  • Mr Burge continues his journey on the Greyhound to Ellesmere Port. Stopping in Rugeley over night, I catch up with him at Little Haywood, and follow him up to Wedgwood's.

    Well I have to admit I enjoyed watching that and nice to see that lock-gates and paddles were treated with more respect this time around.

    I just love the engine at idle! It's one of the coolest sounding engines I've ever heard. Enjoy your video!

    It was absolutely worth waiting for the kids to be distracted long enough to enjoy this! If you have any more Mike it would do my sanity the world of good. I always enjoy your content and your editing only gets better and better.

    A very enjoyable total hour of armchair boating, which is the best I can do at the moment, sad to say. Hope to meet up later on the cut Mike.

    Hi Mike I must say that you do select and film some very interesting items of canal life, but where is Victoria we havn't seen her for a few months now. Thanks again.

    What a day, all the way from the swan at fradley to at least Grantham lock I suspect they went on to the hardcastle tunnel, that is some day of boating and with an engine that doesn't reverse. Respect.

    Not so grumpy in this part the reason could well be the lack of tea. Well worth watching.

    I’d have a pounding headache if I steered that with the exhaust banging away all day. No wonder they don’t look as if they’re enjoying it

      Yes. Initially it has a certain appeal but all day? Not so much. Breathing those fumes is probably worse. Yes, a headache machine.

    Sounds like that old bollinger needs a bit of TLC.

  • @liquidhighway

    At 1.50 is he purposely allowing that rope to slip, it seems as if he is trying to hold the friction, a couple of round turns to take the weight would stop all that rope burn and easily feed it out as need be. I have to say im pretty impressed with the lady onboard, she keeps quiet but is a real grafter and keeps the boat tidy too.

    • @mykaskin
      @mykaskin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, he's letting it slip but slowing the boat down gently while letting it forwards to the next bollard. The line is only thin so you don't want to snap or over heat it.

    • @liquidhighway
      @liquidhighway 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mykaskin in later clips he uses the few round turns technique and it takes the weight better whilst still slowly feeding it out

    What does the ring on top of the exhaust stack do?

    • @stevenbates1128
      @stevenbates1128 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ring on top of exhaust stack is called a cutter it defects the engine exhaust when passing under bridges or tunnels without it you would have a cabin top full of soot and brick dust.

    What is the reason for this cold damp journey to what I imagine is ellesmere port

    5:55 LOL. When you boat has a sense of humor... Some call it character.

    Not an expert but not at all sure that engine should be cutting out quite as often especially when just running in one direction . Like I said not an expert so probably talking absolute b######s.
