The europlug on this adapter is rated for 2.5A only, which are round about 530W (on 230V). Appliances with a higher demand require this plug here (double insulated appliances, up to 16A):

The diameter of the prongs of the europlug is much smaller. That's the reason that it can only handle 2.5A. It was created for maximum compatibility between different connection systems in Europe. The only system where it can't be used is the british BS 1363 system. But 2.5A are sufficient for appliances like a charger (phone, tablet, toothbrush, shaver), consumer electronics (except PCs, they are class 1 appliances and require a plug with ground connection). But not for a hair dryer which draws too much amps for this plug.

The three round pins are actually the old british system (BS 546) which they used before they switched over to BS 1363 with its rectangular pins.

I was to comment the same but you did it better. It also does not support grounding while happily accepting grounded plugs. I wonder is it even fused which is mandatory in the UK.

This looks like a very handy device especially if it can convert enough power for hair dryers. Isn't that about 1000+ watts? Can it handle that? ( Btw I think you have the plugs on your board for the UK and Australasia upside down - that's OK for Aus & NZ because we are upside down down here, but not the UK. OK?) Great device and I want one, but can it convert enough power my drill or saw if I buy a 110v machine off Amazon?

+Dave Fletcher Hi Dave, thank you for your interest in our product. Yes, hairdryers can be upwards of even 1875 watts, which is the wattage up to which this device can handle. As far as using a device such as a power drill or saw you would generally need a heavy-duty, continuous-use, motorized transformer depending on the exact appliance. We do not carry anything of that nature. Hope this helps.
