I haven't had a car for 10+ years now, but when I did I spent 6 years upgrading every element of the stereo constantly. After the fronts and rears got as good as I could make them, I changed the sub several times until I got a JL Audio W7 and absolutely fell in love with the sound of it. Yes, it was loud as hell, but it was so clear and smooth - and hit when you wanted it to. I ended up buying I have 2 x JL Audio Fathom 12's for use outside the car! But, I have them in my music studio rather than for hi-fi or movie viewing. Totally flat response down to 18hz-ish. Low end is a notoriously difficult area of to mix when producing music. But these subs have been amazing for working with audio since I bought them 12 years back.
