    Today the LEGO Group unveils the LEGO® Ideas JAWS set, a brick-built diorama commemorating the infamous 1975 blockbuster movie “JAWS,” from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment. To celebrate the launch, the LEGO Group, in partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, has created the first ever summer “brick-buster” mini-film, “JAWS…in a Jiffy,” a playful recreation of this iconic summer blockbuster movie - told in just 90-secs. The film features all the favorite scenes, plus a surprise minifigure reveal at the end, featuring award-winning director Stephen Spielberg behind the clapperboard. Fans can watch the film here.
    The LEGO Ideas JAWS set is a meticulously designed recreation of one of the most famous scenes from the movie, allowing fans to relive the suspense and excitement of Spielberg's masterpiece in brick form. Originally conceived by LEGO fan Johnny Campbell, via the LEGO Ideas community platform, the 1497-piece set captures key elements and characters from the film in LEGO minifigure form - including Police Chief Martin Brody, marine biologist Matt Hooper and sailor Sam Quint. The set also features the iconic Orca boat, with a detailed cabin with a removable roof, an adjustable boom and rigging, plus lots of recognisable accessories, such as a revolver, compass, fishing rod, harpoon, spear, and the yellow barrels that were pivotal to the movie plot.
    The set can either be placed on a brick-built seawater base with the JAWS LEGO shark model attacking the Orca boat. Also attached is a printed tile with Chief Brody’s famous line (“You’re gonna need a bigger boat”) to the base to complete this nostalgic and playful centerpiece. Alternatively, the Shark can be displayed separately from the boat, on its own stand.

    I think an E.T. set is almost a guarantee at this point. They already have the figure and one of the most iconic shots in cinema to make a diorama of, so it’s only a matter of time. Close Encounters of the Third Kind definitely has potential too, and it’s in the same era of Spielberg’s more family friendly classics. I think you could make an incredible set out of Minority Report, but that film isn’t quite as popular as the other Spielberg films that have gotten Lego sets based on them. Catch Me If You Can is one of Spielberg’s best movies of the 21st century, and I’d love minifigures, but I don’t know what you’d really make a set out of from that. Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story has incredible set pieces that could make great dioramas, but the subject matter of racism and gang war might be too violent, and if they were to do West Side Story, they’d probably go for nostalgia and do the 60’s film. And it goes without saying that The Color Purple, Saving Private Ryan, and especially Schindler’s List are never getting Lego sets. They’re some of his best films, especially the latter two, but I think you’re more likely to see a dog elected president than Lego officially releasing a concentration camp set. And the museum exhibit doesn’t count, that was a fan build that they accidentally endorsed in the 90’s.

    Loved this video! Honestly probably the best review we’re going to get of the _Jaws_ set - it looks like the kind of set where a more typical review is redundant, because we can see all we need to know about the build, display value, etc., just by looking at a couple good photos.
    But this was really informative and interesting. I knew about all of those sets, but not about some of Spielberg’s involvements in movies that don’t have his name on them. And even for the obvious ones I’d never realized just how much of TLG’s licensed sets tie back to Spielberg. Really interesting perspective.

    Steven Brickberg or Steven Spielbrick?

    • @natbarmore
      @natbarmore หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well, “Spielberg” is German, meaning “play mountain”. In German they typically refer to “Lego steine”, which is literally “Lego stones”, rather than “Lego bricks”. Mountains are made of stone. So I think there’s already a solid connection between “play mountain” and “Lego stones”, without needing to change his name. 😉
