When Koonce was coming out of Buffalo i heard a draft analyst call him a poor mans Khalil Mack. He obviously aint Mack but he has come a long way since being drafted and is ready to make an even bigger impact than he had last year. If he can stay healthy watch out. Loving the defense the Raiders have right now. Can't wait to see them in action. GO RAIDERS!
Excited for what both these guys will bring this year, not really a competition though as they are different players and will both be key parts of our rotation.
Not even remotely close, Malcolm Koonce is going to dominate in #2024. If Telesco and AP are smart, they'll sign Malcolm Koonce to an extension before the season starts.
The thing I like is we have variety and depth. So one week Koonce might dominate, next could be Wilson's turn. We can hunt matchups and exploit opposition weaknesses.
I think they both will start. If you guys haven't seen him, Wilson added more muscle mass. He will be inside more. The starting line looks like it will be Maxx, Wilkins, Wilson, Koonce with Butler, Jenkins, Young, and others coming in as rotational guys
My current thought is Koonce but it is hard to judge because their methodology is different. And thank you Carl for another great video and ending it with the the big man’s TD!
@@bennyrenaissance8549 selecting Wilson in the 1st round and have him sub proves that he was never worthy of being drafted in the first round. He’s too slow in my opinion and this video proves that when comparing his speed to Koonce’s speed.
@@Baby_Suge he was an injured rookie last season. Tyree came on at the end of the season and there's rumors of trading Koonce because Wilson has been performing very well in training camp. The Raiders just have an embarrassmentof riches on the defensive line. Tyree is good enough to start at end but being able to sub him in all over the line is good. Maxx ,Koonce, and the DT's can't play 100% of the snaps. It reminds me of back in the day when Kobe Bryant was coming off the bench in his second year because Eddie Jones and Nick Van Exel were all stars and starters but Kobe was a rising star and started above them in the all star game in his 2nd year. Tyree is a starter on most teams. Raiders are just deep on the D-line. Not a bad thing.
Greg Townsend was not a starter, but he played 93% of games. In this manner, it’s less about who starts and more of who and when we use these guys in unexpected and successful ways, like stunts and rips and bends and disengaging. We have waves of players now. It’s gonna be spicy.
I'm no expert at the X's and Ohh''s, or have an eye for talent, I'm just a fan for the last 45yrs, but I see Wilson at DE with his size, power and length. He's a natural lining up opposite the T I see Mal as a OLB, sometimes hand in the dirt, situational player. Hell, move both of them around and make opposing offenses guess at whose coming for their guy. Either way, they're both gonna get a lot of that work!
I was suggesting Wilson in the middle with Wilkins and Koonce at Edge. Koonce, Moehrig, Hobbs, & Spillane all needed to be extended. Diablo is a Question mark.
It’s been a long time since the raiders had capable backups at almost every position! (A little worried about the secondary depth) but the depth on the defensive line should keep these guys fresh! I can’t imagine how good max will be in the fourth if he actually gets to take a few plays off this year! It’s going to be fun to watch. Excited for Wilson and koonce and think both leave their mark.
2 totally different body types. Koonce will probably be the Edge guy opposite Maxx in most sets, but in a 3DL set or 2DL set I could see Wilson with his hand in the dirt.
I don't know if there is a competition. There are enough snaps for the DEs to rotate and still get enough playing time. Nobody plays 2 DEs, each of which play 100% of the snap on their side. I think having 3 really good DEs is great. Both for rotational purposes and in case one of the 3 get injured. In addition, if PG determines he wants a full out, get the QB on the ground at all costs situation, Wilson can play at DT besides Wilkins. There are not many OLs that will hold up facing Crosby, WIlkins, Wilson, and Koonce. If the opposition decides to get cute, and run the ball on a clear passing down, all of them play the run well, on top of being good to great pass rushers. It also remains to be seen how Wilson will do this year, considering his injury is healed up, and he's been going hard in the gym (as have Crosby, Koonce, and Wilkins). If Wilson is well enough along in his development, Crosby can take a few downs off every game, reducing wear and tear and making sure he is healthy all throughout the season and possibly the playoffs (and I do think we make the playoffs). Same goes with Koonce. I also think we re-sign Koonce as well.
I hope we can re sign Koonce , Spillane and Moerhig before next season otherwise they will be with another team. Diablo too but not as urgent as the other three.
Man, all I Can say is it doesn't matter which guy you get out there. These boys are gonna feast together. The Nascar Package is gonna be insane. Crosby Wilkins Wilson Koontz good lord thay front four is nasty.
My hope is Koonce on the edge/olb and Wilson starts as a three tech, moves over to D end with different packages. I don’t think Tyree beats Koonce out but that doesn’t mean he won’t play a lot.
Koonce is nice Colts fan here when we played ya he flashed think Raiders headed in right direction AP is a players coach defense looks legit just bout finding ya franchise QB
Wilson literally slowest person off the ball every single snap--even in his highlight reel. Unless that's from too much medicating or something he can cut out, he may just be a slow-mo sort of person. Could still be serviceable. But not great.
@@CatPartyTRex I agree! I personally never liked the pick. He’s too slow and most Raiders fans don’t see it. I’m willing to bet that he’ll be cut next year if he don’t improve. The last two players that the Raiders selected in the 1st round with injuries coming into the draft were DJ Hayden and Karl Joseph, how did that work out for the Raiders, so why pick a player like Wilson knowing that he’s had a major injury coming in? Or the thought of moving him inside when they brought in Christian Wilkins in via free agency. If Wilson was worthy of a 1st round pick and they moved him inside they possibly wouldn’t have needed to bring Wilkins in. Wilson was a bad pick in my opinion!
Sorry Carl, but I don’t think Wilson has a chance. It’s not that I think Malcolm is that much better. it’s just that I don’t think Wilson has the game speed to be that good. I believe that Wilson may possibly be even cut by the beginning of next year. Raider homers will say that he came in to the draft with an injury and we need to give him a year to heal my issue with that is what happened to the two most recent players that we drafted in the first round that came in with injury history? Those players are DJ Hayden and Carl Joseph. I’ll let anyone chime in at this point to refute my claim.
Need both of these dudes to get at least 10 Sacks 😤
I could not possibly disagree with that!
Malcolm Kooce is my pick to start and wilson is good coming off the bench..it's his 2nd yr he still has things to learn

More conducive to wait until mid season should Koonce continues to progress IMHO. ✅️💯☠️
But if Koonce is smart, he would wait until FA. If he balls out, raiders won’t be able to afford him because a desperate team will give him the bag.
@almo5086 yeah bro that's probably going to be the outcome, unfortunately. I know he's hitting 15+ sacks this season

Grade A depth takes you places. Koonce should start and Tyree should sub in and spell both ends and both DT's on passing downs.

Tyree and Zeus been eating their spinach though. Tyree looks like a DT. In fact he makes the other DTs look lanky
Almost doesn't matter. Graham will play both of them at the same time as well as rotate Butler and Jenkins in. What a great "problem" to have.
