When you said you were looking forward to this, all I could think was you have no idea what you are about to experience. Emma is something very special. That is one of my favorite musical performances of all time. It is stunning in every way.
Thank you for your heartfelt, real reaction. How you experienced this song was so visible and authentic, I loved watching this.
This was an epic performance by a 15 year old girl while conducting a clinic of technical singing. It would be time well spent to get to know Emma better. She is 16 now, and has been touring the world with Maestro Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra since last January. She is making quite a name for herself while mesmerizing audiences from Bahrain to South America. Emma's star is rising fast. To say she is a phenomenal performer and vocalist is an understatement.
Despite her young age, Emma is a veteran performer. Many of her covers and concert appearances are easily found on TH-cam, and her other social media. She sings 'Voila' in French here, but her native language is Dutch. She is fluent in German and English besides. Most of her performances are in English, but it doesn't really matter because, as you've just heard, she has the uncanny ability to get her point across whether or not the listener can understand the lyrics.
This performance is from over a year ago. Emma has been very busy since then. There are many, but I will suggest a couple of her more recent performances for you to check out, and perhaps react to: 'Dancing on the Stars', again with Maestro Rieu from this past June, and a Disney medley she performed last month in Amsterdam at a show billed as Disney in Concert.
Great reaction. Very much like my own when I first heard this a year ago. Its been a long time since someone with this level of talent has come along. It is unimaginable how good she will be in 5 years when she is only 21! Take care. All the best
I was very fortunate enough to see Emma and Andre perform live in Maastricht this year. They performed her new song Dancing on the stars which was a dedication to Andre. There was not a dry eye in the house and it was an experience of a lifetime.
Emma has said in interviews that she saves up all of the anger and frustration about her situation, as well as good emotions, and lets it all out on stage, the only place where she truly feels free. Especially, in her case, when singing "Voila", which is about baring your soul and your dreams, and hoping for acceptance.
Beautifully said. Great comment.
@@exeter1588 Thank you, much appreciated.

Emma Kok is soooooooooo amazing, her voice is so beautiful, soft and emotional......her dress is so beautiful and of course she is soooooooooo beautiful I am male I am 34 years old and I am not ashamed to say I start crying...... If you don't cry you DON'T have a HEART Emma you behind believe

@@FeuerlordOzai I’m 60 and have lived a very hard life full of pain and heartache… My daughter had the same illness that Emma struggles with, (gastroparesis). In 2014, she secured a pistol and took her own life. I’ve been in a daze ever since. I thought I was hard, but Emma reduced me to a puddle of tears. She has the most beautiful voice, but it’s not just that… it’s HOW she sings. Every movement she makes is telling a story. I appreciate everything you just said, and I couldn’t agree more. “If you don’t cry, you don’t have a heart.” Let me tell you my friend, I’ve cried to this performance a hundred times. ☮️ & ❤️ from Oklahoma, USA ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m 76 and seen and heard many songs many artists and I had to smile when you said basically the same thing. I had to smile at the thought “you haven’t seen or heard what Emma can do with this song.
It wasn’t written for her but it fits her well. Basically she is pleading with the audience to see her for who she is and not just a girl with a paralyzed stomach. She’s had to fight many various battles in her young life and this performance is a testament to her drive and her character. Look for her new song out now “Dancing on the stars” it’s in English! Good reaction.
You will enjoy following her and to see how much she improves there is a new song performed on this stage one year later by her. Dancing on the stars. Andre released it as an original video. And she just released a new video Disney musical concert preview where she does two songs. Again, she is professional and one of the kindest, sweet young ladies to follow. Inspirational to all. There is no cure for her disease. 22 hours per day on two feeding pumps. Every five months tube system removal with no anesthesia. One remarkable and courageous person. Many other videos out there of her performances.❤️
Beautiful reaction. Every time I see this & hear her sing, I cry too.
Amazing as that was, just wait until you see what she did this year (at 16) with "Dancing on the Stars." Incredible given that she is connected to feeding tubes 22 hours a day.
Oh man. I definitely gotta watch that one.
Or her version of halleluja
@@MartinJansen-s1k For sure.
@@KurtisByes, it’s a must see! Powerful and beautiful! Be sure to include Andre’s and Emma’s opening comments in your reaction as well. Very gracious and emotionally moving!
Well maybe she would have more time for singing if she wasn't so greedy,I mean who eats for twenty straight hours😂 so are you trying to say she just pops out sings a song here and there then head back to the trough,I don't think so😏
You can see and hear Emma in some Dutch talk shows. And there she tells that her life is a constant kind of struggle. How she has to be frugal with her energy the whole day when she has to perform. And be connected to her pumps 22 hrs per day. That is the part we don't see. She is the star for 15 minutes and the girl with the paralyzed stomach the rest of the day.
I only heard this girl sing two days ago via TH-cam.
Goosebumps and me a grown man crying.
There is version of this with the lyrics.
Kurtis, that's a very heartfelt reaction to Emma, this was 12 months ago, when Emma walked out on to Andre's stage in Maastricht to sing their version of Voila, that was the first ever performance of that version, and her first ever performance on Andre's stage, in front of 12,500 people, and although it's not been said in as many words, it was the realisation of her dream that she'd sung 12 months earlier, the writer has written two other songs in recent years for Emma,
LAAT MIJ EEN VLINDER ZIJN , let me be a butterfly
th-cam.com/video/jAsjpnpGY2M/w-d-xo.html
was the first, where Emma so deeply expresses her aching desire to be something different, to live a normal life, at one point she sings the words, 'If only for a day, or even for a count of 10, I just want to live as another', she is desperate to be free of the constraints and limitations of gastroparesis, she wants desperately to be the emerging butterfly that's coming out of the long period in the cocoon and is about to soar into the heavens, to fulfill it's destiny, and soar free, above the limitations that it was used to, crawling on the leaves, now, it's going to soar, and mentally, that was what Emma did that first night singing Voila, she was soaring above that audience, the orchestra, and delivering the performance of her life, as you've seen, and then, later in the year, she did the duet of the same song with Helene Fischer, and that was an even stronger performance,
th-cam.com/video/Pb8qmpcOByc/w-d-xo.html
If you want a version of the original with subtitles,
th-cam.com/video/telyzClalVs/w-d-xo.html
At the end, the first time she sang Voila, as she turned to Andre and threw her arms wide, effectively saying without words, 'How was that?', she already had her answer, you see it in the smile after the last note, she knew she had absolutely nailed it, and she's been getting standing ovations every night since, and now, having been with Andre for the following 12 months, she's delivered stunning performances everywhere she's been singing, but she's done so much more, Andre drew that young girl out of her cocoon, and the New Emma that emerged, the strong, vibrant, capable, confident and dynamic young woman that was ready to be launched into orbit as a new singer, she well and truly made her mark that night, and then, exactly as we knew she would, she's spent the year with Andre and the orchestra listening, watching and learning from the cream of the cream, and now, she's putting into practice the new techniques that she's been discovering as she's been able to be gently and wonderfully stretched to deliver more by Andre's encouragement, as she spoke her opening words, so beautifully, so clearly and so well in her third language, the timing, the inflections, the pauses and the emphasis was perfect, before she sang a note, she had that entire audience in the palm of her hand, and then she sets about destroying them with the vocal explosions that she delivered every time she went into higher register with such power and clarity.
th-cam.com/video/Ll1uR_HUOP8/w-d-xo.html
When you watch it several times, you can see it coming, there's the hint of a smile, her lip curls, and a vocal explosion devastates everything within earshot, and that's before she then adds in the key change, and those incredible belting top notes that seem to go on for ever, she has well and truly learned how to get the best out of her voice, her frame and her emotions, and when they're all wrapped together, and surrounded by the wrapper that is the orchestra, they are a devastating package that can do nothing other than captivate and thrill the hearts of everyone that hears it, she truly has arrived on the platform of the highest levels of stardom, if we couldn't see her singing, and could only hear that voice, you'd be hard pressed not to think that she's been singing at a professional level for 20 years or more, and yet here she is singing like this at the still tender age of 16, absolutely and completely stunning and sublime, and yes, Andre has also put his showmans experience into the whole effect, with the dress, and the jewels, Emma is the complete package, and in so many ways, she IS his princess, a real life star, and it's very evident that he is incredibly proud of what she's capable of delivering.
It gets better, she's recently done a concert in Amsterdam that opened up the season of Music award events, and it was the chance for Emma to reprise an event she's going to be appearing at in January, a Disney concert in the Ziggodome in Amsterdam, it was beyond stunning, she showed that if her health issues didn't restrict her so much, she truly could be a Disney princess as well, the absolute command she had of that stage, and the performance, it was a perfect demonstration of just how much she can take the stage in her hands, and make it seems like she's been performing on it for a lifetime, she is so much in control, and able to use it to deliver a performance that would be appropriate to a major film or similar, if the opportunity were to be there for her, once again, she's using everything she's learned with Andre to put together a performance that is has so much pure class and technique to it, and right at the end, as she hits another belting top note, it's so evident that she is absolutely in control, the power of her singing and the emphasis of her arm as she closes out that incredible note, she makes it look so effortless, it's beautiful to see, and I am sure you will enjoy watching yet another top class performance from Emma.
th-cam.com/video/rhALa-baZGA/w-d-xo.html
It's not her first Disney song, over a year ago, in her own home studio, she recorded another Disney film song, from 'The Little Mermaid', the track 'Part of your world',
th-cam.com/video/itxs-aNyRJY/w-d-xo.html
Emma recorded this because it's another aspect of her desperate desire to see change, to move out of her life and into another world, which is what Ariel in the film is also desperate to do, to leave the water and walk on land, a completely different existence, and that very much resonated with Emma, her own circumstances are so restrictive, so regimented, she can never just abandon the pumps that are keeping her alive, but tie her to 22 hours of every day attached to her, the equivalent of a boat anchor on her shoulder where ever she goes, she so desperately wants to be free of them.
There is so much more, but there's no space left to put it in, my close is important, the only thing that can stop Emma now is her health, and that's why I am going to repeat my normal appeal to everyone listening or reading, if at all possible, please make a (regular) donation to Emma's foundation, who are working to find better treatments, or ideally, a cure for the illness that at the moment has no cure, and also can have devastating implications for sufferers, many of whom have taken their own lives as a result of the intense pressure and stress that the discipline of living with gastroparesis imposes on them.
I know from recent social media posts, she still finds the unrelenting daily limitations of tube feeding incredibly hard to cope with at times, despite that she's loving the singing with Andre, which she regards as her therapy.
She posted some heart breaking photos and comments from her holiday in Portugal, having to use her wheelchair after a time swimming, even then, at a time when the family were relaxing and enjoying a break away from their normal lives, Emma had no relief, no escape from the mental and physical pain of having to live with the numbing discipline of the 22 hours every day with the pumps attached to her, her ongoing lack of stamina that hugely limits and impacts on her life and desire to be free, and she never talks about the physical pain that so often is a side effect of the failure of her stomach to properly process the contents, or the indescribable pain of the procedure to replace her feeding tubes, which she endures every 5 months, without anaesthetic, to avoid any risk of damage to her voice.
Her most recent change of stoma and feeding tubes (Her Mickey button) happened only 3 days before the first Vrijthof concert In Maastricht in July, and it went wrong, and took well over an hour compared to the normal 20 to 30 minutes, a video of the rehearsals the next day made it very evident that she was still suffering, she had to wear a winter coat to keep warm, and this procedure has to happen every 5 months.
Emma's foundation can be found at gastrostars.nl
Please, if at all possible, join me in making a (regular) contribution to her foundation, to enable them to help patients like Emma, and research this awful disease that has affected her from birth, and required her to be tied to the pumps and feeding tubes since she was 9 MONTHS old, for 22 hours a day, hopefully, the work of her foundation will find a cure.
Please also be very careful if you post or respond to anything from Emma on social media, her increased visibility has resulted in significant numbers of bad actors creating fake accounts, the ONLY valid web site that supports Emma and others like her is the gastrostars site.
One of the main people in Gastrostars is a surgeon who has a lot of experience in treating gastroparesis, and she is not only a surgeon, but also suffers from the same disease herself, to the extent that as a result of her condition worsening, she's had to leave her role in the hospital, and she is now dedicated to the foundation, and working to help find possible new treatments, or even better the cure that will free people like Emma to live a more normal life, rather than be tied to the feeding pumps for so many hours every day.
It will be so good if the work of Emma's foundation can lead to a better treatment, or even a cure, which will free her to do more singing, and it may be people here who make that possible.

Emma is a 15 year old Dutch girl who has had a paralyzed stomach since she was 9 months old, which means that she cannot eat and that she gets liquid food, she has two bottles with her every day that bring the liquid into her through two cords, she does that 22 hours a day, she sometimes takes a candy in her mouth to let her taste buds work. Emma has a new song with Andre' Rieu the one she released last July you really have to watch it very beautiful th-cam.com/video/Ll1uR_HUOP8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_DCPNRhPuAFGRZMJ
Honestly even I am speechless, for someone who's 11 years younger than me she actually achieved something great, sucks that she has that disease hope it'll pass.
She doesn’t even speak French. She learned this entire French song just to perform it. Incredible.
This year Emma sang an even more powerful song, Dancing on the Stars (in English); you'll love it, an original never sung before. The writer gave it to Emma.
The writer wrote "Dancing on the Stars" before Emma was born, waiting for her.

🤗🍒🌹 well done and listen also to Emma's Hallelujah and Dancing on the stars etcetera ! They all took French lessons to sing this song !!!
Yep dancing on the stars!!!
Truth be told, the majority of the audience didn't speak French either. This concert was performed in the Netherlands, Dutch and German are mostly spoken there. Most of the people were affected as you were, by her passion. You can literally feel her emotions as she sings.
Its always a international audience, they are coming from the whole planet from America to Australia
I appreciate your reaction. Greetings from PARIS 🇫🇷
Thanks for the reaction ❤See her performance on MAX Kerstconcert with Halleluja and Disney in concert on AVROTROS.
Except for people like myself who just happened upon this video on TH-cam, Emma is largely unknown in America. Unfortunately, the US is not on Andre Rieu's touring schedule for this year, so she is likely to remain unknown for the foreseeable future.
She is involved in some kind of collaboration with Disney that will see her performing again with the Disney in Concert show in Jan. 2025 once again in Amsterdam. Still, through Disney, there could be some kind of exposure to American audiences. Other than that, until she releases an album, or actually tours the US, only a relative few of us will know about her.
It must be remembered that she is only 16, and still a schoolgirl. Her music career, in terms of her exposure outside of the Netherlands and Europe is in its nascent stages. When she is finally exposed to American audiences, there is no doubt in my mind that she will be a sensation. After that, an international megastar.
I'm in America, and Emma Kok IS a sensation and Mega Star already! ❤

Check out Emma‘s new song “Dancing on the Stars “. New song specifically for Emma. Released july 2024.
She has been on a world tour with Andre since the first week of January. Back now.
Such a beautiful song. I loved Voila . “Dancing on the Stars“ is as great and will reck you with tears.
Released August few weeks ago Disney in Concert Emma looks like a princess sings like an angel .
Now you know what perfection sounds like, By the way there were 12,500 people at that concert...
Most of the public didn't understand the lyrics either. This is in the Netherlands and French isn't known by most of the Duth People.
Just four notes - that's all she needs to grab you by the heart strings.
Hi Kurtis, sorry for this reversed, two part comment. Somehow YT didn't like the way I wrote my comments. Now I've send you the suggestions first and I will comment on your video here:
I watched your reaction and in it I recognized my own first reaction to Emma. She is very special. Imagine that you're not able to share a meal. One of the most basic social interactions between people. Imagine never being able to keep up because you don't have the stamina. Imagine being bullied for years at school for being small and walking with a stroller for your pumps. Imagine never having any friends at school, always alone. Although she soars and shines on stage, she still suffers mentally and physically. But she doesn't hide that anymore. She shares it on the socials to raise awareness. That's why her foundation Gastrostars is so important. It would be great if you leave a link to her foundation in the description box and make viewers aware of it in other reaction videos on Emma. It means a lot to her and all the other fellow sufferers. Performances like these are exhausting for Emma. She can do a couple of songs but a whole concert will be difficult. She has to be very cautious in distributing her energy throughout the day. Minutes before she comes on stage she disconnects from the feeding pumps, focuses and then does her magic. When she comes backstage she reconnects to her pumps. That's why she feels free on stage. IMHO I think you can hear that when she sings. I hope you like the suggestions, they are really worthwhile. Very intens, full of passion and powerful
Ofcourse You will follow the already recomended songs ... here is an other one ... a duet with April Darby .. during liberation day 5th of may 2024 .. on a floting stage in Amsterdam ..and the audiance also on floating seats and boots , and a lot of people on the side of the canal ..the orchestra on top of an old bridge .. the song ; When You Believe ! ..enjoy
She has the World's attention...

Emma does not speak French, she had a French tutor teach her the song phonetically. Emma chooses songs that she has an emotional connection with. Her condition requires her to be connected to two small pumps 22 hours a day, one tube goes to her stomach and the other to her intestine. Her condition also affects her growth rate, she is much more petite than other 15 year-olds. When she was younger she could not carry the pumps around in school so she used a child-sized walker to hold them. Other children teased her, calling her "gnome" and "grandma". She still gets teased, I believe she stopped going to public school.
VOILA, by Barbara Pravi from France, was written for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 (it placed second). Barbara Pravi is a survivor of domestic abuse, the song is about vulnerability, strength, and self-acceptance, saying "This is me. Here I am. Accept me for what I am, voilà.".
People can be so cruel. I couldn’t imagine teasing someone because of a medical condition. She is a very strong person.

That's all
Voilà, voilà, voilà, that's who I am.
This is me, even when I lie open I'm afraid, yes
This is me in the noise and in the silence
Look at me, or at least what's left of me
Look at me before I hate myself
What shall I tell you that another's lips will not tell you?
It's little, but it's all I have; I put it there.
That's it
Voilà, voilà, voilà, this is who I am
This is me me, even if I lie open, it is finished
This is my face, this is my scream, this is who I am
Voilà, voilà, voilà, it's right here
Me, my dream, my desire, how I go to ruin, how I laugh at it
That's me in the noise and in the silence.
Don't go, I beg you, stay for a long time.
It may not save me, no
But to live without you, I don't know how to do it.
Love me like you love a friend who's going away forever
I want people to love me because I can't like my outline
Voilà, voilà, voilà, this is who I am
This is me, even when I lie open, it's over
This is me in the noise and also in the rage
Look at me, and in the end also my eyes and my hands
All I have is here, it's my face, it's my screaming
This is me me, this is me me
Voilà
Voilà
Voilà, voilà
Voilà
Just FYI, the guy in the blue jacket next to her brother is her father.
