@@BourbonCountryReacts I love Rush, but also grew up listening to country because of my dad. My favorite artists are always the ones that have great lyrics, no matter the genre. One of the reasons I listen to a lot of Brad Paisley is the fun he has with his lyrics.

Now this is just what I’ve always interpreted from the chorus.
You'll ride a black tornado 'cross the western sky- That’s something that is impossible to do. You can’t control something as wild as the wind let alone a tornado. This Oklahoma girl (having been though losing everything I had in the 99 tornado and coming only blocks away from losing it all again in 2013 while my 5 month old daughter was having a major heart surgery) knows tornados very well.
Rope an ol blue norther and milk it till it's dry- Chris was a bronc rider and there was a insanely fast and wild horse with a similar name that was tough as hell to rope. However, there are also blue northern bulls and besides being tough as hell you simply can not get milk from a bull…unless you’re trying to breed it😆
Bulldog the Mississippi, pin it's ears down flat- In rodeos (which Chris was a legend of) bulldogin is where they quite literally wrestle the steer to the ground by it’s horns. You simply can’t wrestle the Mississippi River into submission or control it.
Basically you will have to do the absolute impossible to get that hat off him. Sorry it was so long of a breakdown. Hope that helps. Love you guys and everything y’all are doing. Keep up the good work!

I think that when he refers to roping an Ol’ Blue Norther, he is referring to the great plains weather phenomenon known as a Blue Norther or sometimes called a Texas Norther.
This is a fast-moving cold front that leads to a rapid drop in temperature, strong winds, and dark blue or "black" skies.
The cold front originates from the north, hence the "norther", and can send temperatures plummeting in minutes.
The Great Plains lack natural geographic barriers to protect itself from the frigid winter air masses that originate in Canada and the arctic. Multiple times per year conditions will become favorable to push severe cold fronts as far south as Texas, bringing sleet and snow and causing the windchill to plunge into the teens. Depending on the time of year, the weather that immediately precedes it can be warm and sunny in nearly-calm conditions before the cold front approaches. They move fast, are unpredictable, and are brutally harsh.
Chris certainly was the real deal as far as cowboys go. His music gained popularity in an underground sort of way as "bootleg" cassettes of his music were passed around the rodeo crowd and more and more people became aware of him and wanted to hear more of his music. That was how Garth Brooks became aware of him. Garth himself is the man most responsible for the explosion in popularity of the country music genre in the last 30 years with his hit songs and showmanship and his mention of a Chris Ledoux tape in his song helped kick start Ledoux's career beyond the rodeo circuit crowd. My favorite song of Ledoux is the one he recorded with Garth called 'What'cha Gonna Do With a Cowboy'. There is a video for that song and the lyrics are upbeat and catchy.

The first song that mentions Chris specifically being Garth’s debut signal “Much Too Young” which itself is pretty much ingrained into rodeo culture.
Thanks for the review of This Cowboy's Hat, it was written by my husband Jake Brooks and is definitely based on a true story. It happened in a diner when Jake was in college at New Mexico State. Chris Ledoux did an awesome job recording the song. Chris was not only an awesome singer, he was an awesome person. Performers like Chris are few and far between, he is truly missed.

Years ago, here in The Turtle Mountains of ND we had a 3-day country jam and Chris was the final act on day 3. Rain off and on all afternoon and then one hell of a shitshow thunderstorm right before he came out. I was in a group of maybe 500 people still standing there when he came on and they had been averaging about 6000 a day. He said you guys are true fans and you deserve a show. One of the best concerts I ever seen with super wet muddy crowd. You need to check out his song Hooked on a 8 second ride. That's some country rock.

Chris is my favorite country artist. I sure do miss going to his concerts. I went every chance I got and was never disappointed. He was the real deal for sure, not just singing about being a cowboy, but actually lived the life. If you haven't already, check out Copenhagen and County Fair.

Chris is who Garth modeled his entire persona on. Chris taught Garth how to appear to be a cowboy, and Garth taught Chris how to become successful in the music industry.
Chris however was as authentic as you could get, a world champion bronc rider, amazing showman, and simply a legend in both rodeo and country music. And while he was not necessarily ab early face of country itself, he is most certainly one of the pioneers of the western side of the genre.

I totally forgot about 'The Johnson County War'. What a great song with a classic Western theme and based on a true story too. The Johnson County War, also known as the War on Powder Creek was fought between large ranchers and homesteader's in Wyoming between 1883 and 1894. Many a great western movie was inspired by that story including the classic Western 'Shane'. Ledoux captures the spirit of those times with that song from the homesteaders view...

Chris was a world champion rodeo cowboy before his music career, and he was one of Garth Brooks' favorite singers. I never met the man, but from what I've been told, he was a really decent guy. He passed away some years back from cancer.
Some of my favorites of his are “Five Dollar Fine” and “You Just Can’t See Him From the Road”.

1973 World Champion Bareback Rider. Wrote music and made 8-tracks tapes to sell out of his trunk at rodeos. He was the guy who inspired Garth’s live performances. Stayed at his Ranch in Kaycee, Wyoming instead of moving to Nashville. A real RANCH cowboy. Yes. OG COWBOY!
I was lucky enough to see Chris live about a year before he died. It was at a small venue here in VA and let me tell you, the show he put on, you'd swear he had a stadium sized stage. The energy and FUN were incredible. He took you on a hell of a ride and left you as exhausted as he was by the end. By the way, if you want a song that will make you laugh like you've rarely laughed before, check out Chris' "Photo Finish". Or.... "Copenhagen"... they're hilarious!!!

Chris Ladoux was a real cowboy and was a professional rodeo cowboy, he won the World championship bareback riding at the 1976 National Finals. He also sang and wrote music during this time and after he retired from Rodeo. Although he was very popular along the Rodeo circuit, it wasn't until Garth Brooks mentioned his name in the song Much too young, to feel this damn old. Chris's popularity exploded.
Chris LeDoux started from selling CDs from the back of his pickup before and after the rodeo when he was still competing in the Rodeo. Garth Brooks said - When Chris got on stage it was like someone open the chute on him! Meaning they let the bull out!! Garth Brooks model his own shows after watching Chris LeDoux do a show! Chris LeDoux was the real deal in his family life his Rodeo live and his singing life!! Too bad we lost him so early! Ned LeDoux (his son) just did a song with Garth Brooks at the Cheyenne Rodeo. This year the Rodeo was in honor of Chris LeDoux!!

I saw Chris live here in Lubbock. At the end of the show, he had a saddle rise out of the stage. While singing a song, he climbed atop the saddle, it began mechanically bucking wildly, and he rode it while pyrotechnics went off. This is my best recollection. He went all out.

Cowboy hat was released in 1982 by Chris Lodux . Chris was a real cowboy .
Garth Brooks learned a lot of how he acts on stage from Chris LeDoux. Garth played shows with Chris very early during Garth’s career. Garth said he observed Chris and his band having more fun than the audience, and he determined to do the same. This creates an energy where the crowd and the band feed off of each other. It’s definitely worked for Garth, and it worked for Chris, too.
Queen was one of the first rock bands to really understand and capitalize on that energy interaction. LOTS more artists get it now. - Keith

Rodeo terminology mixed with wild nature.
Ladoux is responsible for bringing excitement to country music concerts. Prior to him, it was mostly just the singer standing behind a mic and singing and strumming. He brought the energy and pyrotechnics. Garth Brooks admired him and brought those elements into mainstream when he went big.
Innovators in performance really deserve recognition. On the rock side, that was Queen, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Iron Maiden, and a few others. And, I don't even like Alice Cooper's music. But he brought a lot of innovation to performance that others mimicked in some way. - Keith

Saw Chris ride at a few Rodeo's , my Mom rode barrels. ( She was never top tier, but some of her horses were. ) In the summer we traveled the circuit. Ran into Chris a few times, very nice man, funny in that cowboy way.
I much prefer his non-large venue videos or official videos, you can hear HIM, not just the music. 8 second ride is my favorite.

I recommended this song on a different video, without realizing you already did it. I'm slowly making it through your videos.
For my mom, Chris was a true Country singer. He was a cowboy in all the sense with his bull riding. Not many singers could say that they were part of the Rodeo as Reba is the only other country singer that I can recall having a Rodeo Background with her being a Barrel Racer. Chris's songs were just from the heart and spoke to me the true life of a cowboy. The belt buckle you see on his belt is actually the championship buckle he won with his bull or bareback bronco riding. Heck he never had a label and sole his tapes at the rodeos he was in to pay for his traveling expanses and as well to stay independent as long as he could as it was only in the last 10 years of his life that he had a label. So as you gentlemen said he was an OG in so many ways. He showed that you really didn't need a label to a singer and that while he really didn't have what are 'hits' in today's world his songs were still hits in their own way. Garth was willing to give a part of his liver when Chris was diagnose with an illness that required a liver transplant but they weren't compatible but that showed just how much Chris meant to Garth.

Chris Ladoux was one of if not the first country artists to start experimenting with adding rock into his music.
(Hooked on an 8 second ride, and Horsepower) are two of his songs that you could class as just rock music. I highly recommend reacting to both.

OG rodeo country. Chris Ladoux was my first concert without my parents. We "stole" the coppenhaggen sign during the show. Of course security caught us. Thankfully it was the last day of the fair/rodeo and they let us keep it. I hope I still hangs up in my old friends garage.

Chris Ladoux was an amazing bull rider and an amazing performer. He was relatively unknown in music until Garth Brooks started promoting him. I was going to suggest maybe having lyrics up on a phone or something on another video and forgot. I’ve seen several reaction channels that do it! Great song guys!!

Y'all would look good in a pair of jeans, tee-shirt and old flannel shirt hangin' open and cowboy hats. Love this song, #7 on my play list. Wish he was still around. Y'all need to hear "When cowboys didn't dance" by Lonestar "Hooked on an 8 second Ride" Chris LeDoux. And if you really like country rock fusion, Anything by Brantley Gilbert. As for bourbon. Sorry, gotta go with Keith on this one. Not a fan of chocolate tabbaco. Cognac tabbaco is smooth as silk though. It is a beautiful color.

You have no idea how many fights I’ve broken up tending bar in my small Cowboy town because some asshat decided to try to grab someone’s Stetson.
We used to buy Chris’s records from Western Horseman magazine or out of the back of his pickup truck at Rodeos.
The point of the song is standing up for what you believe in, and texas pride lol. With that said I knew Keith’s reaction was coming and is a big reason i clicked😂😂 i like figurative messages so its funny to see someone so literal😂

Chris LeDoux is the guy who taught Garth Brooks how to rock. He was an actual rodeo cowboy who went on to become a great Country Artist. An absolute legend. Another good song of his is Stampede. But he's got a lot of really good songs. They put out a greatest hits album not long before he died.
Problems with lyrics is why I don't really like live performance videos. "You'll ride a black tornado across a western sky. Rope an ol' blue Norther (nor'easter storm in other parts of the country) and milk it till it's dry. Bulldog (calf roping term) the Mississippi (river) and pin it's ears down flat (again, treating it like a calf roping), long before you take this cowboy's hat." Basically, saying that the bikers would have a better chance at fighting nature than fighting him and his friends in the bar.

New subscriber, working my way back through your videos, tickled pink to see Chris Ledoux, sorry you started with this one and even sorrier that you apparently didn't check him out a bit more. If you ever get around to it, take a look at one or more of these: You Just Can't See Him From The Road, Cadillac Ranch, 8 Second Ride, and Whatcha Gonna Do With a Cowboy? This guy was a bona fide rodeo star and rancher, the real deal. His music is still played a lot at rodeos. Died way too young, 56 I think. Cowboy and Cadillac are fun songs, the other two are lifestyle songs, cowboy/rodeo rider.

Chris Ledoux and Garth infused a lot of rock mix into their music. Check out Fever…Garth worked with Steven Tyler to remix it for the rodeo. They said that the rodeo guys who loved country would amp up with rock before busting out of the gate cause country didn’t have enough edge to get them rev”d up.
I feel like when classic rock and 80s rock got lost to hip hop and grunge country adopted them and the 80s pop that got lost to R&B. The fans also went country about that time. Alan Jackson even wrote “Gone Country” about how many people were shifting to country.
Garth Brooks patterned his performances after Chris . Chris gave his all no matter what he did. Chris passed away in 2005 from pancreatic cancer , His son Ned LeDoux is also a singer.
Chris was the real deal a true rodeo champ that taught Garth Brooks how to really put on a show.
