    When you were outside in chapter 2 it was a little noisy but you were clear and understandable. Just letting you know it wasn't as bad as you thought.

    Good for you. It's very rare that people your age have a plan for the future- let alone a long distance financial plan. I didn't, and it's difficult trying to start one later in life.
    I still think owning a business is the best option- I never have and never would invest in the stock market or anything along those lines.
    For me, my truck is and has always been an asset, I've made over 100K with it and I only have 110K miles on it and its paid off. I could still sell it for 36K used (a 1 ton diesel) but why? Those things come in handy for a variety of reasons.
    I'm going to try OTR for a season, not sure how long that will last though. With my expenses now, I'm aiming as saving 20k my first year- I have 2 residences at least for the rest of this year.
    Enjoy Melton and be careful. There's so much more to flatbed than I ever thought, but it does seem worthwhile and fulfilling in more ways than one. Thanks for the advice and examples.

      Absolutely! Thanks for sharing that, I’ve definitely considered getting my own truck one day, I know there’s a lot of money to be made in the owner/op world. That’s something I will certainly look more into as my career progresses

    Have you ran across any veterans using the apprenticeship/on the job training program Melton offers? Or know anything about it in general? I know you get BAH which is an extra $1600 a month.

    • @ianelbert

      I did 90’s and a 45. You do get unlimited pull ups and looks, in fact it’s encouraged that you GOAL. The instructors will look at you like you’re being safe and smart, which you would be. Don’t be like me and back into the concrete barrier then get yelled at😂 definitely GOAL

    I'm seriously considering going OTR. I got a local job now with a Class B License but with inflation, I'm living paycheck to paycheck. My only other issue is finding a company that will train me. I have my Class A Permit but trying to afford the necessary schooling on your own is nearly impossible.

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear ya it’s definitely a challenge. I don’t know any off the top of my head but there some companies out there that will pay for your class A. You usually just have to agree to work for them for X amount of time after you get it. They might not pay a whole lot more than you get now, but the class A will open a lot of opportunities for you later on.

      @@ianelbert I appreciate it. That's my intention. I'd like to go straight to Flatbed which is why I was looking into Melton because i see Melton trucks around here often. Though Melton doesn't have a training program unfortunately. At least not that covers me. I figured go somewhere for a year and get the knowledge and skills and then decide if I want to stay there or move to another company.

      Yeah, a lot of his more recent stuff isn’t as good and a lot more speculative I’d say. But rich das poor dad is undeniably one of the best personal finance books you can read. If all you ever did was apply the knowledge from that book you’d do just fine in life, financially.
