I will never forget the iconic moment where I was sitting right at the front of the first carriage, being yanked by the DC and DF locos, and hearing the roar and grumble from them. Good memories!
I am glad I had the opportunity to ride these trains before they were taken out of service. Actually, I think I rode them too much! It was an experience I won't forget. I do miss the rumble and roar of a good diesel loco on the passenger services.
No more diesel hauled services (except Papakura to Pukekohe). They were replaced in 2014 by new electric trains.
