Mounding (Why Not To)

The ill-advised method of mounding used to install pipe is shown. The pipe is supported on each end on a mound of soil. This is done to place the pipe at a certain elevation. Since it is practically impossible to compact beneath the pipe, a loose zone between the mounds results. The mounds may end up as hard spots creating point loading on the pipe.
