This is my second race of the weekend in my 1965 Lotus Cortina Mk1. I arrived to the grid late, so I had a lot of work to do to work through traffic. It was a lot of fun, and I advanced from 15th to 1st!

Good to see a little cortina out there showing the way. certainly took me back to my youth. I had a two door, white one :) I fitted V6 capri engine mounts in mine with little modification, kept breaking the stock ones. Cheers from Australia

Thanks Phil! Those were Vees out there. The group I ran with was the under-2-liter group, and I'll admit the car was a bit overpowered for the competition. It was one of my first drives though, so I wanted to start in a slower group. I hope to get a chance to make more videos this year! Fingers crossed.

Thanks Andy, but it's just a plain old Twin Cam. It is race-prepped obviously, with a ported head, Carillo rods, etc. I agree that it is one of the best-sounding small-displacement cars we see at the races.

Yes, it's a Quaife straight-cut close-ratio dogbox. It worked amazingly all weekend, I couldn't believe the difference from the synchro box we had in the car until that weekend. It was my first experience with a dogbox, so maybe the difference is always that noticable.

Mick T Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The car does have an awesome sound! The newer camera used in some of my more recent videos has even better audio if you want to check those out ;) I'd recommend the enduro or IMSA Reunion from the 2014 Jefferson 500 for some good action!

Nice drive, mate! You were certainly shifting - the open-wheel cars, were they Formula V's? watching your drive I really missed my old '68 Mk II GT (sniff). Hope to see more vids from you this year - Good Luck.

We investigated after this weekend and found the right-hand mount had almost completely separated from the engine! We got a pair with a slightly harder rubber to replace those and haven't had any further issues.

I beg to differ with you. I bought a brand new Lotus Cortina 1966 model in Hartford, CT in early 1967. It was a left had drive, needless to say, and I took it to Yorkshire with me on a five year stint with the U.S. Government. Thanks for an interesting video. I cringe every time I think about the car that I bought for $3600 and is today work around $100K.

@@dickb2128 You're correct, and in fact since this comment was posted I found out our car is also a 1966! This track is located in West Virginia, and I'd definitely recommend it if you're ever in the area 😁

Not true Michael. I owned a 1966 Lotus Cortina that I bought in Hartford, CT brand new. My job took me to England and I took the car with me. Lots of fun but I blew the engine when adjusting the valves, one tooth off on the cam sprokets. Wish I had it today.

@@MichaelClifford164 I am in Florida and sadly I haven't had the Lotus Cortina since 1974 ! Had to sell it at a big loss in the UK because I blew the engine and couldn't afford to repair it. I am now driving a 2017 BMW M2 which I have driven a number of times at Sebring. I'd love to try Summit Point. It's a bit far to drive tho. I do know Summit Point as I lived in the Wash DC area for many years. Enjoy that car, I'm turnin' green......hahahahah

great driving, i learned to drive at the age of ten on farm land and could out drive the average adult by the time i was 14, unfortunately my ole dad passed away when i was 15 and mum had mental health issues and i went completely off the rails and i ended up as the driver for the older crooks back then usually using cosworth sierras etc. my ole man would have rightly broke my back had he been around,i could have killed innocent people.of course i ended up in jail after years of stupid behaviour. im 45 and been a staight guy for many years now,im no stig and probably not half the driver you are but i always fancied doing this type of stuff. shit happens lol. my fault. excellent car by the way.
