I just realized when vegeta yells at 9:45 piccollo says "ow my ears" because of his namekian hearing. A pretty subtle touch tfs.
He wouldn't have liked Vegeta's screaming in episode 18 then.
My favorite part is in the one episode where Dende is checking out Gohan with his SS hair, Dende whistled in a sexy way and you can hear Piccolo say “ow” in the background

I finally got Krillin's comment about being on Namek for like a year. Episode 13 started April 2010 and this episode aired June 2011. It took them over a year to get to this point!

Unfortunately, the Earthlings were not!
He probably thought Frieza couldn't reach them in time. I mean, Nail did fly with Frieza in the other direction for over an hour. It's actually kind of amazing how accurate Nail's estimate was though, he even took in Frieza's maximum power level for that form (literally by guessing what it was) into consideration to determine a safe distance from Dende.

@@janelantestaverde2018 maybe so but it'd be stupid to write scenes soley in a way that looks good. A Nail that is able to calculate all of those factors on a whim (which is something he actually did and would have been spot on if Frieza didn't have more than just the one transformation) is a far more compelling scene than a Nail that is just all talk.
@@veronkrahss482 That is obviously true. It's, in contrast to what you've written, just not really an accomplishment anymore if it was written in a way that he can just do this.
Because he can't really calculate the exact time at which they use the dragonballs. They, in the end, didn't use them right away but at a rather random time. However Frieza appears exactly after they used them. So it's just convenient writing with a "it was all planned" pinned to it.
But I won't hold these Deus Ex Machina moments against Dragonball because it basically lives on these :D Just like 9 out of 10 shows do, overall speaking. It's just not really an accomplishment by the character anymore if it's just conveniently written. Which is a problem in most anime first and foremost.

Why is every character so much better in an abridged series?
To be honest, it's not _that_ difficult to improve the characters. Akira Toriyama's a gag manga artist- characterization and drama was always second and third to the goofball slapstick, which sorta got shunted halfway through O.G. Dragon Ball. Sort of like if someone half-toasted a pancake and dumped a lot of syrup on top to make up for it since baking isn't their forte.
When you get a bunch of people who really understand these characters, their motivations, their personalities, etc. _and_ are pretty good writers themselves, it's almost impossible to fuck it up. They start by actually finishing the baking process, and then add their own talents.
KennyTheGamer the characters lose a lot of personality in z. Abridged adds it all back and more. Z is still great tho

This one episode was filled with so many funny gags, from Piccolo being wished to Namek, courtesy Krillin, to Vegeta trying to put two and two together.
Since I haven't seen the original DBZ, sometimes I forget and think this is the real thing...that is, until Goku comes in. One of the main reasons I forget is because of Vegeta's voice actor

The voice actor they had for this abridged series was unreal. You can really tell they cared a lot about the show and they're projects. Vegeta's might be the best impression of Christopher Sabot's Vegeta that I've ever heard. And then there's King Kai, King Kami, Mr. Popo, and Master Roshi's, which are so accurate they feel like the real characters are saying it, which makes all the humor even funnier than normal abridged series that came after this, or even before too. And Piccolo's voice actor is funny as hell, how he can change from Piccolo, Nail, or Kami in his head is funny af. And to be honest even though the Frieza actor isn't doing an impression of the original voice so to speak, they're still doing a perfect replication of Frieza's personality. Everything he'd take joy in, patience in, seriousness in, or be completely angered by, is all completely perfect
