- After giving up the chase of Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 at Soda Springs Idaho we went off looking for fun stuff! We found a 3-foot gauge Porter 0-4-0 Tank engine, a railbus, and a great old hotel with hot springs soaking tubs in the basement!
Check out what we found while we were off screwing around in Idaho!!

Those little locomotives are appealing. Interesting about that railbus's worm gear driveline.
@@scottfw7169 yup. Slow as a snail. But powerful .
@@ToyManTelevision>>> That sounds like me. Except not powerful...🤭
That _"Dinkey Engine"_ would fit perfectly in your backyard...😊
@@Allan_aka_RocKITEman yea. I have four of them! I need to paint them and add DCC.
Cool Union Pacific Big Boy Steam Locomotive and Little Tank Engine!
@@nathancorcoran5347 right!
It is impressive how old some of those towns down south are! Up north though we have equally cool history! And lots of it!
@@le_iac2522 true 🚀😊😊🚂
Great vidio, love that rail bus, looks like one i could make fur the Yard Layout. Thanks for the morning coffee...
@@caseyvillemodelrailroad3877 morning!
That little locomotive is pretty cool!
Thanks for the video 😊
@@Santafefrank hi! Thanks!
Mice place . Have a great vacation
Hi. Will do!
Thanks for sharing your interesting finds, and the histories behind them. I would love to scratch build a rail bus from your video. 😮
Nice one! In . Chester CA there is a little engine on display with almost the same story. It was used in the building of lake Almanor then left to be inundated by water. At a time when the lake was drained for maintenance it was discovered and rescued. After being cosmetically restored it was put on display out on the main road.
Similar story but wrong lake. The Chester Dinky, originally called the Eureka, was actually used in the building Butt Lake reservoir downstream from Lake Alamanor. It was abandoned on the reservoir floor after the completion of that project. After it was relocated in '96 and recovered with help from volunteers from the Portola Railroad Museum (now called the Western Pacific Railroad Museum), it was cosmetically restored by Chester locals as I remember. It now rests in the little park outside of the Collins Pine Company sawmill, housed under a structure very similar to the one in Lava Hot Springs.
Great video
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 thanks!!!’n
Cool Dinkey engine 😎!!!!!
What interesting history on both of those finds. What a great adventure it was chasing the Big Boy. Thanks for sharing with us.
GOD BLESS 🚂 💕 🚂 💕 🚂 💕
Glad you enjoyed it. Blessings right back your way!
My grandma bought me a book when I was young called Half Pint about this locomotive and what it was used for and how it came to be in the reservoir. We found it when I was eight and visiting Lava Hot Springs and took several pictures. I’ve since taken pictures of my daughter with it. I think Half Pint is a much better name 😂 I still have the book, I’ll have to go fish it out! As always thank you for another fun video! ❤
Hey I saw you guys at the Evanston train show! I was the one with the Statue of Liberty shirt 😂
When covid started and the travel restrictions my Ohio drivers license expired. Then my only USA credit card was cancelled. My returning to the USA would be a real headache at the beginning. Your drives bring the world to me. Thank you
@@jeffbangkok wow! Well you have mangos! Lots of them! And rain this time of year. We had another rain storm! That’s two! This one lasted like twice as long as the other one. About 2 minutes. Dropped about. 0.05” of rain. Mostly steam. Because it was 98°. Cooled off to 89°! Then within two hours it was back up to over 100°.
Gracias for bringing this history to us! Love the little Porter!🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
@@tomas5376 good morning!
There's a similar Dinky engine in California. It's in plumas County in the little town known as Chester. It too was at the bottom of a lake after it was used for construction of the dam. When they needed to repair the bridge in 1996, that was when they discovered the locomotive. And now it is known forever as the Butt Lake Dinky. A fascinating little bit of California gold.
Great!!! I wanna sea it. (See what I did there?).
Ah, yes. A tank engine. Like Thomas 😀
Yes, thanks
When big boy went into Ogden he took me there and we saw tons of trains my little brother was scared because of the steam and the loud whistle but he faced his fear Evan I did I video of me seeing it on my channel
Fun!
Have you visited Youngstown Steel Heritage? They have a operating narrow gauge Porter .
@@stevenpederson1645 no! Sounds like fun!!
And it happens when I saw it in 2024
Wonder if the Dinkey Engine is the smallest Steam locomotive? Reply if I'm wrong.
That porter is so cute that I want to buy it bring it home and restore it with Dan markoff and toy man television you can record our restoration
I like to model them. I have three in large scale. And several small ones.
That dinky engine was neat to see. Kinda lost track of Steve. How is he doing these days? What is he up to?
He’s fine! Still in the old house. Still parting out the layout. Not much of it left. I’m going to do a show on that.
@@ToyManTelevision Well next time you see him, Tell him that I said hello.
