The Jaguar that set the Nurburgring record was a version with roll-cages and rear sats deleted - Track Pack. This one is Touring version, probably makes a difference... Edit: So apperantly this is isn't Touring version, because it has all the aero bits you can get it with.
It had a floating cage which adds no chassis rigidity but saves the driver in the event of a crash. The cage added weight and the seats reduced it so the recipe was more or less the same.
An ECU tune on that can get around 800 actually. Very cheap tunes too. Got an ECU tune for $4,000 on my C63S and that already hits 650 HP (originally 530 HP)
Lol, all the weight saving, the big wing, the more aggressive front splitter and defuser set up the stuffer suspension on the jag and it was still basically 6 tenths slower than a 2 tone luxury 4 door saloon. Impressive AMG, impressive.

If the Jag is slower, these guys didn't need to run the two to get the AMG with just 6 tens on a whole circuit. The official figures fir both cars on the Nurbrunging circuit show that the XE is the fastest sedan in the world. End of story

Mate it’s 7 tenths of a second, in one lap. 7 tenths, that is a huge gap! In two laps the merc is 1.4s ahead. 1 tenth is maybe the driver messed up on a lap. But 7 tenths quicker is no mistake.
@@billalm7540 yeah 4s quicker round a 14mile track on different days with different drivers and conditions. A lot of variables there, so 4s round a 14mile track could be down to driver error on some corners. This test is the same driver, same conditions and provides a more accurate representation of the performance difference.
So are the arm-chair racer AMG fan-boys here just going to ignore the speed difference when they started the clock? Merc - 115mph vs Jag - 113mph.. So yeah, .7 seconds could easily be chalked up to driver & test condition fluctuations. I'm a big fan of both Merc & Jag so I have no bias either way.
These 2 cars are really fast, at the moment, the 4 door sedan that's the 3rd fastest in Laguna Seca is the Cadillac CTS-V with a 1:38.52. We'll se how fast the M5 Competition is, but I can't see it beating the Merc.
Merc is the best of the German luxury brands to me. I know BMW boys will disagree, but that's okay. Presumably there are still Audi fanboys, too, for some strange reason.

For some reason I never liked the 4 door AMG GT.. Especially with the qing it looks so wrong. The normal AMG GT is superb! And the Project 8 is a really cool car
Difference between the budgets of two companies. One is a special project the other is flagship of a company with years of experience working on the same engine and chassis. Both are amazing in their own way.

It seems you have very limited car knowledge, if the only track you care about is the ring then you are by no means a real car person. The ring is a testing track but not a circuit for understanding which car is technically superior. F1 is the epitome of motor sports, I guess none of Mercedes, Ferrari, or Mclaren’s championships count because they don’t race on the ring. Lol get a clue. Your understanding of motor sports is very limited.
You must not forget the amg is also 4 wheel steering. The rear turns opposite the front wheels at low speeds for increased radius and turns with the front wheels at higher speeds for increase speed and traction in turns.
@Arthur Wall quite a few cars do it just bothered me that he decided to point out the fact that they both have carbon fiber spoilers instead of something as significant as the GT63S's 4-wheel steering or something more significant on the Jag since spoilers on a sport car are a given.

Why do I get the feeling motor trend really doesn't like the AMG for some reason? Runs a better lap time, set track record. Focus on the Jag and pull it to the front like it won. Also worth noting that the Jag at the nurburging was modified and had it's rear seats removed to save weight. So it was a two seater rather than a four seater. GT63S has the record for 4 door 4 seater.

You really can't be able to tell with driving like this because the breaking system and the steering system would definitely affect the outcomes. Do the straight line or the drag race instead. I get it though that the Mec won because it has higher hp and high torque and in a drag race, it would definitely win even bigger!!!!
It's called best driver's car. In cars like these, in drag racing you're not driving. You're reacting and then just there for the ride. Driving implies corners, left and right, and braking. That's why you test the quality of a chassis tune on a race track.

@@glebbaraban309 it was stock. Track pack was only available in Europe. Deleted rear seats and rollbar. It's not hard to understand why it was faster. Very highspeed corners in the ring favour the Jag, and you can see in this video that thee Jag brakes stronger. Aero and brakes give the Jag a small advantage. Just because a car is fast on the ring, doesn't mean it's the fastest in every track. Cars are better suited for some tracks than others. The AMG has a brutal engine, and a excellent chassis quality to manage all that weight

When you see numbers so close like this, I give it to drivers fluctuations
This isn't really that close, it's almost a second, and they do multiple laps in each car.

Sat in one today before I took a new GLE 53 out... it has the same seats as the AMG GTR ... Nice car. Expensive.. Over 200k canadian..

@@mutantrob5300 the S63 is a boat compared to the E63. I would just stick with the E63, the new GT might turn some heads a bit... but is it really worth the extra? I guess it depends what 30k means to you. I bought a new SL63 2 years ago and I have already lost 70... I asked about trading it on a GTR and they only want to give me 95K canadian for it.. Luckily I got 30k off when I ordered it.. sheesh..
@@twfinc6855 I couldn't pay 30K for the extra "look" of the GT63 over my E63S, I'm very satisfied with the creature comforts and its a monster with the down pipes and tuning I have done and will be ridiculous this spring when the meth and pure turbo upgrades are done

If the merc was faster it would hold the nurbring record.its the only lap time that counts in the entire world.i am a jag lover but I having been around the ring I can tell you that the locals in their race tunes 1990s BMW 3series would ruin both these cars and I have enormous respect for them both

@@glebbaraban309 it was stock. Track pack was only available in Europe. Deleted rear seats and rollbar. It's not hard to understand why it was faster. Very highspeed corners in the ring favour the Jag, and you can see in this video that thee Jag brakes stronger. Aero and brakes give the Jag a small advantage. Just because a car is fast on the ring, doesn't mean it's the fastest in every track. Cars are better suited for some tracks than others.
The AMG has a brutal engine, and a excellent chassis quality to manage all that weight
