kicker motor or do you fish any horse power restricted lakes? I know there’s a lot around here so I’m curious if you just avoid them or do you still fish em?
