I've always said I would rather any of the Shadow's VA voicing him in the movie than a celebrity, and it really shows. As someone who thinks Keanu is awesome, this DLC just makes me appreciate Kirk Thornton even more than I used to.
Keanu's shadow grunts aren't the best, but I still hope he does an alright job in the movie It really makes you appreciate Kirk Thornton, shadow's current VA for the games
This is frankly exactly how I expected Keanu to sound in this game, lol. In the early 2000s he was known for having flat line delivery in everything, and he's probably not well-suited to this type of voice acting anyway.
According to an interview, Keanu did multiple takes for the movie, so it is possible that for the DLC, it really was all done in one take per line. It's clear he's not super experienced in voice acting, but you know what? I'd say let's give him a chance. I do have a bit of hope he'll sound better when the movie comes out bc of that context that he had multiple takes on like the same lines. He seems very passionate about getting this right. Here's hoping his delivery pulls through in the movie ;a;
Also, as someone who has a ton of experience in live acting and less experience in VA work, it is DEFINITELY a hurdle for live action actors going into VA work. It's hard when the only thing you have to work with is your voice and not your actual body/facial expressions, which could play a huge part in voice delivery.
You are correct but I’d just like to point out that keanu is in cyberpunk and Toy Story 4 so it’s not like he hasn’t done voice acting before. But yes he clearly was either not giving a lot of time to do these lines or he just simply wasn’t given good voice direction. So obviously it’s not really his fault some of his lines sound kind of bland or simply just lack energy.
@@oOSonicexeOo Righttt! I completely forgot he has done VA work before! It was late at night when I made this comment so my apologies! I will say given the proper amount of time and voice direction, he can be GREAT as Shadow! Again. Just gotta wait for the movie to come out!

The fact about Keanu is that I think he is pretty good at acting, but he is just not experienced in the realm of va work. Its a completely different environment, and the voice director probably did not take a lot of time to help with that, and if the idea that he only had one take for every line is true, thats something idk even the best voice actors can do, tbh.
Yeah, he did a lot better in Cyberpunk because it was practically just normal acting. Game directing of va is also very different then animated movies.
my personal theory is that the voice direction team was too shy to say "Hey, can you take that again?" And left the delivery like that a bit weird. He almost sounds more sirene though, like shadow but more cold and less angry!
I know Keanu's VO is the selling point of this DLC but I'd be so much more likelier to buy it with the game voice actor 😭 I've rewatched scenes from Shadow Gens quite a few times because I found Kirk's voice work so evocative, meanwhile this is just so unflattering to Keanu. I hope he fared better in the movie!
I’m actually surprised at how many people struggled to find the portal. Like yeah they could’ve made it a little more obvious I guess. But they literally tell you where it is on the map with a giant pulsating effect. Also even though there is definitely a few lines that I feel like keanu could’ve done better if he had the time. Overall I just wish his lines were louder because they get drowned out too easily sometimes.
I didn't need a Final Horizon for Shadow Generations, but I was also hoping 100%ing it first try would've lasted longer than a speedrun of the original Sonic 1

oh boy a sort of early Penny video, In all seriousness, I love the DLC, I think Keanu did great work doing voice work for a confused but caring Shadow, not understanding the new world he was in
It's fun watching the rust of Penny not having touched this in a while because I just finished the Shadow Generations video like two weeks ago so the difference is funny
Yea these lines had to have been done in one take or something 'cause like: 16:49 "A beautiful-- city..." Shadow almost forgot the word for city for a second there
Happy iwth Keanu as Shadow, not disspointed at all. However, I saw someone put a clip of Robert Pattinson's Batman over Shadow and it fit so damn well, like he sounds like his Adventure 2 version
I think something about Keanu’s voice for shadow just doesn’t really fit with a videogame setting like sonic the hedgehog. All of the little “hyah” and “hup” he has to do for all of the jumps n stuff makes his voice sound really bland and flat, but it is kinda charming and hilarious in its own little way. It’ll probably sound much better in the movie where things can be properly paced out and organised in order to add more weight to his words. The movie pack is an interesting addition to the game and a neat teaser for the movie, either way I’m totally hyped for what sonic 3 has to offer. Also glad to see SEGA still understanding Shadow’s character and knowing that he’s not just some heartless edgelord that goes around doing as he pleases. Seeing him tear apart a helicopter and still setting time aside to let the solider escape is such a beautiful little moment that encapsulates Shadow’s character. He’ll rip and tear to get shit done, but he will not take unnecessary lives with him, especially considering what happened with Maria. It just wouldn’t make sense for him to be killing people for no good reason so I’m glad that they go out of their way to show his mercy and care for humanity.
I don’t think it’s Keanu’s fault for some of the lines. Like what you said Penny, it might be that they couldn’t get Keanu to stay for the recording for too long, or it was the fault of the voice direction. Still, love this DLC and can’t wait for the movie!
The mid-level voicelines in general are all just weirdly quiet for some reason. I had mine all the way up my whole playthrough and could never hear the lines very well
I couldn't have summed up the feel for Keanu's Shadow better - love the level, kinda apprehensive of the movie but I don't think anyone is looking for perfection from the series.
Think my two biggest disappointments with this dlc is that its basically only 1 stage so its all done in around 15 minutes and that you can't use the movie shadow skin on any of the main stages, that to me seems crazy considering the extra skins already in the game for both Sonic & Shadow generations
@@scrunkore that kinda makes sense, but with the skins for classic and modern in sonic generations they still use the regular models during the cutscenes, guess the difference tho is that they arent played mid level

Keanu's very flat "hyah"s are so funny
Hyahnu Reeves
They're so distracting like WOW, I feel like I was too harsh about the delivery in Adventure 2 distracting me, cause this is somehow worse xDD
I love how Keanu rejects a bunch of marvel deals but occasionally appears on SpongeBob and said “Hell yeah” when voicing shadow in game and movie
What I love is that (most of) the cutscenes are in-engine rather than pre-rendered - the models and lighting are just that good
very cool to me how those old sonic game cutscenes (such as 06 cutscenes or the shadow opening) are what the games look like these days
