      The percentage of support was neck and neck. But the PCs won by slimmer margins in more places thus more seats. Whereas the NDP won less seats by more of a margin. Simple really, if you read the cbc website they explained that.

    • @hockeydude471
      @hockeydude471 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      J. M. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. I'm not sure if republicans and conservatives are incapable of hearing facts or just processing them. As a dual US-Canadian I see a lot of similarities in both. The fact is that Trump lost the popular vote by 3 million votes. The reason he won is the same reason the conservatives won today. They won in certain areas by slimmer margins, but received all the electoral college for those wins. For example he won swing states like Florida, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan by tiny margins (1-4% I believe). But he received 100% of the electoral college for those wins. The majority of Americans voted against trump the same way the majority of Canadians can vote against the conservatives and still have them form government (doug ford I believe won 40% of popular vote). You can take your victory and gloat over winning via an antiquated system, congrats. But at least have the intellectual honesty to acknowledge facts, you guys are all for strong values right? Or is that only when it suits you?

    • @hockeydude471
      @hockeydude471 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      J. M. By the way in fairness, the same system gave the liberals a majority in 2015. So it works both ways, that doesn't change the facts that the system is ineffective.

    • @hockeydude471
      @hockeydude471 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      J. M. Also, they literally called people and asked who do you want to vote for. That does take into account campaigning. Because campaigning is by it's very nature convincing people to vote for you. The CBC poll put the chance of a conservative majority at 90+%. But instead of allowing the narrative to be that everyone wanted a conservative government they let people know that opinion polls showed a predilection for ndp or a tie.

      Trump gave a near $2 trillion tax cut to millionaires and billionaires... "you" are voting to make yourself poorer, and the rich, richer!
      I've never met yet a Republican supporter who actually knows and understand what they are voting for.
      I was listening today to Republicans "hypocritically" celebrating Martin Luther King Day, and yet it is 'their' party, which "gutted" the Martin Luther King's Voting Rights Act, he won in 1965 and which he gave his life for!
      The stupidity and lack of knowledge of what they are voting for, and therefore what "they" represent is staggering.

      Ninja Behind The Scene the downtown core went NDP true and the NDP won the popular vote in Toronto by four points because they won some of those ridings by thousands. But the seat count was even.
      PC 11
      NDP 11
      Lib 3
      The seat count is what matters and it was a tie so no party won Toronto really.

      He only got more popular because the basic context of what he says appeals to many people: Family, home, community. To fix one, you need to fix yourself first. Something progressives and the left have been trying their best to destroy for the last 70 years, and anyone who looks out their window in Canada, the US, or Europe can see how far society has degraded.

    The polls were indeed neck-and-neck but the PC votes were more efficiently distributed throughout many more ridings, while NDP voters were more concentrated in fewer ridings -- which translates to a significant majority of seats for the PCs.

    • @SwobyJ
      @SwobyJ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As well as depressed NDP vote compared to opinions. Whether its youth not showing up, or anti-Liberals turning to PC last day/minute, or whatever. Its still their strongest showing in a long time, but PC voters *showed up*, and as you put it, in more ridings.

      The PCs did win a majority government but they did not get a majority of the vote. They got about 40 percent. That means about 60 percent voted for other parties.

    • @devondimarco6075
      @devondimarco6075 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Get busy Live'n or Die'n you seriously don't understand the concept of popular vote vs. seat count? To put it in context, since third parties have become more prevalent, only 3 Prime Ministers have won a majority with over 50% of the vote because we have a multiple party system and a first past the post electoral system which allows majorities to form with a minority of the vote due to the vote splits. Sometimes all you need is less than 40% for example in the last election Kathleen Wynne's Liberals won a majority with just over 38% of the vote. In 1990 Bob Rae's New Democrats won a majority with 37.6% of the vote and in the last two federal elections both majorities were won with just over 39% of the vote. Only someone who is intensely partisan would say this is a good system.

    Replica politicins tend to repeat the same errors as their predecessors. Ontario will find the same old, same old. They all have the same goals, total economic chaos of THE PEOPLE that the treat as slaves, supporting all their failed policies, and allowing their friends to line their pockets. Truly local representatives would be totally answerable to the people. When was the last time an employee of the people was fired for cause? Think about it!
