When I was a child any time I went to my grandparents house I would always pull out the photo albums and they had shelves full of them. As I got older I noticed how much they enjoyed it when I pulled them out. I could see them going to that memory and one of them would always ask, "Honey, do you remember when.....?" They've both been gone for many years now, but every now and then, I pull out the photo albums. I inherited all of them and to me, they're priceless!

Jamey Johnson has an amazing voice and is such a good performer, but the words and the message in this song are at masterpiece level. It is one of the best songs ever written., Music should make the listener feel, and this song evokes emotion in all who hear it, and does every time no matter how many times you hear it.

Thanks for this great reaction. When one of our tv networks released WWII in color with colorized b&w documentary film Suddenly these WWII soldiers looked young and contemporary, just seeing a suntanned sailor on deck. My generation had Vietnam where my husband fought before we met, and those films were in color, though the jungle humidity sometimes muted things like gray.

'You should have seen it in color' is basically saying, 'You would have needed to have lived in that moment to truly understand it.' Any photo only gives a brief glimpse into what happened, but nothing compared to the colorful life happening at the time the photo was made. Yesterday I posted a [colorized] photo of my parents made on their Wedding Day 70 years ago. The color was a nice addition, but most of the responses were about the very short story I wrote about when & how they met. Images & Words together 💞

    • @CindyNavarro
      @CindyNavarro 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

As for the colorization processes, some are outstanding and others don't get the colors right at all. I also have used one from one site that wouldn't always pick up skin tones; it was odd to see some body parts still light gray.

I would recommend a lot of country music if you want music that tells a story. Country does it so well.
Even Though I’m Leaving - Luke Combs
Three Wooden Crosses - Randy Travis
The Devil Went Down to Georgia - The Charlie Daniels Band
The Ride - David Allen Coe
Waiting on a Woman - Brad Paisley
Concrete Angel - Martina McBride (a real tear jerker)
      There are so many.

I haven't heard that song I bet in 15 years. It brought tears to my eyes. I was born in 1964. ALOT of the photos of me and my brothers. My parents wedding pictures. All black and white. My grandfather was in Okinawa in 1967. My mom sent him a photo of my older brother and me. He had portraits painted of us. My brother was 4, I was 3. It's the only picture of me with beautiful blue eyes. I guess to the Asian painter. All Americans have blue eyes. 😊😊

Jamey Johnson is an amazing storyteller, with a very manly sound. Check out him and Alison Krauss (from Whiskey Lullaby) on "Seven Spanish Angels" - a great song from Willie Nelson and Ray Charles. Now it's hard to imagine a life where there's not a camera around to document anything. The WWII scene Jamey sings about is the story of a bomber crew in Europe. For his father to survive that is an amazing feat, bomber crews had very high casualty rates.

I see this as Jamie Johnson's ode to the Great Generation that lived through the depression and saved the World in WWll, You should have seen it in color (also specific to an earlier time period in a black and white photo), is just a moment in time that does not reflect what it was like to be living what was pictured. While the actual saying has its origins in B&W film, as the color, motion, context, temperature, emotions and everything else that makes up reality is mostly missing from a photograph.

What I get from the song is that young folks think they are unique.. that no one else vould feel what they are feeling. Pictures show folks that young folks think had it easier.. But the phrase "should of seen it in color" implies that folks were scared, hot, tired, afraid too.

Hi, Saeed 😊. As someone else mentioned, seeing it in color, basically means looking at the pictures is not the same as actually living it. But I love when you reminisce about your grandparents. It's nice to reminisce and listen to their stories paints a picture of how it must have been. But to truly understand it, you would've had to live it. Thank you for reacting to this one. The country genre truly has great storytelling. Much love to you and your family ❤.

Great reaction! I don't think Jamey can do a bad song. I love In Color but I have other favorites you might want to check out. One being The High Cost of Living that is about a soldier returning home and the demons that haunt him and how he deals with them. Jamey was a Marine so I'm pretty sure this was very personal for him. Another one is Mowing Down the Roses...about his divorce. I probably found it funnier than I should have, but it's a good one too

It does help if you have backup information either from the family or the person in the picture especially when it comes to close colors like red/orange or blue/green/gray

In the first verse, he referenced The Great Depression.
I'm not the impact that was felt in your Country.
It was a worldwide Depression that shook the economy to its core.
Banks in the US had invested people's money to the degree that when they wanted to withdraw the money they couldn't.
The stock market crashed and banks collapsed.
Now there are laws preventing Banks from investing the money the same way and a federal insurance backing each account.
The Great Dust Bowl also crippled agriculture.
Farmers unknowingly massively depleted the nutrients in the soil by planting the same crops on the same acres for generations.
Then a historic drought happened and a huge part of the country's fields literally turned to a fine dust that killed crops and some livestock.
It's one of the reasons that although America had already been giving the Allies supplies and weapons they were so reluctant to join the war with troops.
If you like History I highly recommend The Fat Electrician channel.
    He's a fantastic story teller.
You could start with Virginia Hall the deadliest spy of WWII.

I love your content. I saw in another video that you have written but possibly not in English? Do you have any of your work in English (published or unpublished)?

      Thanks for your interest!
All my work is currently in Dutch. I do have a first draft of my first book in English, but it still needs a lot of work and a professional copy editor to get it on point.

@@SaeedReacts. I have a bit of a crazy back story as to why I ended up watching reaction videos. I've enjoyed yours because of your insight. Words are so important. Writing has saved my life a few times. Just from a few videos, I know I would love to read your work and/ or happily read subtitles on a film you write and produce one day. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with the world.

You actually missed the meaning. It means you should have been there. To see it in color in those days pics were all black and white. You had to be there to see it in color.

If you like storytelling songs I recommend Eric Church, especially Lightning or Knives of New Orleans.

I understand the sentiment of this song but I've never enjoyed listening to it.
