    Bosch invented the sds system that is now the industry standard that all hammer drills use. Thank goodness Bosch. Thankyou very much

    Thank you for explaining the numbering system in front of drill name. I've been trying to figure that out for awhile but nothing simply explained it the way you did.

    Excellent video. I use a Bosch Blue Cordless hammer drill. The angled chisel bits never cease to amaze various trades who have borrowed it.
    This drill has had a hard life, and not missed a beat. I get the best quality bits and been surprised at how well they stay sharp.
    I find a smaller pilot hole sometimes helps.

    Thanks for this video. Very well explained. Especially regarding what the number means on an SDS drill. Always wondered about that and it's held me back from buying a hammer drill. Thanks again very informative.

    Kango brand SDS drills are a good brand. Festool have an “Dust Removal Nozzle for Drilling” which attaches to to hose of the Festool dust extractor. I think it would work with any brand of drill or dust extractor. I will get it for my next project. I have the Festool CT26,with the cyclone, it works well.

    The Makita is a hammer drill. The Bosch is a rotary hammer. It is formost a percussive tool as opposed to a drill.

    I have a general question about the difference between hammer drills and rotary hammer drills. I think that hammer drills have 3 modes: rotary only, hammer only, rotary & hammer. Rotary hammer drills have two modes: hammer only, rotary & hammer. Aside from the drill bit technology, is this an accurate summary of the operating modes?

    • @WagnerMetersMain
      @WagnerMetersMain  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gary:
      Thanks for the comment and questions. Yes, the operating modes for a standard hammer drill would typically be normal drilling and hammer drilling where a rotary hammer drill typically has normal drill, hammer drill, and hammer only.

      Rotary hammer is a percussion drill -- it hits harder and is much better for getting through hard concrete. Many of them have 3 modes, one being percussion only.

    Hi there. Thanks for the great video. I was wondering if regular hex drill bits will work in an SDS Max rotary hammer like the Bosch? Or do only SDS max bits work in that drill?

    • @WagnerMetersMain
      @WagnerMetersMain  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe:
      Thanks for the question. The SDS plus, which is what the Bosch Bulldog accepts, isn’t interchangeable with SDS Max drills. The grooving is different and the Max is meant for heavier duty applications.

      @@WagnerMetersMain , SDS Max is a much larger dia shank than standard SDS or SDS+ and so would definitely not fit (At leas mine is!) :)

      Hex drill bits are a different Design than SDS bits.

    I have a Milwaukee Standard hammer drill. Would it accept SDS plus drill bits or only the hex masonry drill bits?

    • @WagnerMetersMain
      @WagnerMetersMain  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will more than likely “accept” the bit, but it will not work as design or intended. The standard drill has a three jaw chuck where as the SDS has slotting that keeps it from slipping during the drilling process. The drill specs are also different.

    Hi... I have a hammer drill, but not sds Chuck max 10 mm bit. The hammering produced is not enough to drill hole in concrete. Can I increase the hammering effect so that I can use the same machine or do I need to buy a sds hammering drill?. Kindly share your thoughts and ideas/tweeks. Can I convert my machine to sds chuck

    • @WagnerMetersMain

      Sridhar:
      Your best bet is to just buy an SDS drill. It will perform better and last much longer.
      Thanks,
      Jason

      I second the suggestion. I used to use hammer drills but I now use a rotary hammer. It's a night and day difference. In Singapore almost everything is reinforced concrete prefabs. Add 10 years to those and they are nigh impossible to drill with a hammer drill. Buy once, cry once. Even an 18v rotary hammer will be a better than a corded hammer drill.

      An SDS hammer drill is the desired type of drill to use for concrete. Much like this: www.boschtools.com/us/en/boschtools-ocs/sds-plus-hammers-11255vsr-27668-p/

    Can I able to use a normal hammer drill bit (the round one) in an SDS plus drill?

    • @WagnerMetersMain
      @WagnerMetersMain  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nikesh:
      Thanks for the comment. No, a round drill bit will not work in an SDS drill. An SDS drill utilizes a square shank to ensure it can drill in the concrete without slipping.

    So sill these drill bits work on a regular hammer drill ?

      They do make an SDS adapter chuck for standard hammer drills.

      I have to humbly apologize and say that I must have not been thinking clearly when I first replied. The adapters would be for the other way, as you probably saw, SDS to three jaw chuck. Sorry for the confusion.

      @lua ne yioue A nice explanation from a Toolstop vid is "It’s likely, though, that SDS as a term comes from the German phrase “Steck-Dreh-Sitz”, which literally means Insert-Twist-Stay. And that’s because the technology was originally developed by the German power tool giant Bosch back in the 70s."
